A National Shoora meeting is coming up to discuss issues of
great Concern for Muslims.
Muslims in America do need an independent organization based
on the Qur'an and authentic hadith.
Muslims are so confused that even their faith [aqeeda] and
belief system is getting muddled. Some of them believe that
Jesus, pbuh, will return and save the world from evil.
Variants of this "savior complex" in the anticipation that a
hidden savior or Mahdi will suddenly emerge if only we pray
hard enough for his return.
The Qur'an does not support these beliefs nor do the hadith
which teach "iman" or faith.
One result of the "savior complex" is that Muslims are not
focused on the efforts to bring justice to the world and to
strive against oppression, exploitation and power structures
which are denying the needs of humanity. Compassion and
forgiveness have largely been replaced by greed and deception.
Our organization, known as Jamaat al-Muslimeen, has a
consultative committee which will meet in a few days to
discuss issues which are important for Muslims. Some of
these are:
The rights of the downtrodden and the powerless.
The rights of women.
The rights of prisoners.
The need to oppose the occupation and aggression against Muslim countries.
The liberation of Palestine and Arabia.
Efforts to stop genocide in China and Myanmer.
Jamaat al-Muslimeen's efforts are reflected in the weekly
issues of New Trend magazine.
Our consultative committee is experienced in efforts to use
non-violent and legal means to create awareness and creative
solutions.
Participation is by invitation only but all Muslims are
welcome to advise and help us. Please write to:
Pakistan
Deforestation is serious in Pakistan.
[Excerpted from Qaiser Sharif.]
February 25: Sirajul Haq, ameer of Jamaate Islami
inaugurated the tree plantation campaign by planting a
sapling in Mansoora. He issued directions to the workers of
the JI to all over the country to at least plant one sapling
in their homes, gardens or anywhere during the spring season.
He said the PTI billion-tree project did not exist on
grounds. He said timber mafia was more powerful than sugar
and flour mafias in the country.
He said Pakistan deforestation rate was the world's highest.
He said the climate change and pollution became the major
issues and the successive governments failed to cater to the
challenge.
He said greenery vanished from Karachi and Lahore and other
big cities and millions of the residents were unable to take
breath in unpolluted air.
Most Pakistanis did not know this: US gave Pakistan Millions
for programs to westernize Pakistani women.
"The US Congress on Tuesday approved USD 25 million civilian
aid package for Pakistan to strengthen democracy and
"promote women's rights" in the South Asian country.
The USD 25 million provision reflects revival of civilian
aid package to Pakistan that was stopped by US President
Donald Trump in January 2018 along with all security
assistance, because of its non-cooperation in fight against
terrorism.
One of the prime movers of such an aid to Pakistan Senator
Lindsay Graham argued that it was "important to make life
better for women in Pakistan".
The legislation gives a minimum of 15 million USD to
Pakistan "for democracy programs" and 10 million USD "for
gender programs."
Appearing on Fox News, Senator Graham justified the move by
saying: "Pakistan is a place I really worry about. A woman
can't open up a bank account without her husband's
signature. She can't inherit property. If you're a young
girl in Pakistan life is pretty tough. So we're trying to
make life better for women throughout the world".
News Within the U.S.
Questioning the Covid-19 lockdown.
by Sis. Aisha
[Jamaat al-Muslimeen New York]
Recently, a 19-year old young man was arrested for throwing
a party. Future skateboarding Olympian, Nyjah Huston was
arrested for throwing a party during the COVID-19 Pandemic.
There have been other arrests of young people in Los
Angeles, CA, and as promised Mayor Eric Garcetti has
actually ordered the electricity to the homes of offenders
to be cutoff!
California has one of the most restrictive COVID-19 lockdown
requirements in the country. When will this tyranny end?
These worldwide lockdowns followed China's own lockdown.
China is a Communist World Power with a history of violating
the human rights of its own citizens, which includes
operating a Muslim Concentration Camp.
Now, the United States, which has always been critical of
communism to the point of ruining the careers of many
suspected communist-sympathizers during the 1950s Red Scare,
has copied this very aggressive, unproven measure.
These government-imposed lockdowns are not meant to curtail
or even eradicate COVID-19 but, to help keep it here!
COVID-19 data do not support the 'Pandemic' label. PCR
(swab) tests have been criticized for their inability to
distinguish between live Coronaviruses and the noninfectious
ones, which still register as a positive result. Most "false
positives" are asymptomatic people carrying the
noninfectious coronavirus, yet it is this growing statistic
that is being promoted as a threat to the general public.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has a
patent on the 2003 SARS virus, which COVID-19 (SARS 2) is
related to. Plus, they have patented methods for detecting
the virus. Dr. Ralph Baric, a microbiology and immunology
professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel
Hill, owns the patent for producing various versions of
Coronavirus.
In a January 2013 CBC News article, "Can You Patent A
Disease," Professor Bernard Dickens of Health Law & Policy
at the University of Toronto said, "Profit is what underlies
the whole patent system." Companies patent diseases so that
they are the only ones who can create the test kits and
vaccines for them! This gives them a lot of control and a
huge profit-potential.
According to Dr. David Martin ("Plandemic" Documentary), not
only has the Coronavirus been viewed as a money-maker in the
medical field but, Dr. Fauci, Dr. Baric, and the CDC have
controlled the entire cashflow between 2003 and 2017 from it.
Maybe the better question is: How Effective is this
Lockdown? If the ineffectiveness of these lockdowns can be
proven, people may start to question the intentions of the
officials enforcing such tyrannical measures, publicly.
Maybe these lockdowns will cease when the profiteering is
exposed.
Knowledge is not powerful unless it is put into action.

