Libya is one of the most important countries in the Arab world.
I had the occasion today [May 8] to attend a conference [by
zoom] of the Libyan-American alliance led by Dr. Esam
Omeish, a distinguished surgeon from Alexandria,
Virginia.
The Libyan American Alliance launched its 2021 Annual Report
and carried on insightful conversation on key issues
affecting Libya. It discussed the Libya Stabilization Act,
and the case against Khalifa Haftar who is due for
deposition on May 9, 2022.
I was enthused by the recitation of the Qur'an which started
the meeting. It was inspiring and focused on AMR bil MARUF
and NAHI un il MUNKAR.
It is amazing that an American citizen, Khalifa Haftar, has
been allegedly involved in serious crimes against the Libyan
people and the Libyans in USA are trying to bring him to
court.
The alliance is rallying Libyan Americans and is focusing
not only on Haftar but also on the misdeeds of the Russian
military Wagner group. Also involved is the UAE.
The speakers emphasized that the Libyan-American alliance is
not connected financially or in any other way to any country
or any group.
They use attorneys and PR persons to reach out to important
and influential Americans in Washington.

At least 11 members of the Egyptian military, including an
officer, have been killed in an armed attack on the Sinai
Peninsula, an army spokesman has said, adding that the
security forces "foiled a terrorist attack" on a
water-lifting station east of the Suez Canal.
Five security personnel were also injured in the attack.

Al-Raqqa province. SDF and US helicopters captured an ISIS
commander and two of his men.
Jabal al-Akrad, Latakia province. Heavy machine gun fire
exchanged between Assad militia and jihad groups,
In al-Hawl refugee camp, 8 women were arrested by security
forces for cooperating with ISIS.
ISIS supporters opened fire in the camp seriously injuring
two people.
Syrian ruler Bashar Assad visited Tehran's leader Ali
Khamenei and Iranian President Raisi. Both expressed
complete support for each other.
In the areas held b y the Assad regime, armed robberies and
murders are widespread. SOHR reports that there have been 49
murders in the last three months including 14 children.
In Hama province, Assad forces used a missile to kill 6
members of an opposition militia,
Near Damascus, Afghan militia supporting Iran fought each
other, killing 7 including a child.
In Homs countryside, an intelligence person working for
Assad was shot dead.
Turkish artillery and Syrians supporting Turkey hit Kurdish
communist positions north of Aleppo.

End of Ramadan Pakistan Style.
I went for the last fast breaking [iftar] to a halal
restaurant in Hanover, Maryland.
I have not seen so many upper-class Pakistanis in quite a
while. They were dressed up, men, women and children.
The food was delicious beyond all limits, mostly buffet but
also a la carte if you so wished.
The Islamic touch was there. Adhan when the fast ended,
prayers outside next to the street, in series because there
were so many people.
Unfortunately some of the people were not fasting and
started eating before the fast ended.
The women did not pray. And no people of color, almost, were
there.
When will Pakistanis learn to mingle with other races? That
is the best da'wah.

At Masjid Malcolm Shabazz, the Imam revealed, during the Eid
khutba (5/2/22), that there were Imams claiming to have seen
the hilal in New York City when he knew they could not have
because it was cloudy and rainy in New York City.
He also stated that sighting the moon is according to the
Sunnah and lamented the fact that egos have driven clerics
to create these hilal committees where the beginning and
ending of Ramadan are when they decide.
It is a WDM mosque and the Imam stated that WD stated that
Imams are running the hilal like a priesthood and that there
is no priesthood in Islam.

