Also, we have had to reject, from several readers, photos of Benazir Bhutto's son, drunk and almost being carried by two floozies. These are too demeaning for someone who wants to be the leader of Pakistan. Earlier, we refused to post photos of General Musharraf with his two doggies and his king-like bedroom, etc. These are much too obvious. In our world, good people are the exceptions and should be publicized and not vice versa.

CIA Agrees with Musharraf that al-Qaidah killed Benazir: Preparing Direct Intervention in Pakistan

January 18: In a 45-minute interview with the Washington Post, CIA Director Michael Hayden declared that al-Qaidah and Islamic militant leader Baitullah Mehsud are responsible for the murder of Benazir Bhutto. He did not provide any verifiable evidence. The Post noted that other U.S. government officials do not agree with Hayden and one official clearly stated that there is no "incontrovertible" evidence in this matter.

As if to carry on the CIA story, on January 19, the Musharraf regime claimed that it had arrested a "15 year old" in the city of Dera Ismail Khan as Bhutto's killer and sent by Baitullah Mehsud. However this story was so unconvincing that Fox News producer Sib Kafee reporting from Pakistan stated that Mehsud had denied any connection with the 15-year old and the Fox producer commented that the Islamic militants usually take credit when they carry out a successful operation.

[New Trend's analysis has been that the U.S. is preparing the way for direct military intervention in Pakistan by claiming that the murder was done by the militants and that they are becoming too strong.]

RED MOSQUE LEADER SHIFTED to NOTORIOUS PRISON

The Musharraf regime has moved the surviving leader of the Lal Masjid [Red Mosque], Maulana Abdul Aziz to a notorious prison, thus violating the ruling of the Supreme Court of Pakistan which restricted him to a Rest House. The new leadership of the Red Mosque has issued this statement:

"Molana Abdul Aziz sahib has been shifted to Adyaala Jail, Rawalpindi like his father Molana Abdullah Shaheed once was. In Lal masjid after Juma prayer, his nephew Molana Amir Siddique said that the Government has shifted Molana to Adyaala jail with cold floor and without having any facility. He further warned the government to shift back Molana to Rest House immediately. He said "If Government does not obey supreme court's ruling then Lal masjid is not bound to do so either. They are ready for every sacrifice." May Allah Help Islam."

Such an important development just took place [January 10] in the relationship between the USA and Pakistan that a born Jew, a Zionist Senator, visits Pakistan and every where in Pakistan it is quiet. CANADA'S SHAME: Canadian Muslim Undergoing Endless Oppression: Four Years in Cell While Canada cooks "evidence"

Facts about Momin Khawaja:

(1) Age 28 years , born in Ottawa
(2) graduate in Computer Science, Ottawa, and High school from Ottawa with medal in Mathematics across Ontario high secondary school exam system
(3) lived with parents and studied in Saudi Arabia
(4) Hafiz of Al-Qur'an
(5) worked as weekend volunteer teacher at the local masjid in Canada and taught Islamic education to community children
(6) Detained in Ottawa on March 29, 2004 under suspicion of "terrorism" involvement in UK March 2004 cases of other youngsters whose cases have been decided.
(7) Not charged in UK but in Canada with 2 counts of conspiracy of involvement in UK cases. Subsequently, after two years, the Government was supposed to release according to the law but the two charges in 2006 were expanded into 7 charges
(8) twice bail was refused at the superior court

Points of Innocence

(9) Momin has no criminal record nor involvement in any organizations
(10) At the time of detention (age 24), he was working with a contractor as a computer specialist for the Canadian Foreign Affairs with full security clearance
(11) traveled to UK for matrimonial purposes where his grandparents and several other close family members reside, and to Pakistan : other family members live there
(12) the prosecution allege, he was in touch with some of those arrested in London and were planning to make bomb, and that is not true. Momin has no such background as he is a computer scientist.
(13) Accusations applied were the same as against his father who was teaching in Saudi Arabia at the time (Mar 2004), and was detained at the behest of the Government of Canada on the same written charges which later on the Canadian government denied.

(14) In March 2004, Momin's parents and brothers/sister were also arrested and later on released on suspicion of "bomb making" but no evidence was found from the residence. Since then, the whole family has remained under Canadian intelligence surveillance and their names appear in the US No Fly List.

(15) Until this day, time killing exercise has been utilized by the government and no tangible evidence was ever produced in the preliminary hearings at the courts.
(16) Momin should be released as he is being punished without being guilty of any crime for the last 4 years. This prolonged detention has had severe impact on his health and well being.
(17) After almost 4 years, now the prosecution wants to go for a secret trial and have made it clear that some of the so called manufactured evidence against Momin will not be disclosed to the defense lawyer on grounds of national security and relationships with foreign governments. In conventional wisdom, it means, the whole case is based on political factors and not on criminal issues.
(18) According to the defense lawyer, Lawrence Greenspon, if the prosecution hides the so called concrete evidence and does not make it available in a public court, Momin will never get justice in legal proceedings. On this issue, he is planning to go to the Supreme Court of Canada.