Muslim Leadership Silent as Dr. Aafia and Other Prisoners
Bear the Brunt of Texas Winter Weather Emergency Without
Heat and Running Water
By Nadrat Siddique
The recent unprecedented winter weather emergency in Texas
was another prime opportunity for U.S.-based Muslim
leadership to call for the release of political prisoner Dr.
Aafia Siddiqui.
As temperatures dipped into the teens and '20s, FMC
Carswell, the prison where Dr. Aafia is being held, was
without heat and running water for several days. Toilets
were overflowing due to the lack of water, and the women
prisoners put on multiple layers of clothing in an effort to
stay warm.
You can read the full story on that horrific situation here:
https://theintercept.com/2021/02/20/reality-winner-prison-cod-texas-freezing/
As usual, Muslim organizations, busily genuflecting to Biden
and his Hindu VP, dropped the ball, taking no action to
press for Dr. Aafia's release from a freezing cold prison.
While the immediate emergency appears over, it is a very sad
commentary on our Muslim organizations and Muslim leadership
that they did not raise a finger to help these women
prisoners, including Aafia, and missed a huge opportunity to
call for their release on humanitarian grounds. And so, we
who believe in freedom must remain vigilant.
ACTION ALERT: What you can do to help Aafia now:
Call or write to the prison
People of conscience, particularly those based in the U.S.,
should call or write the prison regularly to express concern
about Dr. Aafia Siddiqui. This will keep the authorities on
notice that people are vigilant and watching their actions,
and that Aafia is not forgotten.
When writing, please be polite, courteous, and, if possible,
specific (eg if a particular situation, eg the heat being
out, has just occurred, mention that). Be sure to use the
correct legal spelling of Aafia's name, and her register
number. These are:
Dr. Aafia Siddiqui, #90279-054
Send your letter to:
Michael Carr, Warden
FMC Carswell
PO Box 27066
Fort Worth, TX 76127
Or use this form:
BOP.gov/inmates/concerns.jsp
Write to Dr. Aafia Siddiqui in prison:
The worse thing for a political prisoner is the thought that
they have been forgotten, or that no one knows where they
are, or what is being done to them. A single letter from the
outside can mitigate such feelings. Some prisoners mention
reading and re-reading the letters they get many times over.
Letters should not mention illegal or violent acts, and
should be general expressions of concern.
Aafia Siddiqui, #90279-054
FMC Carswell
Federal Medical Center
PO Box 27137
Fort Worth, TX 76127
More than likely, your letter will be returned to you. (That
is what happened to a number of Maryland-based Aafia
supporters who wrote to her.) When the prison returns the
letter, they frequently also (perhaps as a taunt), let the
prisoner know they did so.
If your letter to Aafia is returned, it is important to call
the prison to ask them why.
Phone for FMC Carswell is:
(817) 782-4000
Hours (The prison administration only appears to accept
calls during these hours, U.S. Central Standard Time):
Sat: 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Sun: 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Again, these are small ways of letting the authorities know
the outside world is watching.
Send small amounts of money to Dr. Aafia's commissary
This will allow her to buy items not provided by the prison
from the commissary (prison store). The prison system has
very specific rules on how to send money to a prisoner:
If you want to send her money by mail, it must be a
money order (U.S. Postal money orders are best).
You must write her full, legal name and register
number on the money order itself.
Then, address the envelope as follows:
Federal Bureau of Prisons
Aafia Siddiqui
#90279-054
Post Office Box 474701
Des Moines, Iowa 50947-0001
Then, write your name and return address on the
upper left-hand corner of the envelope.
If you prefer to send Dr. Aafia money
electronically, you can do so using Western Union or
Moneygram. Again, the prison system has very specific rules
for doing this. Check them here, and follow the directions
as precisely as you can (to avoid rejection of payment):
BOP.gov/inmates/communications.jsp#money
Send Aafia a birthday card:
Aafia's birthday is March 2. She will spend it in a cold,
filthy, COVID-ridden prison, while both U.S. and Pakistani
lawmakers (including Pakistani PM Imran Khan, who came to
power on campaign promises to free her) ignore the enormous
injustice being done to her. Send her a birthday card to
let her know she is not forgotten. (A very simple card, with
no frills or decorations, or a postcard with your
handwritten birthday message is best.)
Send the card to:
Aafia Siddiqui, #90279-054
FMC Carswell
Federal Medical Center
PO Box 27137
Fort Worth, TX 76127
Educate yourself about the case, and join any local
actions, protests, etc calling for justice for Aafia.

