From Imam Badi Ali [Jamaat al-Muslimeen North Carolina]
Spotlight 1: Western powers claim the right to hit their
perceived opponents all over the world, Muslim or
non-Muslim, with all their power and resources. They use
drones, jet fighters, B-52s, tanks, heavy artillery, night
vision, intelligence agencies, billions of dollars, world
wide media, everything. In sharp contrast, they condemn any
Muslim who fights back and label all fighters as monsters.
Are our Muslim communities beginning to accept the labels of
our enemies?
Condolences to a pious family:
Personal: In Detroit Sis. Rafia, the great woman behind the
scholar of Maulana Maudoodi's writings Asim Husain, passed away.
asalamu alaikum
Inna Lillahe wa inna alaihi rajeun
She suffered a lot. May Allah grant her jannat al-firdaus.
She was a great woman, very quiet but very generous and
selfless. Never asked for a return for her kindness. It is
the quality of RAHM from which come the words Rahman and
Raheem.
During my visits, she was so kind, I could hardly believe
that there are people like her in this cruel world.
May Allah give sabr and istaqamah to Dr. Asim, Rafe and Saad
and all the other relatives.

Latest War News: Pakistan
Indian Hand at Work: Bomb Attacks on Women and Children in
Lahore and Peshawar
New Trend's Pakistan observers and researchers have
concluded that three levels of conflict have emerged in
Pakistan.
1. Pakistani military forces at the orders of the US and
NATO have been attacking Islamic communities supporting
Pakistani Taliban and al-Qaidah. Entire populations have
been affected by the military in Swat, Dir, Momand, Buner,
Adam Khel, South Waziristan, North Waziristan, Orakzai,
etc.
2. Pakistani Taliban counterattacking Pakistani military,
are hitting very selectively at Generals, senior officers,
air force elements on the ground, intelligence branch,
special commando forces, special police and para militaty
units like FC trained by the US.
3. Mysterious forces at work to destabilize Pakistan as a
country. A series of GENERAL attacks on civilians at random
have occurred. These attacks cannot benefit the Islamic
forces and have been categorically condemned by the Taliban
and al-Qaida. Blackwater and Indian intelligence agency
known as RAW are high in the list of suspects.
The December 7 attack on an open shopping market in Lahore's
Moon Bazaar is deemed an Indian attack aimed at terrorizing
ordinary citizens. Nawaz Sharif, Muslim League leader whose
major constituency is Lahore, has not blamed the Taliban, as
the government tried to do, but has expressed strong
suspicion that India is involved.
India's key city Mumbai was attacked a year back by Fidayeen
taking revenge for Indian army's occupation tactics in
Kashmir. Lahore's Moon Bazar attack seems to be India's
sneak response.
Pakistanis also see Blackwater at work in the random attacks
on civilians in Peshawar.
General Kayani's bombing of mosques, medressas, Imams'
homes, torture of village elders may have had the
consequence of the Punjabi Taliban hunting Kayani's
generals and officers in their own HQ and their "mosque."
Anti-military observers say that these generals and officers
are murtadeen [apostates] and their "mosque" is masjide
dirar. Whom would the generals be praying to if their god is
America, the Islamic observers say.

Look at New York's Bootlicking Imams. Do they know Islam?
Siraj Wahhaj shook Mayor Bloomberg's Hand: The Jew felt insulted
by Sis. Aisha [Jamaat al-Muslimeen New York City]
This week on NY1, a local cable news station, a reporter
will be interviewing Muslims in Queens to shed some light on
how they are dealing with being Muslim in America. I wrote
my point of view on a particularly disturbing piece titled:
Muslim In NYC: Queens Imams Speak Out Against
Terrorism.
New York City - NY1 is a local New York City cable news
network. Reporter Ruschelle Brown is doing special report
this week called Muslims in NYC. Most of the segments, so
far, focus on Muslim activists informing Muslim food vendors
about their rights should an FBI or Immigration agent
approach them. Another segment spotlights Muslims fears of
harassment in the wake of the Najibullah Zazi's arrest.
During the Muslim in NYC: Queens Imams Speak Out Against
Terrorism segment, it is reported that over 200 Imams, from
a New York area council, meet to discuss strategies for
detecting radical muslims. This group of 200 Imams does not
have a name. They encourage each other to be on the look
out for mysterious packages and large, anonymous donations.
