Outreach: Thanks to Jamaat Volunteers for Big Effort on
August 8, 2008 to Spread August 16 Message
Jamaat al-Muslimeen Volunteers reached out to the Muslim
community on August 8, introducing the International Islamic
Conference for Peace and Awareness. This is done in the
knowledge that though most Muslims are too leaderless and
disorganized [and often scared] to attend a conference on
issues of extreme relevance to our times, yet they can be
influenced to be future supporters of the emerging
Islamic movement.
Just about ALL Islamic centers and mosques in Maryland were
covered in this effort.
The most concentrated distributions of Conference literature
were in:
Islamic Center of Laurel, Maryland. [The objection to
distribution was withdrawn by the administration after they
saw the content of the literature.]
Islamic Center of Washington [ISWA]
Masjid Rahma [ISB]. The distribution here alone reached 210
people. We heard complaints that the juma' khutba was
irrelevant to our times, extremely boring and of high
school level.
Masjid Taqwa [out in the countryside.]
Masjid Noor received a bunch of flyers and we hope they will
be distributed.
Masjid Salaam [downtown Baltimore].
Masjid al-Haqq [light distribution]
August 10. In PHILADELPHIA, selective distribution has been
made at various masjids across the city.
On August 10, distributions were made at Islamic restaurants
and shops in the Baltimore area.
In BROOKLYN, New York, on August 8, conference literature
and New Trend articles were distributed at:
Masjid Khalifa [W.D. Group]
Masjid Farooq [Arab immigrants]
Islamic Da'wa Center [Shi'a brothers]
Juma' Khutba in Knoxville, Tennessee: Boycott of
pro-Zionist businesses
August 1. Jamaat al-Muslimeen activist Br. Yusuf gave juma'
khutba at a small masjid in Knoxville. He touched on the
boycott of zionists' businesses and explained how if one
Muslim is sick the whole ummah is sick. The khutba seemed a
success because later most brothers shook the khateeb's hand
and told him they liked what he said. Most of them were
nodding as well when he was speaking. Some told him later to
tone it down because speaking of boycott will
cause trouble.
Study Circle in Chicago: Presentation on Slavery and its
complete condemnation and abolition in Islam
On August 2, 2008 Dr. Kaukab Siddique gave tafseer of
Sura al-Balad [chapter 90] of the Qur'an at a study circle in
Chicago, Illinois.
Dr. Siddique said that sura al-Balad is a very early Sura and
it indicates that right in the beginning the Qur'an commanded
an end to slavery as part of the Islamic faith. He said that
slavery is an extreme form of shirk [associationism] for
which there is no place in Islam.
When Islam became a state and a poltical community in
Madinah, specific sums of money were set aside in the
treasury for freeing slaves. [See the Qur'an 2:177]
The Prophet, pbuh, taught that the prayer of one who
enslaves a free being is not accepted by Allah. This is in
Sahih Bukhari
but our scholars hide the fact.
Maulana Maudoodi has shown that a distinct line must be drawn
between the era of the Rightly Guided Caliphate [when Islam
in its totality was implemented] and Monarchy, when the Kings
started fragmenting Islam.
Dr. Siddique said: his own research shows that scholars
supporting kings started interpreting the Qur'an in a way to
give the idea that slavery in a "decent" form is allowed in
Islam. He gave examples to show how this heresy was sneaked
into Islam.
From Hadith, Dr. Siddique showed that the Prophet, pbuh,
was the greatest liberator of women. The Prophet, pbuh,
took specific steps to end the taking of female prisoners as
sexual slaves which was a custom prevalent among the Roman
Christians, the Persians and the Arabs. Again, later scholars
tried to twist the Qur'an to allow their Muslim kings to
indulge in sexual exploitation of female captives.
The Sunnah of the Prophet, pbuh, is that he had no slaves,
male or female, and this fact is clearly authenticated in
Sahih of Bukhari. The Way of the Prophet, pbuh, is decisive
in understanding the Qur'an, Dr. Siddique said.
He concluded with discussion of the forms of slavery, mental
and psychological, which exist in our own times.
Earlier on AUGUST 1, Dr. Siddique was permitted to give
literature on the August 16 International Islamic Conference
to a juma' gathering in downtown Chicago.

