LIES, LIES, THE WEAPONS OF MASS DECEPTION
[Dr. Edward Miller has contributed many thought
provoking articles to New
Trend during the last 10 years. Here he dissects
Bush's
dilemma and the
problems with the role of Blix and Baradei, plus
the "neo-cons".]
"Whether it is a democracy or a
fascist dictatorship or a
parliament or a communist dictatorship ….the
people can always be brought to
the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All
you have to do is tell them
that they are being attacked and denounce the
pacifists for lack of
patriotism and exposing the country to danger.
It works the same way in
every country."
Hermann Goering ( NUREMBERG DIARY )
On February 4th Mohamed El Baradei,
Director-General of the IAEA,
(International Atomic Energy Association)
reported to the Security Council
that as a result of 177 inspections and visits to
120 related nuclear
locations "Iraq's nuclear program was
neutralized …and there was no
evidence of its rejuvenation." After White
House spokesman Art Fleischer at
the follow-up press conference stated: "We know
he has it." Hans Blix
challenged Fleischer, got the White House list
of 25 sites, and with his
team inspected each site and found "nothing".
El Baradei's second report
to the UN Security Council in March yielded the
same negative results.
As Bush's nuclear "weapons of mass destruction"
campaign began to fall
apart his team has concentrated on Saddam's
"chemical and biological
weapons". Here again, the White House is being
hoisted on its own petard.
First, back in 1995, Saddam's son-in-law,
Hussein Kamel, had revealed to the UN, to our
CIA,
and to Britain's MI-6 that Iraq had destroyed all its
chemical and biological weapons in 1991, along
with the missile systems for
their delivery. This admission was kept secret
by these agencies, and Kamel,
who had defected to Jordan along with Saddam's
daughter, on his return to
Iraq was executed for treason. Second:, there
have surfaced a number of articles and
media
reports demonstrating clearly that both biological and
chemical materials for Iraq's weapons systems
employed during the
eight-year war with Iran, were sold to Saddam
Hussein by the US and its
allies, and more embarrassing, that it was
Donald Rumsfeld, a present
member of Bush's trioka, who was then
representing the
US'
companies in this military-commercial venture. A
photograph of Rumsfeld shaking
hands with Saddam Hussein in his palace in 1980
is available on the Web.

Another fact, not mentioned by our media, is
that Saddam, even if still in
possession these materials, today has no systems
to deliver them. His
long-range missiles, impossible to hide from
satellite reconnaissance and
which Iraq's scientists never perfected, are
long gone. Iraq's
short-range missiles are presently being
confiscated by the Blix team.
These Al Samoud missiles were permitted under
the UN sanctions, but
despite this are today being destroyed largely
as a public-relations ploy
by Blix and Company. The repeated hoopla
that Saddam cheated because
these weapons exceeded their allotted distance
by a few miles is pure
baloney. Since their nose cones were empty at the
time of the tests, the
missiles exceeded their specified range in 17
out of 40 tests. Iraqi
scientists, however were not allowed to re-test
the missiles under proper
weight loads since Washington was already
raising such a brou ha ha, and our local
Zionists
were furiously lobbying to
remove whatever protection
Saddam might still possess to guard his
borders.
Failing to convince much of the public that
Saddam still possesses those
WMD's Bush is now concentrating on his role
as a savior of the Iraqi
people, rescuing them from a "vicious tyrant"
while pointing them
squarely on the road toward democracy. It is
not likely to be a
successful sell. First, before the Allies
destroyed Iraq in the Gulf War,
Saddam's people were enjoying the highest
standard of living in the
Mideast. Iraqis had universal health care,
free university tuition, and
more women in politics, the universities,
business and graduate studies than
any other Mideast country. Moreover, the older
Iraqis clearly recall
those same hollow promises from their own
colonial past and today,
watching the media, they are fully aware of
Washington's current failure to
spend any significant energy and money
rebuilding the just- re-ravaged
Afghanistan.
Mideast specialist and revered columnist Robert
Fisk, writing in the
INDEPENDENT (6 March 2003), quoted a
Proclamation to the people of
..Baghdad issued by Britain's Lieutenant-General
Stanley Maude on March
6th, 1917, shortly after Maude's British troops
had invaded and were then
occupying Iraq. The British General
announced: "Our armies do not come
into your cities and lands as conquerors or
enemies, but as liberators.