Many of these Imams, such as Imam Mohammed Azeem Khan of
Masjid Omar Ben-Abdel-Aziz, proudly proclaim their strong
working relationship with the FBI. Imam Charles Aziz Bilal,
of Masjid-Al-Hamdu-Li-Lah, had security forces remove a
brother for making anti-American comments.
My opinion: There is a serious effort on the part of those
weak-in-faith Imams to go on the offensive. Nothing
fruitful ever comes from working with the devil. Who knows
where these serpents will strike next. Another halal food
vendor's life may be turned upside down with false
accusations.
New York Mayor Mike Bloomberg shook Imam Siraj Wahhaj's
hand, at a recent event, only to express regret upon being
told that the Imam was a character witness for Sheikh Omar
AbdurRahman. This response came in spite of the fact that
many believe Imam Wahhaj did his best to smear the Sheikh's
character. The mayor stated that had he would've never
shaken Imam Wahhaj's hand had he known he was a character
witness for a "terrorist."
So even when these bootlicking Imams leave the fold of
Islamic brotherhood to please their masters their efforts
still go unappreciated. What these Imams are doing is no
different then what other oppressed groups in the U.S. do to
avoid persecution: They run with the wolves in hopes of not
being eaten. Only Allah (swt) is Exalted in Might and Wise.
What the struggling Muslims must keep in mind is that the
only power another human being has over you is the power you
choose to give him/her.
I am not saying that it is easy to be Muslim anywhere,
especially in America. These Imams throw people out of
Mosques and go unchallenged. Rather than for us to allow
these bootlickers to question our deen, we should start
questioning theirs! Whether we question these Imams
directly, through emails, or anonymously, we should let them
know that we are disturbed by their willful cooperation with
our enemies.
In addition to being on the FBI's payroll, most of these
same Imams live off of the Zakat given by Muslims during
Jummah. That is also forbidden by Allah! Why not give
Zakat to an Islamic organization that is using 100% of that
money for a worthy cause, instead? Why give Zakat at a
Mosque where the funds are not being handled according to
the Shariat?
I am pretty sure that once these bootlickers see that the
Zakat box is a little light they will go elsewhere. Stop
supporting Imams who support our enemies efforts to oppress
us!

Sheikh Beitawi slams PA for hosting beauty contest for
Palestinian girls in West Bank
[ 08/12/2009 - 01:16 PM ]
GAZA, (PIC)-- MP Sheikh Hamed Al-Beitawi, the head of the
association of Palestinian scholars, strongly denounced the
Palestinian Authority (PA) for sponsoring a beauty pageant
for Palestinian girls in the West Bank.
In a statement to the Palestinian information center (PIC)
Sheikh Beitawi said that organizing such contests is
contrary to the Islamic values and ethics which calls for
virtue and falls under the blind imitation of non-Muslim
people that is forbidden in the holy book of Quran.
He added that choosing what is called Miss Palestine in the
presence of escalating settlement activities in the West
Bank, Zionist attempts to Judaize occupied Jerusalem and the
blockade on the Gaza Strip reflects the organizers'
disrespect to the suffering and concerns of the Palestinian
people.
The Palestinian scholar stressed that it is not appropriate
for a people under occupation, who have thousands of
prisoners in Israeli jails and struggle for their freedom,
to host such events that promote immorality.
The scholar called on the Palestinian people especially
fathers to reject such events and prevent their daughters
from participating in them.

