2000 Demonstrate Against
U.S.
Moves in Haiti:
[From
Jamaat al-Muslimeen's
representative in Brooklyn, NY]
I was at a mass demonstration on Feb. 28 in
Brooklyn with the Haitian Communities. There were about two
thousand people there. Majority was from the Haitian
communities and also some people from the
International Action Center.
It was sad not to see
some of the people from the Caribbean Region and the
African American and the Muslim Community. There was
one small group from the African Americans which is a
local group which is called the December 12th
Movement.
As Muslims we must support the oppressed
regardless to religion of the people who are oppressed
by the same forces we are fighting around the world. We
must stand up and be with the people. The chant of the
demonstration was:
election yes Coup de'tat no.
America
was behind this coup also. Removing the President
Aristide from power has serious implications for
the Caribbean Region and Latin American countries. I
was representing the
Jamaat al-Muslimeen
and the
Caribbean being from the region. I was the only Muslim
there when you have many brothers and sisters who are
Muslim from the region. We are silent on
the face of oppression that is taking Place here and
elsewhere in the world. It seems that we have
Islam
just to go and Pray and that all that is
American Islam
which the American government wants us to
pratice here.

Our Br. Abdul Sattar al-Dahir [from
Iraq]
was a unique Muslim. Here are a few words on his passing from
Br. Mohammed N. Elmasry, a learned brother in New Jersey wom we respect.
Even though we accept death as certainty and it could come anytime,
but I felt so sad for the loss of Br. Adbul Sattar............
He was a great man that gave everything he could..time, energy, money,
and soul...
He used to sleep at the Masjid during his visits to the NY & NJ to
save the money for the children....
You know who will miss him most...the CHILDREN of the Muslim world.