ASA - Mumia Abu-Jamal, like Imam Jamil Al-Amin, and many
other of our beloved political prisoners, has been in ill
health over an extended period, and his supporters have been
calling for his release on humanitarian grounds for a long
while. Now he has been diagnosed with COVID-19. This is an
important opportunity for Muslims to show solidarity with
the Black community.
--Nadrat Siddique
Mumia had COVID-19. He is medically vulnerable, and is
experiencing shortness of breath and chest pains. We need
everyone to call the Superintendent of Mumia's Prison and
demand he be taken to the hospital for treatment for
COVID-19. It is not okay that they merely test him (they had
not as of Fri. night), the results will take days to come
back and he is experiencing chest pains & breathing problems
now--and COVID requires quick medical care to avoid death.
The gangster, the general and the prime minister of Bangladesh.
The story of how one of Bangladesh's most notorious
gangsters came to have the protection of an army and the
loyalty of a leader.
By Will Thorne and Al Jazeera Investigative Unit

"I can have you killed. But if I kill you, then you won't
feel the pain. I will make you suffer."
Mohammad Hasan smiled grimly and took a deep drag on his
cigarette. His hands, loaded with gold rings and bracelets,
clinked as he described how he settled an old score with a
rival. A cloud of smoke rose towards the ceiling of the
cramped room in a money exchange kiosk on a quiet Budapest
backstreet. He expressed little emotion or pity. It appeared
to be just business. It was like a scene from a mafia movie.

