Famous Pakistani scholar of Islam, Maulana Taqi Usmani,
shreds ISNA's claim that Eid al-Adha should be linked to
Hajj. Devastating though polite!

LATEST NEWS: Somalia going back to Islam: December 12:
The clique installed in Mogadishu by the U.S./Ethiopian
occupation forces admitted that it has lost control of 80% of
Somalia and the Islamic "insurgency" could deliver an attack
on Mogadishu itself. On December 13, the Ethiopian occupation
forces launched another massacre by firing mortar shells into
a defenseless market place in the city. Scores were killed
and wounded. [Note that the "holocaust in Darfur" people are
very quiet about the mass suffering of the Somali people.]

TOP TEN IDIOTS of the MUSLIM WORLD for the year 2007
As the year draws to a close, New Trend's Think Tank has
projected a list of the top ten idiots of the Muslim world.
For inclusion in this list, one had to be a prominent leader
of a country who is entirely at the service of the enemies of
Islam and does not even pretend to be a well wisher of his
own people or is involved in activities detrimental to Islam
and is oblivious of the rights of the Muslim ummah. Most of
the choices were easy but when it came to the USA, the choice
was difficult because there are simply too many idiots
serving the oppressors here. One American choice was easy but
number ten was selected because he is the only Muslim who
thinks that the authenticity of the Qur'an itself will be in
doubt if Muslims don't accept the Holocaust [Holohoax] story.
This goes beyond those who have been honoring Rabbis and
visiting the Synagogues supporting the terrorist entity known
as Israel.
1. Mahmoud Abbas [Palestinian slow thinker working with/for
Israeli terrorist Ehud Olmert].
2. General Musharraf. [Pakistanis detest him but the White
House and Tel Aviv love him].
3. Saad al-Hariri [Lebanese idiot, serving his bosses in a
variety of ways.]
4. The "government" of Iraq installed by the U.S. [Talabani,
al-Maliki, etc.]
5. Zine el Abidine Ben Ali [Tunisia's lack luster tyrant]
claims 94% support for his hellish regime which has made the
practice of Islam itself a crime.
6. Hosni Mubarak, the Pharaoh of Egypt, based on billions of
U.S. dollars, protected by Mossad and CIA.
7. Abdullah of Jordan, a playboy whose mercenaries defend
Israel's eastern frontier. His father and grandfather too
supported Israel. His father gave up Jerusalem to the
Israelis almost without the semblance of a fight.
8. Karzai of Kabul, a comical figure who doesn't trust any
Afghan. As the Taliban advance, slowly but surely, he is
considering refuge in Baltimore [Maryland] where his family
owns a restaurant with a liquor store in it.
9. Bush, though reviled by most Americans, still does not
realize that he has failed most miserably and has made
America the laughingstock of the world.
10. Hamza Yusuf. This was a difficult choice because there
are countless idiots like him. He told a Jewish publication
that the story of the "Holocaust" is so well authenticated
that if one were to deny the H, one would have to deny the
Qur'an itself! Even CAIR, "Imam" Magid, Zaid Shakir, Qazwini
and Muzammil can't top that! Yusuf is very upset that Muslims
protested the cartoons of the Prophet, pbuh, coming out of
Denmark and Germany

Major Terrorism Trial Case in Miami Flops: The 7 were poor
and black: Hence easy targets
December 13, 2007. A Haitian prisoner, Lemorin, whom the Bush
administration claimed was planning to blow up the Sears
building Chicago was acquitted. A mistrial was declared in
the case of the remaining six. How important was this case
can be gathered from this comment in the Miami Herald of
December 14:
"The group was arrested in June 2006 amid much fanfare by the
Bush administration, which described the defendants as being
as ''dangerous'' as al Qaeda -- despite evidence showing they
had no terrorism blueprints or weapons of mass destruction.
The FBI had declared the original indictment "yet another
important victory in the war on terrorism.' "
The 7 were infiltrated by a "Muslim" FBI agent who steered
them towards statements which could be used to accuse them of
terrorism. The fake case against the 7 is a good example of
the fraudulent use of state power in America to stir up fears
of "terrorism."
