Jamaat al-Muslimeen International Press Release
There was an abusive attack on the personality of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) at
the Feminist Expo held in Baltimore March 31-April 2. Fortunately Sis. Riffat
Hassan was there and wrote a strong rebuttal, with full support of Muslim
women there.
Dr. Hassan was interviewed at length by Kaukab Siddique (New
Trend magazine) and Shahid Mahmud (Pakistan Forum) after the conference. She
provided invaluable information which indicates that under the banner of
women's rights, a massive, well-funded campaign is underway to slander Islam
and to secularize and mislead Pakistani and other Muslim women. The attack
from the west is becoming effective because many Muslims do oppress women,
women are being mistreated and abused and religious organizations have done
little to stop the injustices.
Jamaat al-Muslimeen practises equality between women and men at all
levels of decision-making. We urge other Muslim groups to re-evaluate their
attitudes and bring them closer to Islam. The following books broke the
ground in the 20th century in the study of Islamic equality. They have gone
through FOUR editions. Some copies are still available:
