Columbia. He was also wanted in India, where the government
accused him of masterminding a bombing in the Sikh-majority
state of Punjab, training terrorists and supporting a banned

When Hardeep Singh Nijjar died at age 45 on June 18, he was
running a plumbing business in a Vancouver suburb and
serving as president of a gurdwara, the Punjabi word for
Sikh temple. According to police reports, Nijjar died
outside the temple from multiple gunshot wounds while inside
his pickup truck. Police said two heavy-set men, in face
coverings, fled the scene in a Silver 2008 Toyota Camry with
the help of a third suspect. All three suspects remain at

ISIS continues its operations in areas under the control of
the Autonomous Administration, which are mainly manifested
in armed attacks and assassinations through gunfire, attacks
with sharp tools and planting IEDs and landmines. Those
operations are met with routine security campaigns by Syrian
Democratic Forces (SDF), backed by the International
Coalition, targeting ISIS members, cells and affiliates.
However, those campaigns have failed so far to curb the
escalating activity by the organisation and its affiliated
cells in SDF-held areas.

SEPTEMBER 23: A DAY OF INFAMY

Pakistani scientist Dr. Aafia Siddiqui has been held longer
than Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn was in Russia's Gulag. She has
been imprisoned longer than Russian physicist Andrei
Sakharov was in (internal) exile. She has been held about
the same length of time as well-known Chinese physician and
pro-democracy leader Wang Bingzhang. In fact, like Aafia,
Bingzhang was abducted in one country, then taken to another
for a kangaroo court trial, convicted, and effectively
buried by his captors.
In Bingzhang's case, the U.S. registered vociferous protests
against the Chinese government. And yet, the U.S. continues
to allow the torture and detention of Dr. Aafia
Siddiqui.
Not one person died or was injured in the incident in
Ghazni, Afghanistan, in which Aafia was charged. In fact,
she should never have been in Afghanistan in the first
place. Aafia was kidnapped by Pakistani and U.S.
intelligence services, and forcibly taken there from
Pakistan- in violation of international law. In other words,
if international rules and norms had not been trashed by the
security agencies in question, the (concocted) incident for
which Aafia was charged would not have arisen.
And yet, on September 23, 2010, the MIT alum was sentenced
to 86 years in prison. A brilliant scholar, with innovative
ideas to uplift Pakistan's education system, she continues
to languish at FMC Carswell, where other political
prisoners, eg Lynne Stewart and Reality Winner, have also
been held.
Does the U.S. have no shame in continuing to hold this
innocent woman scientist/ educator, all the while protesting
the detention of scientists, writers and academics in other
countries? Today on this day of infamy, September 23, we say
"Free Aafia Siddiqui now! Free all political prisoners!"
The Ill Effects of Gentrification

Over four decades ago, community activists predicted a time
when White flight from urban areas would reverse and it
would become White flight back to urban areas.
I remember witnessing an event that was the first sign of
gentrification in New York City. It was a late night in June
1998 and I saw a yellow cab drop off a Black passenger!
Anyone familiar with yellow cab driver behavior back then
would understand my shock because yellow cabs were not
driving into predominantly Black areas let alone picking up
Black fares. What really compelled them to play fair in the
fare game was their number one nemesis: Uber.
Fast forward to 2023, and there have been significant
changes as a result of gentrification. None of these changes
are positive:
Major companies swooped in and ran out Black family-owned
businesses.
White American gay male couples were the first occupants
who descended upon Harlem.
Even the affordable housing being built is for
income-earners in the low $100,000s!
But, the most imposing and most offensive behavior is the
increase in defiant dog owner behavior.
All over America, dog ownership has increased significantly.
And, people don't have just one dog. They must have two or
three dogs. The need to own a dog permeates all cultures,
now. A few years ago, elderly women were pulling wagons with
dogs, that were just as elderly, in them. Now, young girls
are pushing healthy puppies in carriages made for pets. I
can now distinguish a dog carriage from a baby carriage!
Dogs used to be tied up outside grocery stores while their
owners shopped inside but, not anymore. Defiantly, these,
mostly White, dog owners walk their dogs on leashes around
the store. Interestingly, many of the non-White store clerks
don't enforce New York State Law or their own store's policy
prohibiting these unsanitary violations.
Dogs are supposed to be in a carrier when traveling in
public transportation: cabs, trains, and buses. But, there
has been an increase in unrestrained dog ridership. It is
very dangerous, especially on the trains.
In America, dogs have been personified just as rats have
among the Hindus in India. The only difference is a shrine
hasn't been built for dogs, yet! Even law enforcement
agencies elevated their dogs to officer status.
Gentrification has exposed racist ideologies observed
throughout America. In predominantly Black areas, Tarzan is
not dead. Black elected officials have been culpable in the
effort to gentrify and relinquish control in their
districts.