New Book Details Mass Killings and Brutal Mistreatment of Germans at the End of World War Two

Germany's defeat in May 1945, and the end of World War II in Europe, did not bring an end to death and suffering for the vanquished German people. Instead the victorious Allies ushered in a horrible new era that, in many ways, was worse than the destruction wrought by war.
In a sobering and courageous new book, After the Reich: The Brutal History of Allied Occupation, British historian Giles MacDonogh details how the ruined and prostrate Reich (including Austria) was systematically raped and robbed, and how many Germans who survived the war were either killed in cold blood or deliberately left to die of disease, cold, malnutrition or starvation.
Many people take the view that, given the wartime misdeeds of the Nazis, some degree of vengeful violence against the defeated Germans was inevitable and perhaps justified. A common response to reports of Allied atrocities is to say that the Germans "deserved what they got." But as MacDonogh establishes, the appalling cruelties inflicted on the totally prostrate German people went far beyond that.
His best estimate is that some three million Germans, military and civilians, died unnecessarily after the official end of hostilities.
A million of these were men who were being held as prisoners of war, most of whom died in Soviet captivity. (Of the 90,000 Germans who surrendered at Stalingrad, for example, only 5,000 ever returned to their homeland.) Less well known is the story of the many thousands of German prisoners who died in American and British captivity, most infamously in horrid holding camps along the Rhine river, with no shelter and very little food. Others, more fortunate, toiled as slave labor in Allied countries, often for years.
Most of the two million German civilians who perished after the end of the war were women, children and elderly -- victims of disease, cold, hunger, suicide, and mass murder.
Apart from the wide-scale rape of millions of German girls and women in the Soviet occupation zones, perhaps the most shocking outrage recorded by MacDonogh is the slaughter of a quarter of a million Sudeten Germans by their vengeful Czech compatriots. The wretched survivors of this ethnic cleansing were pitched across the border, never to return to their homes. There were similar scenes of death and dispossession in Pomerania, Silesia and East Prussia as the age-old German communities of those provinces were likewise brutally expunged.
We are ceaselessly reminded of the Third Reich's wartime concentration camps. But few Americans are aware that such infamous camps as Dachau, Buchenwald, Sachsenhausen and Auschwitz stayed in business after the end of the war, only now packed with German captives, many of whom perished miserably.
The vengeful plan by US Treasury Secretary Henry Morgenthau to turn defeated Germany into an impoverished "pastoral" country, stripped of modern industry, is recounted by MacDonogh, as well as other genocidal schemes to starve, sterilize or deport the population of what was left of the bombed-out cities.
It wasn't an awakening of humanitarian concern that prompted a change in American and British attitudes toward the defeated Germans. The shift in postwar policy was based on fear of Soviet Russian expansion, and prompted a calculated appeal to the German public to support the new anti-Soviet stance of the US and Britain.
MacDonogh's important book is an antidote to the simplistic but enduring propaganda portrait of World War II as a clash between Good and Evil, and debunks the widely accepted image of benevolent Allied treatment of defeated Germany.
This 615-page volume is much more than a gruesome chronicle of death and human suffering. Enhanced with moving anecdotes, it also provides historical context and perspective. It is probably the best work available in English on this shameful chapter of twentieth century history.

To our Sisters and Brothers in Kenya,

Your sisters and brothers of the Malcolm X Grassroots Movement (MXGM) are deeply disturbed and saddened by the post-election violence and displacement we have witnessed via television and the world-wide-web. While we are keen to distrust the distortions and lies of the capitalist dominated media based on our own experiences, it is painfully apparent that the peoples of Kenya have reached a critical crossroads in the development of the Kenyan state and its ability to advance fundamental social, political, cultural, and economic human rights.

Given the burdens of exploitation and oppression we collectively bear as Afrikan peoples as a result of colonialism, imperialism, white supremacy and patriarchy we wish to implore all the peoples and parties of Kenya, for the sake of national stability and Pan-Afrikan unity, to seek non-violent means of resolution when and wherever possible to resolve our internal antagonisms and contradictions. We believe the current crisis to be no exception. We strongly encourage all the parties and progressive community forces in Kenya to collectively create a process and program of reconciliation that interrogates and structurally addresses the underlying causes of the violence currently eroding society, namely the growing impoverishment and resource scarcity created in large part by the debts of the state and the IMF and World Bank privatization stipulations to service it.

The Malcolm X Grassroots Movement stands with all of the progressive forces in Kenya seeking a long-term solution to the crises of the Kenyan state and society. It is our position that the root cause of the crisis in Kenya and Afrika as a whole is imperialism, particularly US imperialism and its neo-liberal policies that aim to keep Afrika and Afrikan peoples in a subjugated and exploitable position. We applaud the expansion of all the political and civil society forces resisting neo-liberalism and imperialism and demanding full political democracy, economic democracy, debt relief, reparations, women's rights, food security, ecological justice, indigenous rights, and the end to US military expansion and Africom. We encourage these and other progressive forces to unite in the face of this crisis and put forth a genuine program for the transformation of the Kenyan state, economy, and civil society that will privilege human needs over the unending quest for profit.

About the Malcolm X Grassroots Movement

The Malcolm X Grassroots Movement is an organization of Afrikans in America/New Afrikans* whose mission is to defend the human rights of our people and promote self-determination in our community. 5. We demand the release of activists who have been imprisoned because of their commitment in seeking human rights and liberation for our people. These brothers and sisters are Political Prisoners and should be recognized as such.

6. We actively struggle to end sexist oppression. We oppose any form of oppression that limits women from reaching their fullest potential, as manifested in our cultural, economic, political and social institutions, practices and beliefs. We actively oppose those beliefs, ideas, terms, etc. that limit the human worth of women and contribute to violations against women.

*A New Afrikan is a person of African descent, particularly those historically enslaved and colonized in the Southeastern portion of the North American continent, that presently live under the colonial subjugation of the United States government. New Afrikan is the connotation of the national identity of this Afrikan people which recognizes their political aspirations for self-determination and independence.