Readers might remember that CAIR took a very racist attitude
towards the 7, trying to prove that they are not Muslims,
rather than focusing on the injustice being done to them.
[Readers can now search the New Trend web site: Go to the
site, then go to LINKS, click on webmaster, then use the
search engine to look up this case in June 2006. You'll be
amazed at the accuracy of our analysis.]
Note: The corrupt U.S. regime does not give up easily. It is
holding on to the 7 and will probably retry them.
. Haila Gabr: Why is she in a Men's Prison
Reader Br. Sayf [from New Jersey] wants to know why Sis.
Haila Gabr, the Yemeni teenager who killed her rapist, is in
a men's prison. Here is the answer we got from our
contact person.
salaam alaikum, It is a men's prison but they use it
temporarily for women when they get in trouble or are
attacked etc and they are now using it regularly and it is
my understanding from a friend who was there that Haila
prefers it because the men's prison has better
services. Eileen

Eid on December 21: What Muslims don't know Can Hurt Them
December 14: During his juma' khutba at Masjid Jamaat
al-Muslimeen, Dr. Kaukab Siddique urged Muslims to study the
Qur'an and Hadith so that they are not fooled by
"misleaders." A masjid with a large crowd does not mean that
they are on the right path. Check this out at the expensive
masjids which have misleaders collaborating with regimes:
-
They don't know that Prophet Muhammad, pbuh, after Hijra to
Madina, went for Hajj only TWICE. He used to do Eid al-Adha
regularly and NEVER linked it to Hajj.
-
They don't know that the Qur'an links all Islamic events to
the sighting of Ahilla [the crescents], not to any
human events however holy.
-
They don't know that the FOUNDER of Makka was an African
woman, Hajira, r.a, who was guided by Jibreel himself to the
miracle of Zam Zam which still exists. [See text in
Sahih Bukhari
.] [They bring back Zam Zam water without blessing
Hajira, r.a.]
-
They don't know that the Qur'an has sanctified the struggle
of this woman ALL ALONE by saying that the hills of Safa and
Marwa [where she struggled] are the Signs of Allah. Prophet
Muhammad, pbuh, himself walked in the footsteps of this great
African woman.
-
They don't know that these misleaders who are calling for
unity on Hajj are collaborators of the government and have
NEVER called for unity on issues which concern the entire
UMMAH, such as Iraq, Afghanistan, the Red Mosque/Jamia Hafsa,
Palestine, Sudan, Somalia. In fact now they are openly
talking about the fact they have recognized Israel under the
fancy title of the "two state solution."
-
They don't realize that unless they study Islam, their
condition will become like that of Timbuktu, where the people
cannot read the invaluable books locked away in their
mosques. At one time Mansa Musa distributed gold on his way
from Timbuktu all the way to Hajj: ordinary people in
Timbuktu had libraries of a thousand books. Now there is a
very low literacy rate and sand in the streets [as our sister
Karen witnessed]. That can happen to a nation which despises
its Ulema-e-Haqq.
Attacking Islam in the Guise of Attacking Osama bin Laden:
What are Maryati & Hathout Up to: Inviting Islam-Hater
Fawaz Gerges
by Kaukab Siddique, Ph.D
Associate Professor of English and Mass Communication
MPAC announced that it has invited a professor named Fawaz
Gerges as honored guest speaker to its December 15
conference. MPAC is the west coast equivalent of CAIR in its
attitude towards the American power structure. CAIR prides
itself on inviting the friends of Israel, Rabbis and such, to
its "Islamic" "meet me in the Hilton" confabalutions. Looks
like MPAC decided to outdo CAIR by inviting Fawaz Gerges, an
anti-Islam secularist mediocrity who is often trotted out by
the Zionist media to buttress their absurd attempts to
understand the upsurge of Islam in the Middle East. Gerges,
a "featherhead" in Islamic learning claims that "jihadists"
are "fringe elements" in the Muslim world.
As proof of Gerges' "wisdom," MPAC attached his article on
Osama bin Laden for our edification. [See text below.] It's
mere fluff, the attempt of a shallow mind to "analyze" a
message from Osama bin Laden. Gerges barely attempts to
conceal the fact that this is an attack on Islam, not
on Osama.