Booksellers touting their wares amid the heavy traffic in
the Bangladeshi capital, Dhaka, have discovered an unusual
best-seller. Adolf Hitler's autobiography manifesto Mein
Kampf [My Struggle] is selling as well as Dan Brown's latest
novel, The Lost Symbol .. .. Last week, Mein Kampf did
unusually well because many bought the book to give it away
as an Eid present. Mabul, 15, is among many boys who risk
the chaos of Dhaka's roads to earn a living selling pirated
copies of popular paperbacks.. .. "For some reason Hitler's
book is all the rage among educated people - on a typical

West Point military academy in few days .Defintenly we will
be protesting. The academy is only about 25 minutes further

Letter from Humble Islamic Scholar and Teacher: Re: Intro to
Br. Shamim Siddiqui [NT Dec.1 issue]
Mohtram Kaukab Bhai, Asalamu alaikum
Shukrun wa Jazakallah for your kind note about my humble
self. I am not worthy of any praise at all. All praises are
only for Allah (SWT). I am His most humble servant. I beg
everything from Him every night for my daily work and what
He grants in His infinite Mercy I humbly do it. Kindly pray
to "MY GOD" to make me worthy of what you have written and
give me Tawfeeq to accomplish all that is needed for
"TAKBEER -E- RAB" .
Just one correction: kindly note that the word "scholar"
does not suit me at all. I am a very humble student of Islam
since the very beginning of my conscious life in mid forties
and want to remain so till I breathe my last. That will be
the only asset along with all my "JUHD- E - NATAMAM"
[Incomplete and abortive efforts as Allah pronounced in
Verse # 79 of Surah Al-Tawbah] to present to my Lord with
the confidence that He may accept it. The tone of this Ayah
is encouraging like that.
"Yahi kuch hai Saqi Mataaey Faqir <> Esi Sey Faqeeri
mein Hun mayn Amir" [Iqbal]
May Allah bless you immensely with health and Tawfeeq to be
the champion of His Deen in the midst of on-going intense
oppression around us! Kindly convey my best wishes and Du'a
to Sister Jameela.

Bin Laden 'seen in Afghanistan in early 2009'
By Orla Guerin
BBC News, Islamabad
Bin Laden is believed to be somewhere along the
Pakistan-Afghan border
The entire Western intelligence community, CIA and M16, have
been looking for [Osama Bin Laden]for the last seven years,
and haven't come upon a source of information like this
Bruce Riedel
Former CIA analyst
A Taliban detainee in Pakistan claims to have information
about Osama Bin Laden's whereabouts in January or February
of this year. His claims cannot be verified, but a leading
American expert says his account should be investigated.
The detainee claims to have met Osama Bin Laden numerous
times before 9/11.
He claims that in January or February he met a trusted
contact who had seen Bin Laden about 15 to 20 days earlier
in Afghanistan.
"In 2009, in January or February I met this friend of mine.
He said he had come from meeting Sheikh Osama, and he could
arrange for me to meet him," he said.
"He helps al-Qaeda people coming from other countries to get
to the sheikh, so he can advise them on whatever they are
planning for Europe or other places.
"The sheikh doesn't stay in any one place. That guy came
from Ghazni, so I think that's where the sheikh was."
The province of Ghazni in eastern Afghanistan has an
increasingly strong Taliban presence.
Large parts of the province are no-go areas for coalition
and Afghan forces.
He says he declined the invitation to travel to meet Bin
Laden because he was afraid of compromising his security, if
he was captured by the police or the army.
"If I had met him, the first question they would have asked
would be where have you met him, and I would have had more
problems and it would have created problems for them
[al-Qaeda]."
According to a Pakistani security official the detainee has
close ties with leaders of the Taliban in Pakistan and
Afghanistan, and was involved in kidnapping and fund-raising
operations in the north-western city of Peshawar.
The detainee, who cannot be named for legal reasons, said
that militants were avoiding Pakistani territory because of
the risk of US drone attacks.
"Pakistan at this time is not convenient for us to stay in
because a lot of our senior people are being martyred in
drone attacks," he said.
We were given access to him twice in the past month. He
spoke at length and in detail, painting a picture of close
co-operation between the Taliban and al-Qaeda.
A Pakistani interrogator was listening as he spoke.
His account suits Pakistan, which maintains that Bin Laden
is not on its soil, though Britain and the US think
otherwise.
But US counter-terrorism expert Bruce Riedel, a former CIA
analyst, says his story is "a very important lead, that
ought to be tracked down."
"The entire Western intelligence community, CIA and M16,
have been looking for OBL [Osama Bin Laden] for the last
seven years, and haven't come upon a source of information
like this.
"So, if it's true - a big 'if' - this is an extraordinary
and important story," he said.
"We know Osama Bin Laden is alive. We know that he is living
somewhere in the badlands along the border with Pakistan and
Afghanistan.