Bangladesh director arrested after film shows police in bad light
He explained how he had enlisted an infamous elite
anti-terrorism unit thousands of miles away to track his
victim's mobile phone and arrest him. His remarkable story
of revenge and punishment links him to one of the most
feared paramilitary groups in the world: the Rapid Action
Battalion or RAB, notorious for murders, abductions and
torture throughout Bangladesh. It also links him to the very
top of that country's political elite and to one of the most
powerful men in the country.
Who is Mohammad Hasan?
Mohammad Hasan is two people, one of whom has a very
important family name.
His first identity is that of a small-time businessman from
Bangladesh who journeyed thousands of miles to build a new
life in Europe. The money exchange, called Bay of Bengal, is
one of several ventures Hasan has run in Budapest since
arriving in May 2015. The money exchange is illegal with no
license to operate, but that does not matter to Hasan.
Next door, tucked away in a narrow street is another of his
ventures - a small traditional Hungarian diner trading under
the name Gulyas Etterem, Goulash Restaurant. It is in the
heart of the old quarter where tourists usually flock, but
the restaurant is losing money just like Hasan's other
businesses. He has operated a student hostel, another
restaurant in the old quarter and a women's clothing store.
Hasan has money problems, but not the ones you would
suspect. There are plenty of funds flowing his way; his
problem is working out how to hide this wealth.
But this Mohammad Hasan, slightly built with a taste for
expensive clothes, is a work of pure fiction. It is a false
identity built on dozens of carefully forged documents that
helped Bangladesh's "most wanted" gangster effectively
disappear into thin air. Now Al Jazeera's Investigative Unit
can reveal the real identity of Mohammed Hasan, a man who
can boast the loyalty of a world leader and the protection
of an army.
His real name is Haris Ahmed and he is the third-oldest son
of a large family from the Bangladeshi capital, Dhaka. Born
in 1966, he left school early and as a young man quickly
found demand for his talent for violence and extortion among
the crime gangs of his city. Along with his brothers -
Josef, Anis and Tipu - the Ahmed clan built up a fearsome
reputation as back-street enforcers for hire; men capable of
extreme violence when they deemed it necessary.
The rise of the Ahmed brothers
In the 1980s, the Ahmed clan had established their grip on
the sprawling Mohammadpur district of Dhaka, which brought
them wealth and prominence. It was a bustling area, full of
small businesses and food stalls where the four brothers
extorted shop owners to pay for their protection.
Bangladesh in the 1980s was a good place for the Ahmed
brothers to ply their trade, a violent and unstable country
still raw from civil war and a military coup in which the
country's founding president, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and his
family were murdered by army officers.
Before 1971, there was no Bangladesh, it was East Pakistan
and governed by Islamabad. Known as the father of the
nation, Sheikh Mujib had led an uprising against Pakistan.
It was a savage war in which the Pakistan army slaughtered
at least 300,000 civilians. Pakistan was defeated with
decisive military help from neighbouring India, which
retains a powerful influence in Bangladesh to this day.
The young nation was seething with political violence and a
partnership was soon to emerge between politicians and the
street gangs. In return for the patronage of the
politicians, gangs provided the muscle that helped them
survive.

The Ahmed clan's networks in the Dhaka underworld proved
critical to the survival of the leaders of the Awami League,
the political party previously led by the murdered Sheikh
Mujib. By now it was led by his daughter Sheikh Hasina, who
had returned to Bangladesh from exile in India in 1981.
It was a particularly challenging time for the young
politician, the oldest of Sheikh Mujib's children. She and
her sister, Sheikh Rehana, only escaped the violent fate of
their family as they were out of the country at the time. In
1982, following yet another coup, the military-backed
government of General Hussain Muhammad Ershad seized power.
Sheikh Hasina faced the constant threat of house arrest,
detention and physical attack.
Amidst the violence and uncertainty, the Ahmed brothers
became the unofficial security cordon that shielded Sheikh
Hasina. They guarded her at rallies and provided safe houses
where Awami League politicians could meet without fear of
arrest or attack.
The brothers were feared. But they were also to face
vengeance. Tipu was the youngest and, according to a friend,
the most intelligent of the brothers. After establishing
himself as the don who ran Mohammadpur, he was murdered in
1999 in a gangland killing.
Two decades earlier, while four of the Ahmed brothers worked
their way up the ranks of Dhaka's criminal underworld, a
fifth, Aziz Ahmed, chose a different path when he enlisted
in the Bangladesh army. His colleagues at the Bangladesh
Military Academy rated him as an unremarkable officer, but
Aziz rose quickly through the ranks, his promotions in
lockstep with the growing political power of Sheikh H
asina