-
Look at Gerges main point: "... this imagined ummah..." In
other words, for Gerges, the Ummah of Islam does not exist.
He is denying the Qur'an. He is rejecting the teachings of
Muhammad Mustafa, pbuh. He is denying the existence of
Islamic resurgence. He is denying Al-Banna, Syed Qutb, Iqbal,
Maudoodi, Omar 'Abdel Rahman, Khomeini; he is denying that
Islam is a reality.
-
That is the core of Gerges' message, but it is hidden within
the shell of his colonized mind. Here it is in its complete
form disguised in a jab at Osama "... how the interests of
this imagined ummah can override those of separate nation
states and special groups." Thus for Gerges the colonial
imposition is more important than the Islamic reality. What
moral or legal justification accords the "Arab nations" and
"African states" created by the European powers a superior
position to that of the ummah?
-
Israel, of course, is one of those "special groups." It won't
be a surprise to know that the negation of the Islamic ummah
is essential for the survival of Israel.
-
Gerges' mental activity does not go far. Most of his diatribe
is aimed at the claim that Osama is failing and isolated
because he admitted to mistakes in Iraq. Gerges does not seem
to realize that admission of mistakes is a sign of moral
strength, not of anxiety. It is quite common for astute
leaders to teach, correct and re-direct their people in the
battlefield. Gerges knows little of Islam, otherwise he would
know that in the Qur'an itself, we have an analysis of the
battle of Uhud, in which the Muslims suffered heavy losses
owing to internal weaknesses. Osama thus has a model for
self-criticism which is rooted directly in authentic Islam.
-
Much of what Gerges reads into Osama's critique has nothing
to do with the facts on the ground in Iraq. Most of
al-Qaida-in-Iraq fighters are Iraqis. American generals admit
this. President Bush himself [and Ann Coulter!] have said
that 19,000 Al-Qaida fighters have been killed in Iraq. My
reading shows that most of these were not actual fighters but
"suspected al-Qaida" or Iraqi supporters of al-Qaida. The
total number of fighters from other Muslim countries are
estimated at no more than 5000
-
Gerges claims: "Al Qaeda in Iraq faces growing indignation
from fellow Sunni Iraqis fed up with its indiscriminate
killing of civilians and its Taliban-like religious laws."
Where did he get that from? American military generals have
not been able to show on camera any such "Sunni Iraqis"
speaking against al-Qaida. One prominent tribal family did
join up with the U.S. [probably in return for weapons and
large sums of money] but were quickly decimated by Sunni
Iraqis supporting al-Qaida-in-Iraq.
-
What does he mean by "Taliban-like religious laws?" Does he
mean the laws of the Qur'an prohibiting adultery, rape and
banditry on pain of death? Would it be too much to ask Gerges
to be honest and attack Islam directly. Does he mean laws
against liquor, night clubs and prostitution? Why blame the
Taliban. Those are laws from Allah Almighty himself.
-
About Shia-Sunni conflict, Gerges is contradicting his own
line of thought. If Al-Qaida is now fighting Sunni sheikhs
allied to the U.S., why should we not presume that al-Qaida
was previously fighting Shi'ites supporting the U.S., not
because they are Shi'ites, but because of their choice
of allegiance.
-
Gerges does not seem to realize that when we make up stories
about our enemy, the only people we are misleading are our
own audiences. Osama "even" invokes the Prophet, pbuh! Are
you serious!
-
Mr. Gerges certainly has not done his reading. The speeches
and messages of Osama bin Laden are now available, translated
and compiled by a professor at Duke University. There is
certainly no excuse for Gerges' ignorance.
Osama bin Laden's growing anxiety
He's struggling to direct fewer and fewer followers.
By Fawaz A. Gerges
from the October 26, 2007 edition [Christian Science Monitor]
Bronxville, N.Y. - In yet another sign of trouble for Al
Qaeda, Osama bin Laden publicly conceded that his like-minded
militants in Iraq "made mistakes." In an audiotape broadcast
by Al Jazeera this week, he sounds deeply anxious about the
survival of Al Qaeda in Iraq – a group that is largely
independent of his own organization but adheres to a similar
ideology. Al Qaeda's top leader appealed to Sunni Arab tribes
and other armed Iraqi Sunni groups to stop fighting Al Qaeda
members and unite against the real enemy – the
US-led coalition.
Al Qaeda in Iraq faces growing indignation from fellow Sunni
Iraqis fed up with its indiscriminate killing of civilians
and its Taliban-like religious laws. In the past year, Sunni
tribes and fighters have risen against Al Qaeda's branch in
Iraq and, working jointly with US troops, killed and expelled
scores of its militants from their neighborhoods,
particularly from Anbar Province. Besieged both internally
and externally, Al Qaeda in Iraq struggles to survive and
absorb these catastrophic military setbacks.
Coming to the rescue of his followers in Iraq, Mr. bin Laden
lays his personal authority and credibility on the line. In
a rare moment of self-criticism, he advises "himself, Muslims
in general, and brothers in Al Qaeda everywhere to avoid
extremism" and put the interests of the ummah (universal
Muslim community) above those of tribe, party, and nation.
True to form, bin Laden stops short of saying exactly who
speaks for the ummah and how the interests of this imagined
ummah can override those of separate nation states and
special groups.
Never before had bin Laden, ambitious and media-savvy, gone
so far in airing Al Qaeda's dirty linen in public. In the
past, he and his second-in-command, Ayman al-Zawahiri, had
privately advised chiefs of Al Qaeda's wing in Iraq against
fueling sectarian war between Sunni and Shiite Muslims and
imposing their extremist ways on Iraqis. But their pleas
didn't fly.
In his latest "message to the people of Iraq," bin Laden's
misgivings reflect the gravity of Al Qaeda's crisis in Iraq
and a belated effort to win over Sunni Arabs opposed to the
militant organization. Stressing unity over the current
division and disarray, he urged Sunni tribes to uphold
their "tradition of resisting" foreign occupation like that
of British colonialists in the last century.
Bin Laden even invoked the prophet Muhammad to drive home his
message of unity and forgiveness: "The prophet peace be upon
him said once: no one is perfect. We all make mistakes and we
should seek forgiveness of these mistakes. Human beings
commit wrongs, and wrongs always lead to conflict and
dispute. Having acknowledged that we have made mistakes ...
[w]e can now seek to rectify these mistakes."
Letter: Re: "Iran Rug Pulled....." Bush Always Knew Iran was
not a threat. [Excerpted from a long letter.]
He claimed WW III was a day away, yet he knew better from his
own intelligence agencies, but sent hot air to scare the
already fearful American people, as he has done repeatedly
since 9/11, when he tricked the US scary cats into believing
the Bogey man is here to eat them up. Gorgeous George Bush is
truly a tricknologist who deserves the Noble Peace Prize for
deception under the constitution.

Letter: Re: Eid on December 21... In search of unity.
As salaam alaikum Br Kaukab,
We should all have Eid the day when the Hajjis return from
Arafa and Muzdulifah, that is global unity. I agree Saudi
messed it up this year, but to have Eid on three separate
days is going too far.

Code Pink Woman - sounds like something mysterious. Code Pink
Woman if exists anywhere, must come out and let the world
know, what, if at all happened. The story seems to be
incomplete aimed at trying to create stir. One can say with
degree of confidence that there is law in Pakistan and

not looking for justice, but for something else. Truth, my

Qurban Chaudhary
Q & A on Teddy Bear in Sudan Story
In the pursuit of trying to bring myself to
some level of enlightenment regarding 'Muslim
Issues' I chose to read the following web page:
http://www.newtrendmag.org/ntma1185.htm
.
From this page I present the following quote:
"Ibish does not seem to know that Islam does not permit the
imaging of the Prophet Muhammad, pbuh, or any Prophet of
Allah, even if it be as a glorious human being. [emphasis
added] There is absolutely no place for any such imaging
in Islam."
If this is truly the case, why are there so many Muslim men
with that name?
Is it not true, in fact, that "Muhammad" (in all it's
variations in spelling) is one of the most popular names
for males
"Spam1" [Writer did not reveal name.]
Editorial Reply: Muslims name their male children Muhammad
because the Prophet, pbuh, allowed them to do so. By so
doing, they hope that the child will walk in the Path of the
Prophet, pbuh, and will reflect the Islamic qualities of
honesty, decency and truthfulness in his behavior. The
naming is not meant to convey that the child is in some
sense the Prophet, pbuh, or an image of the Prophet, pbuh,
or an incarnation of the Prophet, pbuh. That would be
blasphemy. The British teacher in Sudan was either ignorant
of Islamic culture or was trying to make a game out of
religion in the style which is common in the West when she
got the children to name a teddy bear "Muhammad."
War News
PAKISTAN: New Bursts of Fighting as Pakistani forces Come
Under Attack: Taliban Give Rough Justice to 3 Rapists
December 15: A martyrdom operator hit the guard post at the
entrance of the military base in Nowshera. The
explosion was powerful enough to rattle windows for several
miles. The casualty toll is rising as we go to the press. At
least 7 Pakistani troops were killed and 12 wounded so
seriously that they might not survive. The attack is a worry
for Musharraf because Nowshera is located outside the
Frontier areas and is the citadel of the military.
December 13-14: For the first time a martyrdom operator hit a
Pakistani security position in Quetta. The government
is not revealing details of losses. Pak media are reporting
a number of policemen killed and wounded along
with civilians.
December 13: North Waziristan: Islamic militants
attacked a Pakistani military convoy moving from Miranshah
to Razmak. The militants used rocket launchers and
automatic rifles. The Pak military suffered heavy casualties
which could not be verified. The Musharraf regime admitted
that 6 troops were killed and 20 wounded in the attack. The
Pakistanis responded with heavy artillery, mortars and
helicopter gunships driving the mujahideen back. The Pak
government says at least 15 of the Islamic fighters were
killed. The military is facing difficulty in evacuating its
wounded to Bannu by helicopter owing to bad weather.
[The action began after the militants hit a military truck
with a remote mine, injuring 4 troops, thus blocking the
road. The people see the troops as occupation forces.]
The entire area was sealed off by Pak troops after the
militants withdrew into the mountains.
December 12: Swat: Pak helicopter gunships carried out
attacks on Pak Taliban still in Swat [after Maulvi Fazlullah
withdrew into the rugged terrain]. Nawa-e-Waqt reports that
4 Taliban were killed in the attacks, including Aman Ameen
who at one time was accused of an attack on General Musharraf
but was acquitted by the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
December 9: Following a lull in the fighting in Swat,
a martyrdom operator hit a Pakistani check post near a
village in the Kabl area. In the massive explosion,
3 policemen, two paramilitary men, 5 members of a
pro-government political party and two innocent civilians
were killed. A number of policemen were seriously wounded.
[The military administration is very concerned because it
has been claiming that the people of Swat are supporting the
occupation. No one told them of the attacker.] The entire
area has been sealed off by the military.
The military has demolished the home of an Islamist known as
Mullah Nadar ['fearless'] who organized the FM radio used by
Maulvi Fazlullah to rally the people against the military.
Meanwhile a ferocious example of Taliban justice has been
reported by the Urdu newspapers: In September three bandits
killed a man named Qumbar Khan and abducted his daughter
and sister who were subjected to serious crimes. Maulvi
Fazlullah ordered the perpetrators to be tracked down.
Finally they were captured and "tried" by the Taliban. As
the Pakistani forces advances, the Taliban executed the three
rapists [father and two sons]. Their bodies were found in a
wasteland on December 9.
Pakistani military commander Major General Nasir Janjua, in
charge of the occupation of Swat announced that the drive to
crush "extremism" and "militancy" will continue till its last
vestiges are wiped out.
AFGHANISTAN: Musa Qala: Taliban withdraw: B-52s Used
December 15: Taliban carried out a coordinated attack in
Kabul aimed at police headquarters. Pakistani reports that it
was a "suicide" attack turned out to be wrong. The Karzai
regime noticed that this was conventional and well organized.
The Karzai ministry of "information" is trying to hide the
heavy casualties inflicted and claiming that only a handful
of civilians were killed.
December 14: Western sources say that the Taliban have
"overrun" a Karzai police post in rugged southern Afghanistan
killing the seven Karzais defending it. An Australian soldier
fighting for NATO was also reported killed. No details given.
December 10, 2007. Taliban forces which have ruled Musa Qala
since February, withdrew and melted away into the countryside
as British troops guided by Karzai's men advanced. Taliban
spokesman Yousuf Ahmad told media that they decided to leave
to avoid civilian casualties. Five Taliban and two British
troops were killed in the fighting. The media, all over the
U.S. and Britain, claimed victory but New Trend analysts are
skeptical. The British have not been able to show any dead
Taliban or weapons captured which are quite usual in case one
side wins.
Both the Taliban and Karzai and pointed to mounting civilian
casualties owing to high level bombing by the U.S. air force.
The Taliban seem to have been correct about the danger of
high civilian casualties because the U.S. B-52 bombers
started high level bombing on December 7 as the push towards
Musa Qala began. The use of such heavy weapons against a
lightly armed militia is bound to cause serious civilian
losses [as has happened frequently in the last one year].
Pakistani newspapers indicate that at least 44 civilians [or
"suspected Taliban" in NATO language] have been killed in the
bombing of Musa Qala.
The Taliban withdrew with their weapons and in good order.
The tactical battle situation in Helmand province has
not changed.
Only one English language Pakistani newspaper admitted that
B-52s were used on Musa Qala and that too from a British
writer critical of the Gordon Brown government. Here is a
quote from the News International of Karachi:
"From News International, December 13
by Roy Jenkins
The whole Helmand expedition has from the start been a
suicide mission. Since last year, 81 British troops have died
and untold numbers been maimed for life. The United Nations
calculates that violent incidents have risen by 20-30per cent
since the British took over Nato command, with as many as
5,000 local deaths. The policy of using high-altitude bombers
did not cease, despite the pleadings of Afghanistan’s elected
ruler, Hamid Karzai, who knows that every bomb recruits
10 Taliban.
This week Musa Qala was attacked with B52s before the
Americans and British entered what was left of the town. Who
knows how many civilians have died?"
British PM Gordon Brown visited Helmand at the time of the
"victory." It appears to have been a show enacted for him.
Strangling Free Speech in Germany and Austria
David Irving
http://www.fpp.co.uk/docs/Irving/RadDi/2007/070407.html
... The German government has quietly admitted that over the
last twelve months it prosecuted over 18,000 Germans for
offences of "right-wing extremism," of which only a few
hundred involved actual violence: i.e. they prosecuted over
seventeen thousand thought- crimes -- people unwitting
displaying the old swastika emblem, or even worse, National
Socialist ideas, and perhaps even "denying the H."
ISNA'S Eid Al-Adha Evaluated by a Renowned Islamic Scholar
Maulana Mufti M. Taqi Usmani
Responding to the ISNA Fiqh Council's claim, "Element of
place is dominant in Eid al-Adha," Maulana Mufti M. Taqi
Usmani, a renowned scholar of Darul Uloom in Karachi wrote
the following:
I have gone through the article of ISNA and with the utmost
respect for their sentiment for Muslim unity, I am forced to
say that the view expressed in the article (Eid al-Adha on
next day of Arafat) is in total disagreement with the
teachings of Qur'an and Sunnah, and with the Shari'ah
position recognized throughout the centuries. This is an
unprecedented view which has never been adopted by any of the
Muslim jurists during the past 1400 years, and it has a
number of intrinsic defects and anomalies, some of which are
summarized here.
The article admits that the celebration of Eid al-Fitr should
be tied to the sighting of the moon in each country and
should not be linked with the celebration of Eid al-Fitr in
Saudi Arabia. At the same time, however, the article calls
for celebration of Eid al-Adha according to the Saudi
Calendar regardless of the local dates, which means Eid
al-Adha will be celebrated in North America on 8th or 9th of
Zul-Hajjah. It is thus clear that the theory proposed in
ISNA's article is impractical.
The article has laid much emphasis on the concept of unity of
the Muslim Ummah, which no one can deny. At the same time,
however, one must appreciate that unity does not mean that
the entire Muslim Ummah throughout the world should perform
their acts of worship at one and the same time, because it is
physically not possible. It is evident that when people in
Saudi Arabia are performing their Fajr prayers, those in
North America may still have not completed their Isha prayers
of the previous day. Similarly, when Muslims in Los Angeles
offer their Fajr prayers, those in India and Pakistan are
offering their Maghrib or Isha prayer of the same day.
