Muslims in the Land of First Hijrah Face Death by Starvation
The situation in Ethiopia's hinterland is serious to the extent
that several hundred thousand people are facing death by starvation and
lack of basic necessities of life. Millions are facing disease and
malnutrition.
We urge a united front to help the people of Ethiopia.
We need to collect funds, medicines, vitamins, canned foods and send
them to Ethiopia. To facilitate the mobilization of public opinion and
the work needed to be done, a basic committee has been set up. Its initial
members are:
1. Sis. Saida (Montreal)
2. Sis. Yasmeen (Baltimore)
3. Br. Awel (Addis Ababa)
4. Dr. Kaukab Siddique (coordinator)
The committee will be called: Emergency in Ethiopia Committee.
It will be strictly:
i. non-tribal
ii. Non-sectarian
iii. non-regional
iv. It will be willing to work with other groups involved in Ethiopian relief.
We urge other concerned brothers and sisters to join
the Committee. As Muslims, we cannot sit quietly, eating every day,
while mass death by starvation is facing millions in Ethiopia.