Dr. Al-Arian's Trial Postponed Indefinitely
Prosecution emotionally accuses defense of carrying out
personal attacks
August 9, 2008 / Alexandria, VA -
On Friday, in a pre-trial hearing which witnessed one of the
single most dramatic clashes between Dr. Sami Al-Arian's
attorneys and the government, a federal judge unexpectedly
postponed Dr. Al-Arian's trial on criminal contempt. The
trial, originally scheduled for this upcoming Wednesday
(August 13th), will now be delayed until the Supreme Court
addresses the appeal submitted by Dr. Al-Arian's attorneys on
the lawfulness of the federal subpoena which led to the
contempt charges, a process which could take
several months
War News:
Israel Emboldened Georgia to attack South Ossetia
[New Trend has received information which indicates that
Israel was behind the Georgian attack on South Ossetia in
which large numbers of civilians and Russian peacemakers were
killed. The Russians have counterattacked with great ferocity
and Georgia is in serious trouble. Here is a bragging report
from an Israeli paper which shows why the Georgians felt
so confident.].
Jewish Georgian minister: Thanks to Israeli training, we're
fending off Russia
By Haaretz Service
Jewish Georgian Minister Temur Yakobshvili on Sunday praised
the Israel Defense Forces for its role in training Georgian
troops and said Israel should be proud of its military might,
in an interview with Army Radio.
"Israel should be proud of its military which trained
Georgian soldiers," Yakobashvili told Army Radio in Hebrew,
referring to a private Israeli group Georgia had hired.
Yakobashvili, Georgia's minister of reintegration, added that
this training provided Georgia with the know-how needed to
defend itself against Russian forces in the clashes which
erupted last last week in the separatist region of
South Ossetia.
Yakobashvili said that a small group of Georgian soldiers had
able to wipe out an entire Russian military division due to
this training.
"We killed 60 Russian soldiers just yesterday," said
Yakobashvili. "The Russians have lost more than 50 tanks, and
we have shot down 11 of their planes. They have enormous
damage in terms of manpower,"
BBC Report: August 11, 2008 [The tragic suffering of Dr. Afia
Siddiqui ignored by U.S. media] {Taken to court in a
wheel chair.}
A US judge ordered that Pakistani scientist accused of
links to the al-Qaeda leadership should receive urgent
medical care.
Aafia Siddiqui has been charged with attempting to kill US
troops sent to arrest her in Afghanistan last month. She
appeared at a bail hearing in New York in a wheelchair and
looking frail.
Ms Siddiqui was reported to have been shot during the arrest
and her lawyers say she has not received medical attention
while in custody.
One of her lawyers, Elizabeth Fink, told the judge that Ms
Siddiqui, 36, should be taken out of custody and to
a hospital.
"She's been here for one week and hasn't seen a doctor, even
though they know she has been shot," said Ms Fink.
Another lawyer for Ms Siddiqui, Elaine Whitfield Sharp, said
the defendant had been left with large stitches on her torso
following surgery and could be suffering from
internal bleeding.
"She is complaining of abdominal pain. She understands she
lost part of an intestine," said Ms Whitfield Sharp.
US Magistrate Judge Henry Pitman granted the request for
medical attention and said Ms Siddiqui should be seen by
doctors within 24 hours.
Prosecutor Christopher LaVigne said that the situation was
"complicated" and that Ms Siddiqui should be considered a
"high-security risk" because of her alleged attack on
US personnel.
Ms Fink responded by telling the court: "This is a person who
can't walk".
Ms Siddiqui faces 20 years in prison if convicted, but her
lawyers have dismissed the charges as ridiculous.
Rights groups say she has spent the last five years in secret
US jails.
Torture claims
The US say Ms Siddiqui was married to a nephew of the man
accused of masterminding the 9/11 attacks, Khalid
Sheikh Mohammed.
The mother-of-three, an ex-student at the elite Massachusetts
Institute of Technology (MIT), did not enter a plea at a
preliminary hearing on 5 August.
The FBI says Ms Siddiqui was apprehended on 17 July in the
Afghan province of Ghazni by local security forces who
allegedly found documents including recipes for explosives
and chemical weapons in her handbag.
US army officers and FBI agents visited her in detention on
18 July, they say, alleging she seized a US officer's M-4
rifle from behind a screen before opening fire on
the Americans.
Aafia Siddiqui's sister, Fauzia, calls for a fair trial
She missed, and was reportedly overpowered after being shot
in the chest by US servicemen.
Ms Whitfield Sharp has dismissed the charges as "a tall
story" and has said claims by the US that her client had been
in hiding for several years were "not credible".
According to her family, Ms Siddiqui has not been seen since
returning to Pakistan on a visit from the US in 2003.
They say she is "innocent of any crime" and deny that she has
connections to al-Qaeda.
Her sister, Fauzia Siddiqui, claimed in news conference last
week that Ms Siddiqui had been tortured for five years before
being found by US troops.
A new date for the preliminary hearing has been set for
3 September.
Pakistan's foreign ministry has said they will continue to
seek consular access to Ms Siddiqui and are "committed to
bringing back all Pakistani detainees".
