One of Mayor Mamdani's campaign promises was to issue an arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu for his war crimes in Occupied Palestine.
President Trump has stated that no federal warrant would be issued against Netanyahu, who plans to visit the United Nations in September. As a result of the lack of support, Mamdani has dropped his campaign promise. Mayor Mamdani acknowledged that his administration did not have the independent legal authority to issue such a warrant. His campaign promise was a far reach. I had my doubts about his ability to arrest Benjamin Netanyahu in a Zionist country such as America.
America is not even a part of the entity holding the arrest warrant against genocidal leader Netanyahu. Mamdani said, "I call on the federal government to join the International Criminal Court and execute this warrant, as well as any warrant that the International Criminal Court holds."
Mayor Mamdani has not encouraged New Yorkers to protest Netanyahu's visit, saying that it is a personal choice. "Protest is something that we will always respect. I leave it to New Yorkers to make that decision," he said.
Mayor Mamdani also stated that he could describe the events of October 7th, which is when Hamas resorted to kidnapping Zionists, as a war crime, but that Benjamin Netanyahu's orchestration of Palestinian genocide makes him a war criminal, as well.
Legionnaire's Disease May Be on Decline
There were over 80 Legionnaire's Disease cases on the Upper East Side (UES), with 11 hospitalized. Unfortunately, beginning last week, 5 of those hospitalized with Legionnaires' Disease have passed away.
Mayor Zohran Mamdani has drawn the ire of City Council Speaker Julie Menin, who has accused him of not being transparent and acting quickly during this outbreak. She said, "Tighten up the rules to get better communication, to have more proactive testing, to not wait until those test results come back."
Mayor Mamdani responded by saying that his focus is on public health, not politics.
As of Tuesday, July 21st, thirty-four cooling towers at 33 buildings tested positive for Legionella bacteria, according to the City Health Department. The mayor said, "We believe that we have now eliminated the source of the initial cluster. There has been no one with new symptoms reported in more than 10 days and no new diagnosis in a week."
City Health Commissioner Dr. Alistar Martin stated that the decrease in Legionella detection over time is because enforcement is working.
By the end of this administration, Mayor Mamdani's hair may be grayer than before he took office, the same way former President Clinton's went from gray to stark white at the end of his presidency. Mamdani is proactive and seems to be popular with the working class, but his enemies will not rest.