"Glory to Allah, who took Muhammad for a journey by the

Signs." (Quran, Children of Israel, Ch. 17:1) Allah has
spoken the truth!
The Year of Sorrow
It was th 12th year of the Mission of Muhammad (saw). He was
depressed as he didn't receive any Wahy, revelation, for
over 6 months. His beloved wife, Khadija (ra.), a source of
comfort and support, has passed away. His uncle Hazrat Abu
Talib, a pillar of strength, who defended him against the
vicious attacks of his enemies, was also passed away.
It was truly a "Year of Sorrow" according to some writers of
Seerah, Biography.
His mission to Taif was not successful. He had tried to
invite the people to Islam, but in hateful and humiliating
retaliation, the leaders of the town sent their youth after
him, attacking him with rocks until his blood oozing out his
body. Although the Prophet Muhammad (saw) was not
frustrated; nevertheless, the mission to Taif didn't turn
out as expected.
Persecution of the Muslims increased manifold. There were
even discussions among the Pagan to kill the Prophet
(saw).
The pagans were learning from the Jewish and Christian
leaders and demanding Muhammad to produce miracles! It was
indeed a crucial time in the mission of Prophet Muhammad
(saw).
The Journey Begins
The Prophet (saw) was resting in his ancestors home in the
precinct of Kaabah. Archangel Jibriel (as) came down through
the roof and awakened Rasool Allah and cleansed his heart
with the holy water of Zam Zam. Then he poured Iman, Faith,
and Hikmah, wisdom, into his heart.
Archangel Jibriel (as) then took him to the gate of Kaaba
and offered him a mule-like animal, called Buraq for the
ride, something like mythological Pegasus; however, Buraq is
real with 2 wings.
Buraq is the plural of Burq, meaning lightning. It was
indeed an animal faster than the speed of light. The Speed
of light is 386,000 miles/sec. It did undermine the time and
space constraints.
The Journey from Kaaba to al-Aqsa
From Kaabah, Prophet Muhammad (saw) flew on Buraq and Angel
Jibriel (as) flew along side of Buraq. They reached al-Aqsa
in no time. It is located in the present day Jerusalem.
Prophet Muhammad (saw) offered short Saalat of 2 Rakaat.
Archangel Jibriel (as) offered him 3 cups: filled with
Water, Milk, and Wine to drink. The Prophet (saw) drank milk
from its cup and he didn't even touch the other two.
Archangel Jibriel (as) witnessed it and remarked: "You are
indeed in your Fitra!" (Fitra is the natural state of human
beings)
The Journey Across Heavens
From masjid al-Aqsa they ascended to the Heavens, the
Prophet (saw) on the Buraq and Archangel (as) flying along
side of Buraq. They traveled across the seven Heavens. The
prophet Muhammad(saw) met with all the great prophets of
Allah on the way:Adam (as) on 1st level, Yahyah (as) and
Jesus (as) on 2ndlevel, Yusuf (as) on 3rd, Idris on 4th,
Haroon(as) on 5th, Musa (as) on 6th, and Ibrahim (as) on 7th.
Finally they reached the place where the Tree of Mystery (Q
53:14) is located. Archangel Jibriel(as) stopped and told
the Prophet (saw) that he is not allowed to go beyond
سِدْرَةِ
الْمُنتَ§َىٰ,Sidratun Muntaha.
"...near the Lote-tree! beyond which none may pass. Near it
is the Garden of Abode. Behold, the Lote-tree was shrouded
(in mystery unspeakable!)" (An-Najm 53:14-16)
The Prophet Muhammad (saw) traveled further on his own to
meet his Lord, Allah. "(His) sight never swerved, nor did it
go wrong! For truly he did see of the signs of his Lord, the
Greatest!"
(An-Najm 53:17-18)

Conversation with Allah, the Lord of the Universe
When he met Allah, the Angels welcomed him by reciting at
the beginning: "All compliments, all prayers, and worship
are for Allah."
Allah welcome the Prophet Muhammad (saw) : " Peace be upon
you, O! Prophet and Allah's Mercy and Blessings upon you."
To this, Prophet Muhammad (saw) replied: "Peace be on us and
on all your righteous servants ( O! Allah)."
Prophet Muhammad (saw) did include all his followers
including future believers" (at his most important meeting
of Prophethood with Allah).
After listening to this conversation between Allah and His
Messenger (saw), the Angels witnessed by reciting:
"Ash'had'u'un La ilaha-illallahu Wa Ash'hadu Anna;
Muhammadun Ab-du-hu Wa Rasooluh"
"I bear witness that no one is worthy of worship except
Allah and I bear witness that Muhammad is Allah's servant
and Messenger."
This is at-Tahiyat and it is the actual part of the
conversation between Allah and the Prophet Muhammad (saw).
The believers recite it in Jalsah, sitting position,
everyday when offering their daily Salaat. It is a reminder
to believers and participation in the historic meeting,
Mairaj, between Allah and the Prophet Muhammad (saw).
The Special Gift of Salaat
At this meeting, Allah gave the Special Gift of Salaat to
His Prophet (saw) and the Umma of the Prophet Muhammad
(saw). Initial gift of Salaat was for offering Salaat 50
times a day; however, with the Mentorship of Prophet Musa
(as), it is reduced to 5 times a day with the reward equal
to 50 times.
"I am, I am Allah. There is no god except Me: So, worship
Me; and establish Salaat, institution of Ibadah, worship for
My remembrance." (Q 20:14)

