THOUGHT OF THE DAY
Muslim culture worldwide is based on the
Hadith
of the Prophet Muhammad
(pbuh). Take for instance this Hadith:
"Eat with your right hand." [Sahih Muslim.]
It implies:
i. Hygiene.
ii. Manners.
iii. Community
[Use of the left hand for genetic or medical
reasons is exempt.]

MOVING FORWARD WITH
IMAM JAMIL's
CAUSE
On May 23, 2003
Br. Kaukab Siddique
spoke to
a gathering of more than
1,000 people after Juma' prayers at a mosque in
the
Chicago
area which has the
largest gathering of Muslim immigrants. In his
brief statement, Br. Kaukab made
these points:
1. Imam Jamil al-Amin is the top Islamic leader
of the Muslims of
America,
one of the very few not coopted by those in
power.
2. He has been unjustly sentenced, is being
mistreated in prison, kept in
solitary confinement and denied the religious
rights which all prisoners are
supposed to have.
3. For the sake of Muslim unity, it is essential
that immigrant Muslims
support a leader who is African-American. If the
indigenous and the immigrant each
go their own way, both groups will be helpless.
4. NEW TREND has the most information anywhere
in America on Imam Jamil. Go

al-Amin. Read it and help the cause.
On May 25, Sis. Karima al-Amin, wife of
Imam Jamil al-Amin, was
interviewed on WOL radio [1450 AM in Washington
and 1010 AM Baltimore, plus on Exim
radio] by Wilmer Leon of the On With Leon show.
The interview which lasted for an hour
seems to have gone very well.
Sis. Karima, herself an attorney, who has seen
all the aspects of Imam Jamil's
struggle over many years, through his
transformation from H. Rap Brown to Imam
Jamil Jamil Abdullah al-Amin, spoke eloquently
and effectively.
She managed to give the audience a good
idea of the complexity and
courage of the man known as Jamil al-Amin. Sis.
Karima is indeed a great woman, so
suitable a comrade and companion for such a
great struggler, for truth and
against
racism.
New Trend thanks Wilmer Leon for the
generosity of his spirit in
providing this important forum to a voice in the
Islamic community which represents
resistance and honor, rather than cooperation
with power and tyranny which is
the hallmark of many others who claim to be
Muslims.

IMPORTANT NEWS:
May 27, 2003.
MADINA,
the city of the Prophet Muhammad
(pbuh): Saudi police, armed by the U.S., carried out a raid on a group of
Muslims who had come out of Zuhr prayers. Eight of the Muslims were
arrested. News of the event are still coming out in U.S.
media.
First
reports indicate that the Saudis opened fire on the suspects allegedly
linked to the attacks on U.S. interests in Riyadh. It's not clear yet if
the 8 had come out of the Mosque of the Prophet (pbuh). It appears to be a
major act of desecration against Islam.
MAY 20-24, 2003.
INDIA
LAUNCHED A MAJOR OFFENSIVE AGAINST
KASHMIRI
FREEDOM FIGHTERS,
after having gained the support of
Pakistan's
Musharraf and the okay of the
U.S. Large Indian
army forces, supported by helicopter gun ships, went
into action. The purpose seems to be to disarm the
Kashmiris and then
start "talks" somewhat in the style of
Israel's
Sharon.