Why the Holocaust Matters
The Holocaust is a topic that everyone knows something
about. It's a topic that none of us can avoid, like it or
not. The reason for this is the fact that it is the single
most influential historical topic of the modern world. For
sure, other modern-day genocides happened, and most people
can probably name a few.
But unless your country or ethnic group has been either a
victim or a perpetrator of that genocide, these other,
foreign genocides basically never play a role in domestic
daily politics or social interactions. Most of them will
never make it beyond a brief mention on a school's syllabus,
if at all, and hardly any of them have dedicated museums and
memorials. No one cares if we remember, forget, ignore or
even deny these foreign events, or whether we pay tribute to
their victims or disrespect them.
However, no one in any position of societal or political
prominence can afford to ignore, disrespect, or "deny" the
Holocaust. If they did, they would not be prominent for much
longer. In fact, anyone can lose their job if they violate
this last taboo of Western societies. Many countries have
made "denying the Holocaust" a crime, which means you can
even end up in prison. Only one genocide in the history of
mankind ever reached such prominence that it has a worldwide
memorial day dedicated to it: January 27, which the United
Nations has declared as the world's Holocaust Remembrance
Day.
Therefore, the Holocaust matters. That being so, it is
important that we understand what it was, and what it was
not, lest we might be manipulated by people who want to take
advantage of our ignorance. This includes extremists on
both sides of the spectrum: those who deny what has been
solidly demonstrated to be true, and those who want us to
believe that which has been proven to be untrue.
If a topic has huge importance in society, then it is hugely
important to understand it. The purpose of the present
encyclopedia is to assist the reader in better understanding
what exactly the Holocaust was. It is meant to serve as a
reference book for all those who do not wish to search
through stacks of books just to find one small piece of the
larger puzzle.

Sit down Strike in front of Governor's House

LAHORE: September 23: Jamaat-e-Islami Emir Siraj-ul-Haq has
addressed the sit-in protest in front of Governor House on
the third and last day on Saturday, demanding the government
provide relief to the poor and bring down prices of
electricity, petrol, gas and other basic need items.
The caretakers, he said, lacked mandate for raising power
tariff, instead their job was to ensure peaceful environment
for free and fair polls.
The JI would start sit-in in front of Quetta Governor House
on Sunday (today), he said, vowing to persist in the
struggle until the rights of the people are duly addressed.
The protest movement is part of the JI's ongoing campaign
against inflation. It already held protest rallies in
different cities of southern Punjab, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad
besides staging a three-day sit-in in front of Peshawar
Governor House.
Haq appealed to the Chief Justice to take action against
IPPs agreements which were the main reason behind high
tariff. He called for making public the agreements with the
Independent Power Producers (IPPs), saying they had been
signed to protect the interests of the companies and by
taking kick-backs. Former ruling parties, he said, took
benefits from the contracts and no one was ready to hold
them accountable, he added. The JI chief said the nation had
great hopes from the current CJP.
He said the previous five years brought destruction in every
sector. The PDM and the PPP government 16-month tenure was
the continuation of the PTI rule, he said, adding those who
had led rallies against hikes in prices eventually
multiplied the inflation after coming into power.
He lamented that the government had sought approval from the
International Monetary Fund (IMF) even to allow struggling
consumers to pay their hefty bills in installments,
asserting that the nation's sovereignty had been compromised
a
t the hands of international lending agencies and foreign
powers.
Haq urged the government to shift its focus from sending
high bills to consumers towards addressing the billions lost
due to line losses and power theft. He pointed out that the
ruling elite benefited from free electricity, resulting in
significant losses to the national treasury, while the
burden fell on the impoverished citizens.
He said instead of moon and start, the begging bowl had
become national symbol and it was due to flawed policies of
the previous governments. He said the JI was the only hope
and it would transform Pakistan into welfare state if voted
to power.

(Friday) and all the other people are behind us in this
respect: the Jews' (holy day is) tomorrow (i.e. Saturday)
and the Christians' (is) the day after tomorrow (i.e.