Led the Prayer of All Prophets
On the return Prophet Muhammad (saw) stopped over at
al-Quds, Jerusalem and he met with all the Prophets of
Allah, all 124,000. He was also given the honor to lead them
in Salaah at Masjid al-Aqsa, the Farthest Masjid. It
established the leadership of Prophet Muhammad (saw) in the
world. In ordinary circumstances it would have helped the
Prophet's mission; but, the pride of Bani Israel prevented
them understanding this great event and the prophethood of
Rasool Allah (saw).
The Importance and Significance of Jerusalem
There is great significance of Masjid al-Aqsa and Haram
Sharief in the lives of Muslims. It has also served as the
First Qibla for them after the Injunction of Salaat. Due to
the importance of this story in Islam, the Masjid Al Aqsa
and the city of Jerusalem (al-Quds) have become an integral
part of the Muslim Faith. The Masjid al-Aqsa is considered
Sacred by all sects of Islam, and many faithful believers
make the journey to its site. All agree that the importance
of Jerusalem in the story of Lailat al Miraj also makes it a
Sacred city in Islam. Thus, they join Christians and Jews in
this belief, and the city of Jerusalem is Sacred to all
three faiths. With its long Islamic history dating back
centuries, it continues to play a major role in the Islamic
Faith and tradition. When Jeruselem was under Muslim Rule
they respected all sacred sites and the faithfuls of all
faith were given open access and freedom to worship.

Hadith of the Week
Narrated by 'Aisha, r.a.:
I asked Allah's Apostle about the plague. He said,
"That was a means of torture which Allah used to send upon
whom-so-ever He wished,
but He made it a source of mercy for the believers, for
anyone who is residing in a town in which this disease is
present, and remains there and does not leave that town, but
has patience and hopes for Allah's reward, and knows that
nothing will befall him except what
Allah has written for him,
then he will get such reward

Ibn Qayyim (ra) said:
"This worldly life is like a shadow. If you try to catch it,
you will never be able to do so. If you turn your back
towards it, it has no choice but to follow you."
This dunya is not the real deal.
Chasing the dunya while disregarding the hereafter is like

Patients enrolled at the Montefiore Einstein Cardiac
Wellness Program are experiencing dramatic improvements in
their health, via making some key diet and lifestyle changes
under the care and guidance of the program's experts.
Many of these patients who had been diagnosed with heart or
blood vessel disease, are losing weight, lowering their
cholesterol and blood pressure, improving their energy
levels and even reversing type 2 diabetes.
The program brings a unique nutrition-centered approach to
the management of cardiovascular disease, aiming to prevent
and reverse heart disease with a whole-food plant-based
diet.

