How Does a Muslim Respond to Wrong Doing?

The answer to this important question is found in the Hadith of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Prophet Muhmmad (peace be upon him) said: One who sees wrong doing should change it with his hand. If one cannot, then one should speak against it. If one cannot do that either, then one should reject it in one's mind. And that is the weakest of faith.

Iran
The United States is continuing to bomb Iran. Iranian civilians are being killed. As of today, there were fifty shuhada.
Iran is countering by hitting US military bases in Arab countries. Today an Iranian strike in Jordan killed two US troops. One more US serviceman was reported missing.
All of this raises the question: Why are US military bases in Arab countries?
Azad Kashmir
More violence and killings continue in Azad Kashmir. (Azad Kashmir is the portion of Kashmir administered by the Pakistani government.) A mass movement has arisen to counter the repression. Pakistan's regime has taken steps to crush that movement, known as the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC). Numerous protestors have been killed and wounded in the Rawalakot area. Security forces have also come under fire from the protestors.

Maulana Fazlur Rahman Challenges Military Regime
On July 20, the top Islamic leader of Pakistan Fazlur Rahman spoke at length about the military's gross failures and attempts to hide facts from the Pakistani people. He enumerated military humiliation particularly in the Kargil battle. It is a fake regime in Pakistan, as he highlighted. He insisted that the military is not doing its job. He counted the military's failures, in great detail.
He said the military is treated as suspect even by the police. The generals are using martyrs to glorify themselves. He rebutted propaganda against him.
Yemen
July 23 – The Houthis have been blocking ships to Saudi Arabia. Two tankers were attacked, as they were going to the Kingdom. Reports indicate that they caught fire.

Calls to Arrest Israeli Terrorist Netanyahu
New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani wants to arrest Netanyahu under international law, but the terrorist is protected by President Trump.
Meanwhile, activists in Maryland are putting pressure on Maryland Governor Wes Moore to arrest Netanyahu when he next visits the Maryland-DC area. Moore has publicly decried Netanyahu's treatment of the Palestinians as a genocide.

New Hamas Leader
Khalil Al-Hayya has been elected as the new leader of Hamas. He has promised the unity and re-emergence of resistance. Israel has repeatedly tried to kill him, and has killed his children.
When the Ummah Suffers, We Suffer Too

There is a misconception that when someone goes to prison, they somehow stop caring about the world. People imagine that because we live behind concrete walls and razor wire, we become disconnected from humanity. They assume our concerns begin and end with prison life.
Nothing could be further from the truth.
Every day, from morning until night, I watch CNN. I pay close attention to reports from Iran, the Strait of Hormuz, Palestine, the Gaza Strip, and other parts of the Muslim world. While many people change the channel after a few minutes, I continue watching because I want to understand what my brothers and sisters are enduring. Their struggles matter to me.
When I see images of families fleeing violence, children searching through the rubble of destroyed neighborhoods, hospitals overwhelmed with the wounded, or communities living with fear and uncertainty, I do not see distant strangers. I see fellow human beings. As a Muslim, I also see members of my Ummah.
There is something unique about being incarcerated while witnessing these events. We cannot travel. We cannot volunteer. We cannot send immediate relief with our own hands. We cannot stand shoulder to shoulder with those who are suffering. That feeling of helplessness can weigh heavily on the heart.
Yet prison has taught me something important: Compassion does not require freedom of movement.
Islam teaches that the believers are like one body. When one part of the body suffers, the whole body responds with pain and concern. Those words are not symbolic to me. They become real every time I watch another report of conflict, displacement, or loss. My heart responds even though my body cannot.
Many incarcerated Muslims experience this same connection. We gather around the television when major events unfold. We talk quietly among ourselves about what we have seen. We wonder about the safety of innocent families. We ask questions. We make du'a together. In those moments, the prison walls disappear, and our hearts are joined with Muslims across the world.
The news often tells us about military movements, governments, and political decisions. Those stories are important, but I find myself thinking about the ordinary people whose names will never appear in a headline—the father trying to protect his children, the mother comforting her family, the elderly man praying for peace, the young student whose dreams have been interrupted by war. They are the faces I remember.
Watching these reports has also reminded me that hardship is experienced in many forms. While our trials are different, suffering has a way of creating empathy. It teaches us not to become consumed by ourselves but to remain mindful of others.
From inside these walls, I cannot rebuild a home that has been destroyed or comfort a grieving family in person. But I can make sincere du'a. I can ask Allah to protect the innocent, grant patience to those who are tested, heal the wounded, have mercy on those who have died, and guide humanity toward justice, wisdom, and peace.
Some people may believe that prison separates us from the world. In reality, it often causes us to watch the world more closely. It gives us time to reflect, to pray, and to recognize that every life has value, regardless of nationality or circumstance.
The bars around us may limit our movement, but they cannot imprison our compassion. They cannot silence our prayers. They cannot erase our concern for our brothers and sisters around the world.
When the Ummah suffers, we suffer too.
And until the day Allah brings peace to those living through fear and conflict, our prayers will continue to rise from places that many people have forgotten—including prison cells.