Israeli Speech Slammed
IPalestine slammed as "hateful" a speech Israeli Prime
Minister Benjamin Netanyahu gave on Friday at the United
Nations.
Addressing the UN General Assembly in New York, Netanyahu
said Israel was on the "cusp" of normalising ties with Saudi
Arabia and that Palestinians shouldn't get to "veto" the
move.
He also displayed two maps that showed the occupied
Palestinian territory - the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and
the Gaza Strip - as being part of Israel.
"The State of Palestine rejects in the strongest terms the
provocative and hateful speech delivered by [the] Israeli
prime minister," the Palestinian foreign ministry said on X,
formerly Twitter.
"From the podium of the United Nations, Israel's prime
minister confirmed, yet again, the colonial designs of his
government and the objectives of Israel's illegal
occupation: the forcible and violent annexation of the
Palestinian homeland and negation of the presence and rights
of the Palestinian people, including their rights to
self-determination and return.
"The international community must firmly reject and condemn
Israel's racist denigration of the Palestinian people and
its vehement denial of their roots in the land - an
indigenous, centuries-old presence borne out by
history."
One of the maps used by Netanyahu claimed to show Israel in
1948, the year it was created alongside a bloody campaign of
ethnic cleansing that saw over 700,000 Palestinians expelled
from their homes.
"Here's Israel in 1948. It's a tiny country, isolated,
surrounded by a hostile Arab world," he said.
"In our first 70 years, we made peace with Egypt and Jordan,
and then in 2020 we made the Abraham Accords - peace with
another four Arab states.
"Now look at what happens when we make peace between Saudi
Arabia and Israel."
Netanyahu then turned the first map around to display a new
one, saying: "The whole Middle East changes. We tear down
the walls of enmity."
The second map was titled "The New Middle East". The
occupied Palestinian territory was again shown as part of
Israel but this time Arab states that have normalised ties
with the Israelis, including Egypt, the UAE and Sudan were
coloured in green.

BEIJING — A prominent Uyghur scholar specializing in
the study of her people's folklore and traditions has been
sentenced to life in prison, according to a U.S.-based
foundation that works on human rights cases in China.
Rahile Dawut was convicted on charges of endangering state
security in December 2018 in a secret trial, the San
Francisco-based Dui Hua Foundation said in a statement
Thursday. Dawut appealed but her conviction was upheld, the
foundation said.
"The sentencing of Professor Rahile Dawut to life in prison
is a cruel tragedy, a great loss for the Uyghur people, and
for all who treasure academic freedom," John Kamm, executive
director of the Dui Hua Foundation, said in a statement.

