AUTHOR of "FROM UTAH TO ETERNITY" WRITES ABOUT
HER ACCEPTANCE OF ISLAM
(at New Trend's request)
["From Utah to Eternity" was chosen as New
Trend's BOOK OF THE MONTH for
August 2003.]
I come from London and was brought up in a
Catholic family in Wimbledon.
I studied Linguistics and French at Manchester
university and then studied to
be an English teacher. While teaching in Japan I
read books about religion
including Islam and decided to embrace Islam as I
found it absolutely compelling
and all the questions and objections I had were
answered.
I returned to London and was introduced to my
husband and we settled in
Scotland. Good Da'wah and Outreach programmes
were developed while we were there
and I increased my knowledge alhamdullilah. I
joined the ISB when It was
established and was involved with helping with
publications, Da'wah work such as
lectures and exhibitions and radio work.
It was while I was there that I wrote 'Utah'
I have also completed a survey of attitudes to
hijab not yet published and I
am working on a book about globalisation. I also
write various articles.
We have just left Scotland with fond farewells to
many dear friends but look
forward to seeing them as we settle in my
husband's country,
Egypt,
with our
five children. Greetings to all readers,
brothers, sisters and friends from
sunny Egypt. With the blessings of Allah the
Internet helps us all keep in touch.
Wassalaam