Report on sex trafficking in Canada reveals a surprising
demographic
A new report that looks at the human trafficking
transportation corridors throughout the country also reveals
surprising statistics on the demographic of victims.
The study, published by The Canadian Centre to End Human
Trafficking (CCEHT) finds that human trafficking corridors
exist in nearly province. There are notable exceptions in
the Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut, where human
trafficking and demand for it exist, though limited
transportation infrastructure impacts the quick movement of
traffickers.
The trafficking corridors are both inter- and
intra-provincial, and span some of the major routes taken by
millions of Canadians every day. Some of these include
Ontario's Highway 401, which connects from Montreal to
Windsor, and passes several densely populated regions, like
the Greater Toronto Area, as well as corridors between
Calgary, Edmonton and Fort McMurray and Grande Prairie,
which the report found to be used both by Albertan
traffickers and those outside the province, namely from
Ontario and Quebec. It found a growing trend on this
particular corridor was that most of the victims were from
Quebec and spoke little to no English. This is seen as
another method to control the victims.
Canada's West Coast circuit, between Quebec and Alberta, was
the route most commonly identified by those interviewed for
the report. Victims often are flown from Montreal to
Calgary, where they work near the airport or downtown, or
are then moved along the intra-provincial corridor between
Calgary and Fort McMurray. In the east, the corridor between
Halifax, Nova Scotia and Moncton, New Brunswick is
well-known. Strip clubs can legally operate in New Brunswick
but not in Nova Scotia.
Victims are often Canadians
While intercontinental human trafficking is prevalent, what
many people might not realize is that a vast percentage of
victims in Canada are Canadian girls and women, rather than
those coming from other countries. The report found that 84
per cent of those who took part in the study were Canadian,
between the ages of under 18 and 19-24. And that doesn't
even scratch the surface.
266 to zero
Thank you Canada
Canada's House of Commons has voted overwhelmingly to
declare China's treatment of its Uighur minority population
a genocide.
The motion - which passed 266 to 0 - was supported by all
opposition parties and a handful of lawmakers from the
governing Liberal Party.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and most members of his
cabinet abstained.
The motion makes Canada just the second country after the
United States to recognise China's actions as genocide.
Lawmakers also voted to pass an amendment asking Canada to
call on the International Olympic Committee to move the 2022
Winter Olympics from Beijing "if the Chinese government
continues this genocide".
China responded late on Tuesday, saying it condemned and
rejected Canada's motion, according to a Reuters report. It
quoted foreign ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin as saying that
China had lodged "stern representations" with Canada.

US: China 'committed genocide against Uighurs'
Mr Trudeau has so far been hesitant to label China's actions
against the Uighur minority in Xinjiang a genocide, calling
the term "extremely loaded" and saying further examination
was needed before a decision could be made.
Just one member of his cabinet, Foreign Affairs Minister
Marc Garneau, appeared in parliament for the vote. Speaking
in the House of Commons, Mr Garneau said he had abstained
"on behalf of the government of Canada".
Speaking ahead of the vote, opposition leader Erin O'Toole
said the move was necessary to send a "clear and unequivocal
signal that we will stand up for human rights and the
dignity of human rights, even if it means sacrificing some
economic opportunity".
In an open letter to Mr Trudeau earlier this month asking
him to "stand up to China", Mr O'Toole noted the recent
banning of BBC World News from China - a decision that
followed a BBC report alleging systematic rape, sexual abuse
and torture in China's "re-education" camps in Xinjiang.
Monday's non-binding motion marks the latest escalation in
Canada-China relations, which have soured over recent
years.

Ghana security forces shut down LGBTQ office: Rights group
Ghana security forces raided and shut down the office of an
LGBTQ rights group in the capital, Accra, the organisation
has said, after politicians and religious leaders called for
its closure.

and members of the LGBTQ community face widespread

"This morning, our office was raided by National Security,"
the LGBT+ Rights Ghana group said on Twitter on
Wednesday.
"At this moment, we no longer have access to our safe space
and our safety is being threatened," it said, adding that "a
few days ago, traditional leaders threatened to burn down
our office but the police did not help". Foreign diplomats
in the country came under fire after some attended the
opening of the centre on January 31.
The European Union's delegation in Ghana tweeted at the time
that representatives had "participated in the opening of the
new community space".
The LGBTQ group's director, Alex Donkor, told the AFP news
agency that closing the centre was against human rights.
"Ghana is a free country and we expect the president and the
security agencies to rather protect us instead of
threatening us," Donkor said.
There was no immediate statement by the police.
But the owner of the property, Asenso Gyambi, said he had
reported the group to security agencies.
Gyambi told AFP he was not aware his house was being rented
by LGBT+ Rights Ghana.
"I wasn't happy about it ... I had to report it to the
security agencies to take action. I won't tolerate such
activities in my property."
Ghana's minister-designate for gender, children and social
protection, Sarah Adwoa Safo, said last week that "the issue
of the criminality of LGBT is non-negotiable and our
cultural practices also frown on it".
There is no legislation in Ghana explicitly prohibiting
homosexuality, but gay sex is criminalised, with offenders
potentially facing up to 25 years in prison..
