"In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most
Merciful.
Say: O ye that reject faith!
I worship not that which ye worship,
Nor will ye worship that which I worship.
And I will not worship that which ye have been
wont to worship,
Nor will ye worship that which I worship.
To you be your Way, and to me mine."
[The Qur'an 109:1-6]
[From Jabir ibn Zaid] The Prophet, peace and
blessings of Allah be with him,
said: "Allah curses the unjust, their helpers,
and those who help their
helpers, even by handing them a pen."
[Al-Warijlani, Kitab al-Dalil li Ahl al-uqul.]
Jabir, student and friend of Abdullah ibn Abbas,
r.a., quoted this
hadith
when he actually refused to hand a pen to the
tyrant Ommayed Governor, al Hajjaj
Jamaat al-Muslimeen's Symposium in
Greensboro attracted delegates from
various areas of:
New York
Pennsylvania
Maryland
Washington, DC
Virginia
North Carolina
Georgia
Illinois
Texas
California
SIGNS OF OUR TIMES
The tenor of the meeting can be sensed
from an incident towards
closing time when Br. Hammad, from Falls Church,
Virginia and Br. Umar ben-Ivan,
from St. Louis, Missouri joined the Symposium.
These are law-abiding citizens of
the U.S. whose homes have been raided repeatedly
by "law enforcement" in an
effort to intimidate them into becoming
informants against other Muslims. They
are standing firm against severe pressure. [See
New Trend's excerpts from the
St. Louis Post Dispatch
newspaper where it was
indicated that the U.S. wants
to put one of them in a bad light for links with
Lashkare Taiba in
Pakistan,
a group dedicated to the
Kashmir
struggle.]
The meeting would not have been possible
without the efforts of Imam
Badi Ali, leader of the Muslim community in North
Carolina and Imam of Islamic
Center of the Triad. The meeting started and
ended on time, with punctuality in
prayers and meals. [Br. Badi, well-versed in the
teachings of Imam Ahmad ibn
Hanbal, was a source of solid Islamic information
for the gathering.]
The gathering started with recitation from
the Qur'an focusing on the
battle of Uhud.
The theoretical groundwork for the Symposium
was laid by Dr. ABDUL ALIM
SHABAZZ, the elder of the community, who spoke
with great eloquence on RACISM in
America. It was an erudite presentation summing
up the roots of racism, its
origin, development and characteristics. Dr.
Shabazz pointed out that racism is
a false construct developed with sinister
purposes. In fact, human beings,
who came out of
Africa,
are all one people,
genetically, biologically and
historically.
Dr. Shabazz's brilliant presentation
provided that tempo which
characterized the rest of the day of discussions.
Sis. Motisola Abdallah spoke several times
during the Symposium to
help the delegates keep in focus the practical
steps needed to create a viable
organization, particularly the need for
COMMUNICATION, COORDINATION and FUNDS.
BOYCOTT MOVEMENT ORGANIZED by Jamaat
al-Muslimeen.
Several presenters spoke on the need for a
COORDINATED and BITING boycott of
Jewish and other businesses which support Israel.
One presenter has compiled a
COMPREHENSIVE LIST of businesses linked to
Israel. Inshallah, these efforts
will feed into the INTERNATIONAL BOYCOTT MOVEMENT
against Israel.
NEW YORK is the CENTER OF JEWISH ZIONIST
power and an inside report on
New York by a young presenter led to the issue of
the need for a Jamaat
al-Muslimeen center to be set up in New York,
inshallah. She was supported by a
presenter from Brooklyn who explained Zionism in
terms of racism.
A wonderful NEWCOMER to the Jamaat is Br.
Solano, a Mexican brother,
who is creative in his efforts to carry out
DA'WAH AMONG HISPANIC PEOPLE. A
man who uses a sense of humor to cope with the
world we live in, Br. Solano
works hard to spread the light. He has with him
copies of the Qur'an, big size
and small size, translated into Spanish, which he
distributes to those thirsty
for the truth, as he travels. Br. Solano is
tireless in giving Da'wah not only
in person but also on the Internet. With a keen
insight into the injustices
being perpetrated by the power structure, he is
indeed a welcome activist in the
Jamaat. His speech made people both laugh and
think.
IMAM JAMIL'S REPRESENTATIVE SPEAKS:
The icing on the cake was a superb
presentation by Imam Khalil Abdur
Rahman, representative of the International
Committee defending Imam Jamil
al-Amin. He ably highlighted the significance of
the struggle of the Imam of
America, whose adherence to the Example of the
Prophet, pbuh, has set a new standard
for the Muslims of America.
SHAIKH OMAR ‘ABDEL RAHMAN:
The Symposium was pleasantly surprised to see
the sister who originated
the Committee to Free Shaikh Omar ‘Abdel Rahman,
and she made a statement about
the struggle for the rights of all oppressed
people in America.
SPIRITUAL ASPECTS:
The Symposium did not neglect the importance
of the connection between
the individual and Allah Almighty. A sister gave
a well-thought out and thought
provoking paper on Muslims living in Christian
families [where often one is
the ONLY Muslim] and in America's Christian
environment.
THE CONSENSUS:
Br. Kaukab Siddique, the Ameer of Jamaat
al-Muslimeen, moderated the
program with the help of Sis. Motisola. As a
result of the efforts of these two
and Imam Badi Ali, Jamaat al-Muslimeen's
consensus on the future of Islamic
work in America is as follows:
Jamaat al-Muslimeen is a LEGAL, PEACEFUL and
RATIONAL Movement rooted in
the Qur'an and the Sunnah, uncompromising in its
opposition to oppression
within and outside America.. PALESTINE is CENTRAL
to our cause because Palestine,
victimized by Zionism, symbolizes the struggle of
all oppressed people, be
they African-Americans, Hispanics and women in
America, or Kashmiris,
Chechens,
Afghans
and
Iraqis
overseas.
Jamaat al-Muslimeen is opposed to war and
calls for analytical study and
critique of the American power structure, used
by the Zionists, which is
carrying out exploitation of human and economic
resources and suppression of the
rights of peoples all over the world.
