Prince Bandar ibn Saud
Saudi Ambassador to the U.S.
Washington, D.C
Dear Mr. Ambassador
I represent Jamaat al-Muslimeen International, an organization based in
U.S.A. which monitors the violations of the human rights of Islamic
prisoners
of conscience.
According to reliable sources, Hassan al-Sarehi is being held in Saudi
Arabia's ar-Ruweis concentration camp outside Jeddah. He has been
subjected
to prolonged torture, sleep deprivation and humiliations of various
kinds.
This is very distressing news for Muslims because Hassan was one of the
heroes of the Afghan Jihad against the Soviet occupation forces in
Afghanistan. In 1987 he gained fame for the defeat his forces inflicted
on
the Soviet army at the battle of Jaaji.
For such a man, who put his life on the frontline to liberate
Afghanistan, to
be imprisoned and tortured in a Saudi prison in indeed shocking.
As you know, Mr. Ambassador, detention without trial and torture are
violations of international law.
Our organization urges you to give Hassan a fair trial, with due
process of
law. For long now he has neither been brough to trial, nor has any
evidence
been brought against him. In the circumstances, the humane thing to do
would
be to release him to his family.
Sincerely
Kaukab Siddique, Ph.D