Update on the Case of Yaakub Ira Vijandre: Immigration Judge's Ruling is an Assault on the First Amendment
Outspoken Filipino pro-Palestine activist Yaakub Ira Vijandre continues to be held in ICE detention despite having committed no crime. The Dallas area-based activist who regularly and effectively photographed and amplified Palestinian voices through social media, was seized outside his home on October 7, 2025 by a swarm of ICE agents who surrounded him.

According to a post on X (formerly Twitter) by his attorney Eric Lee, "DACA recipient Yaakub Vijandre has been in ICE detention for nine months because of pro-Palestine social media posts & posts opposing US torture of prisoners.
"An Immigration Judge ruled that nothing he says can be believed because of his politics.
"An actual quote from the decision: 'The respondent's worldview is informed by extremist ideology to such an extent that he no longer has the ability to provide reliable or credible factual statements. The record demonstrates that the respondent is so heavily influenced by fringe online elements with whom he interacts that he no longer has meaningful grasp of truth about terrorism and terrorists.'"

Again, this case raises serious constitutional concerns regarding federal overreach and viewpoint discrimination, based on social media posts expressing personal and political views. Reminder, Immigration Judge Blake Daughty ruled that nothing he says can be believed because of his politics.
Direct quote from the decision:
"The respondent's worldview is informed by extremist ideology to such an extent that he no longer has the ability to provide reliable or credible factual statements... he no longer has meaningful grasp of truth about terrorism and terrorists."
This raises extremely important First Amendment concerns—regardless of one's political views, for everyone.

Netanyahu's Hypocrisy Exposed
Even after New York City Mayor Mamdani admitted that his administration did not have the authority to arrest genocidal Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu for war crimes, Netanyahu took the opportunity to criticize him.
In an effort to deflect from his genocide against Palestinians, Netanyahu accused Mayor Zohran Mamdani of spreading hatred among New Yokers.
Netanyahu said that Mayor Mamdani, who is New York City's first Muslim mayor, is supposed to represent Jews, Christians, and Muslims but by calling Netanyahu a war criminal Mamdani was trying to turn one group against the other.
Netanyahu also claimed that "Jews feel very uncomfortable" in New York City. Mayor Mamdani said in a video: "I want to be equally clear, Benjamin Netanyahu is not welcome in New York City, nor is any other war criminal at large."

Hate Crime on Upper West Side
On July 23rd, an Asian man was stabbed on the Upper West Side (UWS). Moments later the same perpetrator stabbed a Jewish man. The Asian victim was stabbed with a knife and the Jewish man was stabbed with a screw driver. The incidents occured a few blocks apart.
The alleged perpetrator is Raul Morales, 51 years old, who witnesses said yelled, "Allahu Akbar" During the stabbings. Morales has been charged with a Hate Crime, which carries stiffer prison sentences.
Morales is being held without bail.
It took a few days for the Hate Crime charges to be brought against Morales. There has been no mention of any psychological evaluation.