Chaos
In Abingdon, Maryland, the Eid prayer gathering was in a
ball room with chandeliers.
It was a large crowd including many women at the back.
Just about all the Muslim nationalities from overseas were
there. Diversity was very
much there. Several countries of Africa were represented as
well as many from India, Arab countries and Pakistan.
The imam is well known for his support of the government.
The organizer of the prayer gathering Is also staunch
supporter of the government, or more correctly, the
Republican party.
The organizer from India gave a long speech, as if he was
giving the khutba. He was listing the great achievements of
his masjid.
After the prayer, the imam gave the Eid khutba. Most people
were talking to each other. Many were looking at their cell
phones. It was impossible to hear the khutba.
He tried to be as loud as he could but with the .large crowd
chattering, it was impossible.
After the khutba, people embraced each other and started
eating cake slices,
etc.
A dramatic message & Reminder about Sis. Aafia
At MCC, a beautiful mosque in Silver Spring, a woman with a
bold placard was standing next to the gate. The placard
urged the release of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui.
The woman was also calling on a loud hailer, wishing Eid
Mubarak, urging people to notice the placard.
The woman was the famous activist Nadrat Siddique.
As the late model cars swept into the masjid, people in the
cars started noticing the placard and started blowing their
horns in support.
It was a very unusual call for freedom for Aafia.
A brother caught the entire scenario on video and now it is
on face book.

Palestinian Foreign Ministry condemns Israeli PM's statements on al-Aqsa Mosque
RAMALLAH, Sunday, May 08, 2022 (WAFA) - The Ministry of
Foreign Affairs and Expatriates today condemned a tweet
published by Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett about
al-Aqsa Mosque, considering the statement as an official
Israeli recognition of targeting the al-Aqsa Mosque and its
courtyards as well as the Jordanian Islamic Endowment.
Bennett's tweet exposes the lies of Israeli officials who
always claimed the occupation's keenness to maintain the
status quo at al-Aqsa Mosque, the ministry said in a
statement.
In his tweet, Bennett said that all decisions related to the
al-Aqsa Mosque and Jerusalem are solely taken by the Israeli
government irrespective of any external considerations.
The ministry stressed that Bennett's statements showed
racist colonialism with distinction, describing them as an
official Israeli insistence on escalating the aggression
against Jerusalem and its holy sites, foremost of which is
the al-Aqsa Mosque.
The ministry slammed Bennett's statements as a flagrant
violation of international law, the Geneva Conventions, and
the signed agreements, stressing that such statements will
lead to more escalation.
It considered these Israeli positions as a challenge to the
international positions that demand the preservation of the
historical and legal status quo at al-Aqsa Mosque.

The United States, Canada, and several other governments
have accused the Chinese government of committing crimes
against humanity and genocide against the Uighur people,
after evidence emerged that the Chinese government has
forcibly sterilized Uighur women, separated children from
families, and forbidden certain Uighur cultural practices.
Uighurs (also spelled Uyghurs) are an ethnic group who are
predominantly Muslim, speak a Turkic language, and live
mainly in what is now the Xinjiang province in northwestern
China. Since 2016, the Chinese government has targeted
Uighur people with a vast surveillance system, heavy
policing, mass detentions, and forced labor systems.
Researchers estimate that more than 1 million Uighurs have
been detained in a series of prison camps throughout the
region.
Context
Uighurs comprise less than 1% of China's overall population
but historically were the majority in Xinjiang, a region
China has controlled since 1949. As China has developed
Xinjiang economically, the government has encouraged Han
Chinese to migrate to the province. This migration has
inflamed tensions between the Han majority and the Uighur
minority. Since 2000, Uighurs have protested unfair
treatment by the majority and multiple riots have broken
out, including a riot in 2009 in which 200 people died.
Claiming this violence was caused by separatist-fueled
terrorist groups, the Chinese government has responded in
recent years with widespread repression targeting the
broader Uighur population.
The government began implementing surveillance and policing
tactics against the Uighur in 2016 that have arguably made
Xinjiang one of the most heavily monitored places on earth.
Uighurs are banned from fasting during Ramadan, naming their
children with traditional Muslim names, and wearing
"abnormal beards."
In 2017, the Chinese government began detaining large
portions of the Uighur population in what they call
"reeducation centers" but are reported to be prison camps.
Eyewitnesses and human rights experts have reported that
political indoctrination, torture, and forced sterilizations
of women occur in these camps. More than one million Uighurs
are thought to have been detained.