"What's extraordinary about this story is we have someone
who has come forward and said, really for the first time, 'I
met with Osama Bin Laden and I had the opportunity to met
him again in the recent past'."
Active and healthy
The detainee claims that Bin Laden is well, though there has
been speculation for years that he was in poor health.
"What my associate told me was that he is fresh, and doing
well," he said.
He also claims the al-Qaeda leader is still active, training
instructors who in turn train others.
"The information I have is that he provides training to
special people. There are training centres in homes, and all
the teachers are first trained by the Sheikh. Then they go
and teach the classes."
The detainee's account raises a lot of questions - among
them, what were his motives for talking.
Western interrogators may have lots of questions they would
like to ask, but so far the detainee has been out of their reach.

Gates Invokes New Authority to Block Release of Detainee
Abuse Photos
Saturday 14 November 2009
by: Jason Leopold, t r u t h o u t | Report
Blood on the floor and walls of a cell at Abu Ghraib.
Defense Secretary Robert Gates invoked his new authority to
block images like these from being released under the
Freedom of Information Act. (Photo: Wikicommons)
Secretary of Defense Robert Gates has blocked the release of
photographs depicting US soldiers abusing detainees in Iraq
and Afghanistan, invoking new powers just granted to him by
Congress that allows him to circumvent the Freedom of
Information Act (FOIA) and keep the images under wraps on
national security grounds.
In a brief filed with the US Supreme Court late Friday,
Department of Defense General Counsel Jeh Johnson, and
Solicitor General Elena Kagan, said Gates "personally
exercised his certification authority" on Friday to withhold
the photos and "determined that public disclosure of these
photographs would endanger citizens of the United States,
members of the United States Armed Forces, or employees of
the United States Government deployed outside the United
States."
"Based on that determination, the Secretary has concluded
that the photographs are 'protected documents'" and are
"exempt from mandatory disclosure under FOIA," the
government's brief states.
In his certification included with the filing, Gates said
his decision to withhold as many as 2,000 photos was based
"upon the recommendations of the Chairman of the Joint
Chiefs of Staff [Michael Mullen], the Commander of U.S.
Central Command [David Petraeus], and the Commander of
Multi-National Forces-Iraq [Ray Odierno]..."
As first reported by truthout, the photographs at issue
include one in which a female solider is pointing a broom at
a detainee "as if [she were] sticking the end of a
broomstick into [his] rectum."
Other photos are said to show US soldiers pointing guns at
the heads of hooded and bound detainees in prisons in Iraq
and Afghanistan. The Army's Criminal Investigation Division
investigated the matter and "three of the six investigations
led to criminal charges and in two of those cases, the
accused were found guilty and punished," according to papers
Kagan previously filed with the Supreme Court.
The ACLU filed a FOIA request in 2003 to gain access to
photographs and videos related to the treatment of "war on
terror" prisoners in US custody and sued the government a
year later to enforce the FOIA filing. The US District Court
for the Southern District of New York ordered the release of
the photos in a June 2005 ruling that was affirmed by the US
Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit in September
2008.
The Bush administration challenged the Second Circuit's
ruling, and in March the court denied that petition. In its
earlier ruling, the appeals court also shot down the Bush
administration's attempt to radically expand FOIA exemptions
for withholding the photos, stating that the Bush
administration had attempted to use the FOIA exemptions as
"an all-purpose damper on global controversy."
The Obama administration indicated it would abide by the
appeals court order and release at least 44 of the
photographs in question, but, in May, after he was pilloried
by Republicans, President Obama backtracked, saying he had
conferred with high-ranking military officials who advised
him that releasing the images would stoke anti-American
sentiment and would endanger the lives of US troops in
Afghanistan and Iraq.
As Truthout previously reported, the Obama administration
petitioned the US Supreme Court to hear the case last
summer. The petition raised similar arguments related to
FOIA exemptions in this case as those made by the Bush
administration and later rejected by the Second Circuit.
Justices were prepared to meet and decide whether to take
the case, but the high court agreed last month to delay
their decision at the request of Obama administration
officials who wanted to wait and see if Congress would pass
legislation authorizing the Defense Department to circumvent
FOIA.