If it is made obligatory on all the Muslims in the world to
offer their acts of worship at one and the same time for the
sake of unity, such unity can never materialize (because of
the time differences). It is, therefore, obvious that
offering one's acts of worship at different times do not
affect the concept of Muslim Unity.
What does Muslim unity mean?
It means that all Muslims should treat each other with
brotherly sympathy and affection and should not spread
disorder and dissension among them. Nor should they invent
new ideas foreign to the teachings of Quran and the Sunnah
which may lead to division and conflict among Muslims.
It is also astonishing that the article views the celebration
of Eid al-Adha on different days as being against the concept
of Ummah while in the matter of celebration of Eid al-Fitr,
this concept is dispensed with. If the celebration of Eid
al-Fitr on different days does not affect the concept of
unity, how can it be said to harm unity in the case of
Eid al-Adha?
It is true that Eid al-Adha falls immediately after the day
of Arafat in Saudi Arabia, but it is not necessary that the
Muslims in every country should follow the same dates in
their respective areas. Hajj, no doubt, is tied with a
particular place but the celebration of Eid al-Adha is not
confined to that place alone. It is celebrated everywhere in
the world and cannot be tied to the Saudi calendar.
The article admits that the celebration of Eid al-Adha in
other countries was never linked with its celebration in
Saudi Arabia throughout the past 14 centuries. This, the
author's claim was because of a lack of communication
facilities. With vastly improved communication today, they
argued that everyone almost anywhere can find out the day of
Hajj, and should celebrate Eid al-Adha based on
Saudi calendar.
There is a clear admission in this argument that it is not
obligatory according to Quran or the Sunnah to celebrate Eid
al-Adha according to Saudi calendar. Had this been so,
Muslims would have tried their best to find the exact date
of Hajj in Saudi Arabia. It is not correct to say that it
was not possible in those days for people living outside
Saudi Arabia to know the exact date of Hajj, because this
date is normally determined on the first night of Zul-Hijjah.
There is a nine day period until which is more than
sufficient to acquire this information. However, no jurists
has ever stressed that such information be collected in order
to celebrate Eid al-Adha according to Saudi dates.
Further, if the argument of the article is accepted and it is
held that the real intention of Qur'an and Sunnah was to link
the celebration of Eid al-Adha with the Saudi dates, as a
mandatory provision for all Muslims in the world, it means
that the Shari'ah has stressed a principle which was not
acceptable for 1300 years. Is it not against the Qur'anic
declaration that Allah does not make a thing mandatory unless
it is practical for the human beings.
If the authors argue that the celebration of Eid al-Adha was
not linked with the dates in Makkah in the past but it has
become a mandatory requirement of the Shari'ah now, then the
question arises, who has abrogated the previous principle and
on what basis? There is no provision in Quran or the Sunnah
which orders the Muslims to celebrate Eid al-Adha according
to their local dates up to a particular time and to link it
with the dates in Makkah thereafter. Whoever considers this
and similar questions arising out of this unprecedented
theory advanced in the article can appreciate its fallacy.
Finally, I would like to inform you that the question of
sighting the moon for each lunar month including Zul-Hijjah
was thoroughly discussed at the annual sessions of the
Islamic Fiqh Academy (held in Jordan, October 11-16, 1986)
attended by more than a hundred outstanding scholars of
Shari'ah. The academy adopted the resolution recommended that
all Muslim countries should determine all the lunar months
including Zul-Hijjah on the same basis for both Eid al-Fitr
as well as Eid al-Adha.
This resolution represents the consensus of Muslim jurists
throughout the world. The proposal contained in the ISNA
article, however, goes totally against this consensus - (see
note below).
Before parting with the subject, I would like to emphasize
that such unprecedented proposals can never advance the cause
of Muslim unity. Rather, they may create a new point of
disunity and dissention among Muslims. Before venturing such
opinions as definite "Fatwa", these should be discussed at
some responsible international forum of contemporary Muslim
jurists like the International Islamic Fiqh Academy
in Jeddah.