Abusive remarks by BJP MP Ramesh Bhiduri against a Muslim
MP, Kunwar Danish speaks volumes of what kind of training
they have been getting as part of their political and social
campaigns. But he will soon realize that the abusive words
(like Mulla and the word he used for "circumcised") he used
are in fact derivatives of the great words that mark the
Islamic system of Holistic Health and Holistic Peace.
"Mullas"(Molvi being the original word) are the experts of
Islam that teach about the practices that bring peace in
this world as well as in Hereafter. These teachings prohibit
everything (Pork, Alcohol, Drugs) and every practice (Sex
outside a proper male-female marriage, murders, thefts,
corruption of all kinds including exploitative economic
practices) and promote everything good including prayers,
fasting, charity, campaign against evil practices, etc. In
this article, I will focus on the practice of circumcision
and why it has been gaining huge acceptance throughout the
world in recent times.
Circumcision is becoming increasingly popular due to the
evidence accumulating that it has a very strong protective
effect against all sex transmitted diseases including AIDS
as well as HPV related Cervical Cancer. It also prevents
Cancer of Penis. A report from Africa says:
"As hospital wards overflow, avoiding HIV has become a
consuming concern for Swazis. Since the South African report
appeared saying that circumcised men are 60 percent less
likely to contract HIV, the shift in Swazi attitudes toward
circumcision -- once widely viewed as unmanly -- has been
dramatic and swift....Hospitals that once rarely performed
circumcisions have recently been doing 10 to 15 a week, with
two-month waiting lists. A physician with a radio show has
called on his listeners to have the surgery, which removes
the foreskin and along with it the cells most vulnerable to
HIV. A lawmaker has advocated the procedure in a speech to
parliament and demanded that the government increase
capacity and subsidies for it.....The South African study
was the first to experimentally test the effectiveness of
circumcision in preventing HIV, but dozens of studies have
shown that infection rates are far higher in regions with
low circumcision rate".
The Scientific fraternity is usually not sympathetic towards
religion. But increasingly greater numbers of medical
experts have argued in favour of circumcision. In the US,
circumcision enjoyed great popularity in the last century.
But after 1999, when the American Academy of Paediatrics
issued a policy statement saying the potential medical
benefits of neonatal circumcision weren't strong enough to
recommend it as a routine procedure, the popularity
declined. The group shifted its stance however again
recently saying newer studies indicate the health benefits
of circumcision do outweigh the risks and that parents
should be told of its protective effects.
Ronald Gray, a Physician and Professor in the Johns Hopkins
Bloomberg School of Public Health, makes the case in favour
of neonatal circumcision. Here are a few excerpts from his
article," Yes: The Benefits Are Many, While the Risks Are
Few" .
"The health benefits of newborn male circumcision outweigh
the risks, and the procedure should be accessible to all
families who want it. So said a task force convened by the
American Academy of Paediatrics to review the latest
scientific evidence on circumcision and update the group's
policy stance...Here are the facts, based on published,
peer-reviewed and independently monitored studies
"The benefits of circumcision that accrue during childhood
include a marked reduction in urinary-tract infections,
which affect one in 100 uncircumcised boys, mainly during
the first two years of life, and inflammation or infection
under the foreskin, which affects around 17 in 100
uncircumcised boys before the age of 8. Circumcision reduces
the risk of these problems by around 60%. In adulthood,
circumcision has been shown to reduce the risk of HIV
infection in men by 50% to 60%, and is now recommended by
the World Health Organization as an HIV prevention
strategy.......Circumcision also lowers the risk of
acquiring herpes infection and genital ulcers in men. It
reduces infection with human papilloma viruses, or HPV, in
both men and their female partners. HPV is one of the most
common sexually transmitted infections in the U.S., causing
cervical, penile and anal cancers and genital warts. Female
partners of circumcised men have lower rates of vaginal
infections and genital ulcers...... Circumcision doesn't
impair sexual potency or pleasure, according to randomized
controlled trials. These studies are considered the most
credible because they compare men who are circumcised at
random versus men who aren't, and the men who are
circumcised during the trial can assess whether their
pleasure or potency is affected by the procedure.
In short, infant male circumcision has lifelong health
benefits that outweigh the immediate risks, and parents
should be counselled so they can decide what is best for
their child."
I happened to be the first in the world to argue in my book,
"Islamic Model for Control of Aids" (published in 1995) that
circumcision should be included in aids control programmes.
The WHO accepted this twelve years later. According to
reports, in 2007, the WHO reviewed the totality of evidence
concerning male circumcision and HIV, and issued the
following joint recommendations with UNAIDS.
Male circumcision should now be recognized as an
efficacious intervention for HIV prevention.
Promoting male circumcision should be recognized as an
additional, important strategy for the prevention of
heterosexually acquired HIV infection in men.
Circumcision should only be performed after informed
consent.
Kim Dickson, coordinator of the working group that authored
the report, commented:
Male circumcision "would have greatest impact" in
countries where the HIV infection rate among heterosexual
males is greater than 15 percent and fewer than 20 percent
of males are circumcised.
WHO further recommends that the procedure must be done by
a trained health care professional.
And the role of circumcision in preventing Cancer of Cervix
in females is now beyond doubt. Nore than 3 lakhh (three
hundred thousands) women dies of Cancer Cervix in the world
every year, and it is extremely rare in women having
circumcised partners. In India a report by National
Institute of Health says,
"Around 453 million Indian women aged 15 years and above are
at risk of developing cancer. Estimates from the HPV
information centre show that 96922 women are diagnosed with
cervical cancer every year, and 60078 of them die of this
disease in the country."
It is important to know that Cancer Cervix has extremely low
incidence in Muslim women.
Interestingly, following the publication of my book in 1995,
Shiv Sena Supremo, Late Bal Thakre talked of introducing
"Hindu Khatna" suggesting circumcision with the condition
that there should be some distinguishing feature to
recognise Hindus.
Now, it is time for people like Bhiduri and his well-wishers
to think about accepting circumcision as a highly useful
practice or continue to target Muslims for adopting this gem
of a practice. Instead of throwing Muslim MPs out, they
should invite them to give presentation on Beneficial
