On June 30th, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and City Council Speaker Julie Menin celebrated the finalization of the city's $125.8 billion budget for fiscal year 2027. In this massive budget, $40 million was set aside to create a portal for post-9/11 air quality and health risk documents. The portal is a city council-mandated inquiry, sponsored by Councilmember Gale Brewer, into documents maintained by city agencies post-911.
The Department of Investigation (DOI) is one of the beneficiaries of the $40 million budget. Last year, DOI began investigating the Department of Environmental Protection but discontinued due to a lack of funding. This new budget should remedy this issue.
The issue is that health advocates wanting access to these post-9/11 documents are being prevented from getting access via the courts. City Council Speaker Julie Menin said, "Thousands of families, including my own, deserve answers about the City's knowledge of the environmental toxins that sickened and killed our loved ones following 9/11." Many people believe that the city sent people back to work in the Ground Zero area while the air there was still contaminated.
A new online portal, which was proposed by Corporation Counsel Steve Banks, will make documents released by the administration accessible to the general public. Mayor Mamdani said, "For too long, New Yorkers who have become sick have had to fight for information that should have been theirs from the very beginning. We will provide the transparency that New Yorkers living with post-9/11 health concerns deserve."
Despite Mayor Mamdani's statement, his administration has sought to delay access to these same post-9/11 documents by 9/11 health advocates for survivors and first-responders suffering from illnesses. 9/11 Health Watch is an advocacy group that has sought access to post-9/11 documents via the Freedom of Information Law Request (FOIL). The city is seeking to get 9/11 Health Watch's court case dismissed. The 9/11 Health Watch filed in court to get a response from the city, which the city had delayed in response to a 2023 FOIL request.
"The City has committed to reviewing millions of documents and releasing information to the public to provide answers that have been lingering for nearly 25 years, but that cannot happen overnight," Sam Raskin, a spokesperson for City Hall, said in a statement.
While Ben Chavat, executive director of 9/11 Health Watch, had praise for Council Speaker Menin and the City Council, as a whole, he said he had misgivings about Mayor Mamdani's intention as a result of the city's efforts to get their case dismissed. However, Chevat remains hopeful.

"... Never will I suffer to be lost the work of any of of you, be he male or female, you are members one of another."
{Source~ Qur`an ~ Surah Al Imran 3 ~ A #195}
Abu Sa`id Al-Khudri (May Allah be pleased with him) said...
Prophet ~ (Peace Be Upon Him) said---
'The dwellers of 'Jannah' will look at
those in the upper abodes above them as
you look at a shining star which remains
in the eastern or western horizon...
such will be the difference in superiority
which some of them have over others.''
PROPHET ~ (Peace Be Upon Him) was asked...
' Will those be the dwellings of the Prophets
which no one else will be able to reach' ?
Prophet ~ (Peace Be Upon Him) replied...
'Yes, but by Him in whose hand my soul is men
who believed in Allah and acknowledged the
truthfulness of the Messengers will reach them'.

A Little Note:
In 'Jannah', people will have different grades according to the
strength of their Belief and love of Allah Azzawajal (عز وجل)
Some people will be on a position near that of the Prophets.
May Allah [Azzawajal] grant us such lofty places.

As-Salamo Alaikum wa Rahmat Ullahe wa Barakatohu sister Yasmin,
Really once again while reading this mail I felt much moisture in my eyes.
Jazak Allah o Khairan Kaseeran sister Yasmin
for sharing once again such a touching and beneficial mail.
May Allah accept this holy job from you
and reward you the best for both the Worlds.
May Allah Kareem shower HIS countless blessings and His Mercy on our beloved Parents and forgive them on that Big Day with His Mercy allowing us all together to enter into the Jannat al Firdous.
Because.. Parents are the most precious and valuable gift given by God.
They are our first teachers and guides in life.
They take care of us from the moment we are born and protect us from harm.
Both our mother and father work hard to give us a comfortable and happy life.
They teach us good manners, honesty, and strong moral values.
Parents always support our dreams and encourage us to work hard.
They correct our mistakes with love to help us become better individuals.
They are our biggest cheerleaders, celebrating all our small and big victories.
They give us the strength to face the future and overcome life's struggles.
We can never be truly successful without their blessings and support.

The Recognition and respect of Parents is mentioned
in the Quran {11} eleven times !
In Surah Al- Isra' (Children of Israel) there is a very beautiful description
of how Parents are to be treated.
Allah {Azzawajal} says...
' Your Lord had decreed, that you worship none save Him,
and (that you show) kindness to Parents.
If one of them or both of them attain old age with you,
say not 'Fie' unto them nor repulse them,
but speak unto them a gracious word.
And lower unto them the wing of submission through
mercy, and say....
'My Lord, have mercy on them both,
as they did care for me when I was young.'

*The Wooden Bowl *
A frail old man went to live with his son,
daughter-in-law, and his four year old grandson.
The old man's hands trembled, his eyesight was blurred,
and his step faltered.
The family ate together at the table.
But the elderly grandfather's
shaky hands and failing sight made eating difficult...!
Peas rolled off his spoon onto the floor.
When he grasped the glass, milk spilled on the tablecloth.
The son and daughter-in-law became
irritated with the mess.
'We must do something about father,'
.... said the son.
'I've had enough of his spilled milk, noisy eating,
and his dropping food on the floor.'
So the husband and wife set a small table in the corner .
There, Grandfather ate alone while the rest of the
family enjoyed dinner.
since Grandfather had broken a dish or two,
his food was served in a wooden bowl.
When the family glanced in Grandfather's direction, sometimes
he had a tear in his eye as he sat alone.
still, the only words the couple had for him were sharp admonitions
when he dropped a fork or spilled food.
The four-year-old watched it all in silence...{!}
One evening before supper, the father noticed his son playing with wood scraps on the floor.
so he asked the child sweetly...
' What are you making'...?
Just as sweetly, the boy responded....
'Oh, I am making a little bowl for you and Mama to eat
your food in when I grow up' {!}
The four year old smiled and went back to work.
The words struck the parents so that they were speechless...!
Then tears started to stream down their cheeks...
Though no word was spoken,
They both knew what must be done...
That evening the husband took Grandfather's
hand and gently led him back to the family table.
for the remainder of his days
he ate every meal with the family.
and for some reason, neither husband nor wife seemed
to care any longer when a fork was dropped,
the milk spilled, or the tablecloth soiled.
Grandpa's Wooden Bowl.
