Answering the Ignorance of the enemies of Hadith
Rebuttal of the misuse of the Hadith about the people of Uraina
WHAT DO THE
QUR'AN
and HADITH SAY ABOUT ATTEMPTS TO DESTROY A JUST, ISLAMIC
SOCIETY FROM WITHIN? DETERRENT, SEVERE PUNISHMENT
by
Kaukab Siddique,
Ph.D
Agents of western imperialism and
Zionism
have made it a hobby to
spread lies about Hadith in an effort to delink
the Qur'an from the Hadith so
that they can then interpret the Qur'an as they
wish. As a result we have
seen weird stories claiming that
Masjid Aqsa
is not the one in Jerusalem or
that jihad is not armed struggle but
self-purification or that Jihad is not
permitted against hypocrites.
The favorite methodology of these people
working knowingly or
unknowingly for the imperialists is to select one
Hadith totally out of
context and then to claim: how could the Prophet
(pbuh) have said this!
Although the Qur'an is replete with verses urging
the believers to deal
harshly and ruthlessly with the oppressors, and
the Hadith only endorses and
explains the Qur'an, these agent-types try to
claim that Hadith alone is
harsh against the oppressors and the Prophet
(pbuh) could not have taught
anything like that.
Let us first look at HOW THE QUR'AN DEALS with
those WHO TRY TO DESTROY
ISLAMIC SOCIETY WHICH IS JUSTLY ESTABLISHED by
the consent of the people. The
Qur'an says:
"The punishment of those who wage war against
Allah and His messenger, and
strive with might and main for disruption and
mischief through the land is:
execution, or crucifixion, or the cutting off of
hands and feet from opposite
sides, or exile from the land: That is their
disgrace in this world, and a
heavy punishment is theirs in the Hereafter;
except for those who repent
before they fall into your power: In that case,
know that Allah is
Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful." (5:33-34)
Notice that no one can literally "wage war
against Allah." Allah by
definition is too powerful for any such thing. As
the Hadith literature
shows, war against Allah is war against the
Prophet (pbuh) [which is
literally impossible once the Prophet has passed
away] and hence this term
means war against the Islamic system, such as by
blasphemy, treachery and
cultural imperialism of the Salman Rushdie type.
The enemies try to enter the Muslim
community by winning its trust and
then attack it from within. That is disruption
and mischief. The punishments
are:
1. Execution.
2. Crucifixion
3. Cutting off hands and feet from opposite
directions.
4. Exile
And then they are not cleansed of their sins as
in other punishments but will
also be punished in the Hereafter. The way to
repentance is to repent BEFORE
the Islamic forces get hold of the disrupters.
As is obvious, the Qur'an has to be
explained by the Hadith and the
rulings of khulafa and scholars so as to
delineate WHICH punishment will go
for which crime. Will crucifixion follow
execution, to make an example of the
disrupters, or is it a separate punishment?
Similarly with cutting off of
hands and feet from opposite directions. Should
those so punished be given
treatment or are they to die as a result of this
punishment? Which crime
should be punished by exile?
[We also need Hadith to know that 5:33 does not
apply to the external enemies
of Islam, the unbelievers, but to the internal
disruptionists.]
Is it not strange that the "Qur'an only"
people DO NOT begin with the
Qur'an in the case of severe punishments? Instead
they begin with a Hadith
about the punishment meted out to the people of
Urainah. The hadith is as
follows:
Some people of the tribe of 'Ukl and 'Uraina
arrived at Medina to meet the
Prophet and embraced Islam and said, "O Allah's
Prophet! We are the owners of
milch livestock (i.e. bedouins) and not farmers
(i.e. countrymen)." They
found the climate of Medina unsuitable for them.
So Allah's Apostle ordered
that they should be provided with some milch
camels and a shepherd and
ordered them to go out of Medina and to drink the
camels' milk and urine (as
medicine) So they set out and when they reached
Al-Harra, they reverted to
Heathenism after embracing Islam, and killed the
shepherd of the Prophet and
drove away the camels. When this news reached the
Prophet, he sent some
people in pursuit of them. (So they were caught
and brought back to the
Prophet). The Prophet gave his orders in their
concern. So their eyes were
branded with pieces of iron and their hands and
legs were cut off and they
were left away in Harra till they died in that
state of theirs. (See Hadith
234 Vol 1)
These people pretended to have become Muslims,
won the trust of the Islamic
community, and then committed:
i. treachery,
ii. murder
iii. and banditry.
As a result, they were severely punished.
Even their eyes were reportedly
gouged out and they were left to die in the
desert. When a small community is
being infiltrated by enemies who want to destroy
it from within, anyone who
wants the community to survive has to give
deterrent punishment which makes
academics cringe. [Look at what is happening in
America, people killing their
own children, murdering their wives, indulging in
child pornography: these
people need the punishments mentioned in the
Qur'an.]
The question arises, why is the destruction
of the bandits' eyes
additional in the Hadith when it is only
crucifixion or amputation of arms
and legs in the Qur'an? The answer is that the
hadith relates to an event
BEFORE the verse, 5:33, was revealed:
"Hummam narrates from Qatada who narrates from
Ibn Sirin that the event
concerning the people of Uraina occurred BEFORE
the revelation of hudood
punishments in the Qur'an."