In other words, the Obama administration wanted Congress to
pass a law that would effective quash the Second Circuit's
decision. And that's exactly what lawmakers did last month
when they passed the Homeland Security appropriations bill,
signed into law by President Obama, which included a
provision to amend FOIA. The provision gave Gates the power
to withhold "protected documents" he believes would endanger
the lives of US soldiers or government employees deployed
outside of the country if publicly released.
The amendment was originally sponsored by Sens. Joe
Lieberman, (I-Connecticut), and Lindsey Graham, (R-South
Carolina). Obama sent a letter to the lawmakers last summer
stating that he would work closely with Congress to help
pass the measure to keep the abuse photographs sealed,
according to a footnote in the administration's Supreme
Court petition.
Rep. Louise Slaughter, (D-New York), who opposed the FOIA
amendment, said in a floor statement in October as Congress
was debating the provision, that the language, stripped from
an earlier version of the bill, was quietly reinserted
"apparently under direct orders from the [Obama]
administration."
According to the bill, the phrase "protected documents"
refers to photographs taken between September 11, 2001 and
January 22, 2009, and involves "the treatment of individuals
engaged, captured or detained" in the so-called "war on
terror." Photographs that Gates determines would endanger
troops and government employees could be withheld for three
years.
The ACLU said Gates' certification "is categorical with
respect to all of the photos and fails to provide the
individualized assessment that the amendment's language
requires and also fails to provide any basis for the claim
that disclosure of the photos would harm national
security."
The group intends to file a response to the administration's
brief next week.
In an oped column published in the Los Angeles Times last
month, Jameel Jaffer, director of the ACLU's National
Security Project, said although the powers Congress granted
Gates is meant to cover the abuse photos, it "could also
cover, for example, video footage of aerial attacks that
resulted in civilian casualties or photos showing the
conditions of confinement at the Bagram detention center in
Afghanistan."
"The legislation establishes a regime of censorship that
would extend to many images of the military's activities
abroad." Jaffer wrote.
Obama's decision to sign legislation into law that allows
his administration to circumvent FOIA marks an about-face on
the open-government policies that he proclaimed during his
first days in office.
On January 21, Obama signed an executive order instructing
all federal agencies and departments to "adopt a presumption
in favor" of Freedom of Information Act requests, and
promised to make the federal government more
transparent.
"The government should not keep information confidential
merely because public officials might be embarrassed by
disclosure, because errors and failures might be revealed,
or because of speculative or abstract fears," Obama's order
said. "In responding to requests under the FOIA, executive
branch agencies should act promptly and in a spirit of
cooperation, recognizing that such agencies are servants of
the public."
Instead of withdrawing its petition now that legislation has
been passed, the Obama administration on Friday asked the
high court to vacate the Second Circuit's ruling, and then
"remand to allow the lower courts to address the effect of
the new legislation on the litigation."
"Given Congress's enactment of intervening legislation
resolving the present dispute by providing for withholding
of the records at issue, the Court now has no occasion to
address the proper construction of [FOIA] Exemption 7(F) as
set forth in the government's petition," the government's
filing states. "The appropriate disposition, after these
events, is for this Court to [pull the case up from the
Second Circuit and take jurisdiction of the case and the
issue], vacate the judgment of the court of appeals, and
remand for further proceedings... in light of the
intervening legislation" passed by Congress.
In its earlier Supreme Court petition, the Obama
administration argued that FOIA Exemption 7(F) allows for
the withholding of information if it threatens the lives of
individuals.
The Second Circuit, however, disagreed. The court ruled that
FOIA "mandates the public disclosure of such photographs -
regardless of the risk to American lives - because FOIA
Exemption 7(F) requires the government to 'identify at least
one individual with reasonable specificity' and show that
disclosure 'could reasonably be expected to endanger that
individual.'"
The government argued that the Second Circuit misinterpreted
the law when it ruled that the government had to identify
specific individuals who would be harmed by the disclosure
of the photographs
The Obama administration maintained that the Second
Circuit's interpretation of Exemption 7(F), "is inconsistent
with the text of Exemption 7(F), which broadly encompasses
danger to 'any individual,' with no suggestion of the
court's extra-textual requirement of victim specificity. The
history of drafting that exemption "underscores that
conclusion. Congress did not mean for public disclosure of
agency records to trump the life and physical safety of
individuals - particularly in a case such as this, in which
the government has already made public the underlying
investigative reports revealing all relevant allegations of
wrongdoing and the associated investigative
conclusions."