…People of Baghdad remember for 26 generations
you have suffered under
strange tyrants…. This policy is abhorrent to
Great Britain.." (sound
familiar?) Fisk likens Britain's Maude to
Bush's General Tommy Franks. Fisk
also reports that author David Fromkiin in his
book: A PEACE TO END ALL
PEACE, described how the British, seizing the
Turkish Petroleum Company in
Mosul, gave the French a major company share
rather than the promised
Mosul oil fields. The Company's new name: The
Iraq Petroleum Company.
Fisk says western colonialism in the Mideast,
in
Lebanon,
Syria
and
Palestine,
was always sold as
...."liberation..accompanied by another
theme: the necessity of overthrowing tyrants…"
It is obvious that the drive to seize Iraq is
driven by Cheney's oil
friends. As noted in today's
SF Chronicle
a company tied to Vice President Cheney
has just won a Pentagon contract "for advice
on rebuilding Iraq oil fields
after a possible war."
There is another hidden impetus behind Bush's
War. As revealed in the
March/April 2003 magazine,
MOTHER JONES,
by investigative reporter Robert
Dreyfuss, the United States "has steadily been
accumulating military
muscle in the Gulf, building bases, selling
weaponry and forging military
partnerships. Now, it is poised to consolidate
its might in a place that
will be a fulcrum of the world's balance of power
for decades to come. At a
stroke, by taking control of Iraq the Bush
administration can solidify a
long-running strategic design. Dreyfuss quotes
James Akins, former US
diplomat and once ambassador to Saudi Arabia :
It's the Kissinger Plan"
says Akins," "I thought it had been killed,
but it's back".
According to Akins, the plan to seize Arab oil
was initiated in 1975 in a
series of well-placed articles in such American
magazines as Harpers,
Business Week, and Commentary. Dreyfuss notes:
"the idea began to gain
favor among a feisty group of hardline, pro
Israel
thinkers…who played
important roles in President Reagan's Defense
Department." Today, lead
by Richard Perle, chairman of the Pentagon's
Defense Policy Board, and
Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz,
this group now : "occupies
several dozen key posts in the White House, the
Pentagon and the State
Department."
A Washington think tank; Dreyfuss notes,
named: Project for the New
American Century, whose members include Richard,
Perle, strategist Robert
Kagan, William Kristol, NEW REPUBLIC publisher,
Martin Peretz, and ex-CIA
Director James Woolsey are "tied to a web of
similar neo-conservative,
pro-Israel organizations" Dreyfuss quotes
Diplomat Akins: "It's a team
that looks all too familiar, seeking to implement
the plan first outlined
back in 1975. It'll be easier once we have
Iraq…we already have Qatar, and
Bahrain too so it's only Saudi Arabia we're
talking about, and the United
Arab Emirates.." Robert Dreyfuss also quotes
Michael Klare, Hampshire
College professor, and author of RESOURCE WARS,
who concluded that
"Control over the Persian Gulf translates into
control over Europe, Japan,
and China. It's having our hand on the spigot."
Muslims across the globe as they watch their
satellite-accessed news from
Al Jazeera,
are well-aware of these
international power-plays. Yesterday
500,000
Pakistanis
overran the streets of
Rawalpindi in anti-war-anti- Bush
protests, while
Indonesias'
capital Jakarta
swelled with over 800,000
chanting against Bush's war. Their concern is
not only threats to the
future of their Mideast Arab emirates, but,
with many of the Bush' team
closely allied with Israel, they fear
Washington's march towards Mideast
hegemony may be linked to Israel's Sharon and
his Likud's dreams of Eretz
Israel.
The legitimacy of this Muslim fear was recently
outlined by George Bisharat,
Hastings Law professor, in a SF Chronicle column,
Bisharat wrote: "..the
real reason we are going to war is the messianic
vision of a small but
influential group of strongly pro-Israel hawks
within the Bush
administration. Their goal is unilateral global
domination through absolute
military superiority. Bisharat notes that the
group's leader, Richard
Perle: "helped author a study for Israeli
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyhu
describing Hussein's overthrow as "an
important Israeli strategic
objective in its own right." War against Iraq
would eliminate any obstacle
to a disposition of the Israeli-Palestinian
conflict on terms that satisfy
Israel's territorial ambitions on most or all of
the West Bank.
Can worldwide protest halt this Bush march
towards Armageddon??