[For those desirous of studying the issue in
detail, see Ahkamul Qur'an vol.
4., written by Abu Bakr al-Jasas (d. 370) which
is now available in Arabic
with Urdu translation by Abdul Qayyum, published
in 1999 by the Sharia
academy of the International Islamic University
in Islamabad, Pakistan.]
Gradual changes in society, along with
gradual revelation of the
Qur'an, was brought about by the Prophet Muhammad
(pbuh). Where he was
loving, kind, generous and forgiving, he also
knew that the Islamic community
has to be defended against enemies who will
strike from outside and within.
When treachery, murder and inner disruption
appears, it must be suppressed;
otherwise the community cannot survive.
Once the fear of death and deterrent
punishment had been put into the
hearts of the treacherous one, the Prophet's
(pbuh) Hadith forbade all
mutilation. Again, step by step change.
----------------------------------
We should praise Imam Bukhari's honesty that
he collected a Hadith
because it had proper chains of narration
although it had been abrogated.
Thus we know that our great scholars like Bukhari
did not hide anything.
----------------------------------------
Another aspect of this Hadith which
delights the enemies of Islam and
the ignorant munkareene Hadith is the reference
to the drinking of urine.
Again, the ignorant ones did not read the Hadith
carefully. Let me teach
them, although they come as challengers, fools
that they are, instead of
students:
i. Both Qur'an and Hadith contain materials about
the beginnings of the era
of Islam when things which were removed later
were still prevalent. For
instance, the Qur'an did not right away ban the
drinking of alcohol and
gambling:
"They ask thee concerning intoxicants and
gambling. Say: In them is great sin
and some profit for people, but the sin is
greater than the profit." (2:219)
The ban on intoxicants and gambling came in
5:90-91.
The same gradualism is true about women whom
men kept without marriage
"those whom your right hands possess." The same
is true of RIBA or interest.
There is no prohibition of Muta' (temporary
marriage) in the Qur'an which
went on for a long time till the Prophet (pbuh)
banned it completely. (Ibn
Abbas, r.a., believed that it had not been
banned.)
Similarly people believed that the urine of
camels (not all urine) was
beneficial and that is reflected in this Hadith.
ii. Note that the Prophet (pbuh) is not
commanding the believers to drink
urine but only pointing to the chance given for
recuperation to one group,
the people of Uraina.
iii. There are numerous Hadith which teach that
urine even in small droplets
is not tolerable for Muslims. There are strict
rules of hygiene taught by the
Prophet (pbuh). Anyone who is honest in his
studies can see the Hadith
segments on urine and cleanliness to see this
fact.
iv. None of the collectors or scholars of Hadith,
then or now, have seen the
Urainah hadith as an argument in favor of
drinking urine. In fact Imam
Bukhari has set this section heading for his
collection of Hadith about
staying away from urine:
"One of the major sins is not to protect oneself
from being soiled by one's
urine." His collection includes this powerful
hadith:
"From Ibn Abbas (r.a): The Prophet, pbuh, once
passed by two graves and said:
These two persons are being punished for not
avoiding a big sin. One of them
did not save himself from being soiled with his
urine, while the other used
to go about with calumnies, spreading bad blood
between people...." (Sahih
Al-Bukhari Vol.1, #217)
Based on Hadith, pious Muslims have built
the entire culture of
cleanliness and staying away from urine. [Salman
Rushdie tried to ridicule
Muslims for being obsessed with water and
washing.] What liars these
munkareene hadith are that they try to tear one
narration out of context to
claim that Hadith teaches the drinking of urine!
These munkareene are
slanderers. They are not interested in discussion
but in systematic abuse of
the Prophet's Hadith.
I sincerely urge people like Shahid Mahmud and
the Pervezis to repent and
re-join the fold of Islam. Your kufr against the
Hadith of the Prophet (pbuh)
will only make you more and more a tool of the
Zionists and the imperialists.
A brother on this forum used harsh language for
Shahid when he tried to
insult hazrat Ali (r.a) and the ahlul bait
(r.a.). Shahid has to learn that
Shahid's father is not the only person on the
planet who deserves respect.
Shahid told brazen lies about:
1. Hazrat Abu Huraira (r.a.)
2. All narrators of hadith.
3. All scholars of hadith.
4. Imam Bukhari in particular.
5. Imam Ghazali (in a total concoction taken from
Imam Ghazali's attack on
fabricators).
6. Maulana Maudoodi.
7. Mujahideen.
8. Martyrs of Islam.
Before Shahid starts his dirty game again, I
invite him to join me in saying:
‘O Allah forgive our sins; help us to follow the
commands of Allah in the
Qur'an as explained by the authentic hadith. O
Allah if we have said anything
which gives the impression of disrespect for the
sahaba and the ahlul bait,
forgive us and accept our sincere repentance.
Help us to stand united against
the Zionists and the imperialists and help us to
stay away from cooperation
with oppressors."
[Ameen, summa aameen]