"The President and the United States military fully
recognize that certain photographs at issue depict
reprehensible conduct by American personnel and warranted
disciplinary action," the government's petition states.
"There are neither justifications nor excuses for such
conduct by members of the military. But the fact remains
that public disclosure of the photographs could reasonably
be expected to endanger the lives and physical safety of
individuals engaged in the Nation's military operations in
Iraq and Afghanistan. The photographs therefore are exempt
from mandatory disclosure under FOIA. Review by this Court
is warranted to give effect to Exemption 7(F) and the
protection it affords to the personnel whose lives and
physical safety would be placed at risk by disclosure."
Alex Abdo, a legal fellow with the ACLU's National Security
Project, said the Obama administration's argument for
continuing to suppress the photos "sets a dangerous
precedent - that the government can conceal evidence of its
own misconduct precisely because the evidence powerfully
documents gross abuses of power and of detainees.
"This principal is fundamentally anti-democratic. The
American public has a right to see the evidence of crimes
committed in their name."

Introducing a Nigerian Imam and Outstanding Community leader
at the Grassroots leve.
Assalamu alaikum
My name is Yusuf Yakub Arrigasiyyu. I am a student of Islam
and was charged to lead prayers (Salah) in my community
masjid, where we perform our five daily prayers and am thus
called Imam. I once heard my Islamic scholar saying that I
memorized the holy Qur'an by heart.
I lived in Rigasa a suburb in Kaduna city of Kaduna state
Nigeria which has about seven hundred and fifty thousand
people as of 2006 census, with 95% Muslims. I am a public
health practitioner working with the ministry of health
Kaduna state in charge of a Disease control unit of a
development Area.
I had my master's degree in health planning and management
from the University of Maiduguri in Nigeria. I am the Majin
Garin Rigasa (traditional mayor) a title that has historical
connection with Usman Dan Fodio an Islamic reformist in
Nigeria.
I am married with a wife Rabi'a Abdullah the current deputy
president of the Muslim students society of Nigeria sisters
wing Northern states headquarters and blessed with
Najibullah, yusra, swabira, yaqub and Rumaisa. She is a
qualified community health practitioner and currently
studying Islamic law in the famous Ahmad Bello University
Zaria.
As students of Islam we view Da'awa activities as a
responsibility bestowed on us by our creator Allah; we are
therefore engaged in weekly Da'awa activities in our rural
communities and also combining our Da'awa activities with
provision of free medical services for the rural dwellers.
My wife is responsible for coordination of these activities.
We fund our activities within our family. However, friends
and other interested individuals sometimes offer there
assistance in various way to see to the success of the
program.
As many of us know especially in developing countries like
Nigeria, Corruption has eaten deep into the flesh of the
majority of the Nigeria society especially it leadership,
leaving majority of our brothers and sisters in abject
poverty, high illiteracy level, and increases in disease
transmission and many other unfortunate situations.
In order to address these abnormalities, a network of 35
Islamic organizations across Nigeria came together to
establish an organization, Muslim league for accountability
its main objective is to engage Government on accountability
issues. After ten years of its existence, I was recently
made its current executive Director. I hold many positions
in the Muslim students' society MSS of Nigeria at different
level. I was one time an Amir of MSS Kaduna and later
National public relation officer.
We have been organizing series of Islamic programs including
camping programs. In fact Muslim students across Nigeria
this month December will be holding it annual major event,
called Islamic vacation course for Muslim students society,
between 20 t0 28 December 2009 which will bring together
more than 10,000 students from different part of Nigeria
including male and female students to Sokoto state, the seat
of Usman fodio and the sultan to discuss both Global and
national issues as it affect Muslims and Islam in
general.
Finally, I need to clearly states here that my mission in
this life is to contribute within the Sunnah of the prophet
(SAW) in establishing a decent society where the teaching of
our noble prophet Muhammad peace and blessing of Allah be
upon him, will reign above any other system on earth.
