Tunnel to Towers is a nationwide event that pays tribute to firefighter Stephen Siller by retracing the route he ran through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel toward Ground Zero on September 11, 2001. He passed away after the South Tower of the World Trade Center collapsed while he was rescuing civilians. Every year, people run this route, which raises money for the families of September 11th first responders and military veterans.
There is a huge beam found in Ground Zero rubble, and now the Tunnel to Towers Foundation is sponsoring its nationwide tour - The Steel Across America Tour. The intention is to tell the story of the events of September 11, 2001, when planes were hijacked by Muslims and flown into the World Trade Center area in New York City, Pennsylvania, and the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. This year will mark 25 years since the events of September 11, 2001, occurred. Current foreign policy indicates that neither the federal government nor the people are any wiser about reaping what one has sown.
Many Muslims and other conscious folks believe that American foreign policy precipitated the events of September 11, 2001, such as Secretary of State Madeline Albright's cavalier attitude about her Iraqi sanctions, which led to over half a million Muslim children's deaths. But the Tunnel to Towers Foundation's goal is to make this 9/11 beam a symbol of aggression towards America. As usual, America has no intention of acknowledging any wrongdoing it has done anywhere in America or overseas.
America, like other Western nations, is responsible for committing genocide and robbing black and brown countries of their resources. America's relationship with black and brown "leaders" is no different than the authoritarian rule these people were subjected to under European colonial rule.
The events of 9/11 were scary and unsettling. Seeing the towers implode, knowing there were people inside, has haunted me ever since that day. But my logic tells me to ask why such a thing occurs. What was the goal?
The goal of this 9/11 steel beam tour is to continue to miseducate people about American history and to vilify Muslims. America only knows its pain, which is why it views itself as a victim when its true victims retaliate.
