Historic Muslim march in Calcutta, India [See
below
at end.]
Editor's note: My appeal titled OUR BANGLADESH elicited
a number of good responses from Muslim relief agencies. We
have selected one from South Africa and one from Pakistan.
Please scroll down.
Readers who asked for individual contacts in Bangladesh will
be notified in a few days.
The 11 year sentence handed down in a Chicago court to a
devout Muslim, Prof. Abdelhaleem Ashqar, whose only
"crime" is non-cooperation in oppression, should make U.S.
Muslims wake up. The Zionists are out to destroy us. We must
respond with unity and courage.
U.S. Muslims must change their behavior or their future is in
danger. CAIR-ISNA-MAS with their shameful integrationist
policies are leading the ummah into disaster.

A Hidden Treasure
Written by Jocelyn M. Ajami
Photographed by Dick Doughty
In the heart of Jerusalem's Old City, a stone's throw from
the Western Wall and the Dome of the Rock, stands the Khalidi
Library. Located on Tariq Bab al-Silsilah, or Chain Gate
Street, the library might go totally unnoticed by a passerby,
but it is the largest and finest private Palestinian library,
and one of the largest private collections of Islamic
manuscripts in the Arab world.
Housed in a 13th-century Mamluk building that recalls
Jerusalem's medieval grandeur, the Khalidi family collections
were officially organized into a library in 1900 under the
terms of a private family trust, or waqf thurri, established
by Hajj Raghib al-Khalidi, a Palestinian judge who lived from
1866 to 1952. The library contains some 1200 precious
manuscripts: 18 in Persian, 36 in Turkish, the rest in Arabic;
a catalogue, due to appear next year, is being prepared by
Dr. Lawrence I. Conrad of the Wellcome Institute in London.
The library also contains well over 5000 printed volumes not
yet catalogued, and countless documents and letters. In all,
its holdings reveal the concerns and interests of educated
Palestinians during the Mamluk and Ottoman periods, and shed
light on the intellectual heritage of Palestinians in
Jerusalem from medieval times to the present.
SECRET VISIT TO PAKISTAN
American Jew Leader Meets General Musharraf, General
Kayani and Pak Intelligence Services
[The following are excerpts from the American Jewish
publication known as "Forward." Excerpts are permitted for
fair use without profit.]
An Unlikely Visitor Gives Musharraf Support
by Marc Perelman | Wed. Nov 21, 2007
A few days before Deputy Secretary of State John Negroponte
traveled to Islamabad last week to impress upon General
Pervez Musharraf the need to restore democratic rule in
Pakistan, another American envoy quietly landed in the capital
to chat with the Pakistani president and army chief.
With the blessing of Washington, Jack Rosen, chairman of the
American Jewish Congress's Council for World Jewry, traveled
halfway across the globe for a face-to-face meeting with
Musharraf, who he had hailed two years ago as a courageous
leader and driving force in Jewish-Muslim dialogue.
While nearly all major Jewish groups have altogether avoided
the issue of Pakistan, Rosen has offered outspoken support
for the country's embattled president.
"The real choice we face is not between Musharraf and a
return to an effective democratic system, but between
Musharraf and the possible collapse of Pakistan," Rosen wrote
in a letter to the editor appearing in this week's Forward.
Rosen made the trip to Islamabad after consulting with the
State Department and key members of Congress. In addition to
Musharraf, he met with General Ashfaq Kiyani, the deputy chief
of staff who is expected to take over for Musharraf as head
of the army, as well as ministers and intelligence officials.
In his letter to the Forward, he said he also met with
opposition leaders. Rosen declined further comment.
OUR AMERICA:
Latest Police Brutality linked to Racism and Violation of
the Rights of the Poor in Miami
[With thanks to Max Rameau.]
In just 19 days, 4 unarmed Black men died at the hands of one
department: Miami-Dade Police. And they want the right to
carry shotguns.
On Saturday, November 24, 2007, beginning at 4:00PM,
the community will rally for justice and against police abuse
at the Miami-Dade Police Intracoastal Station, located on
Biscayne Blvd. and 156th St. in North Miami. The rally will
follow the funerals of Michael Knight and Frisco Blackwood,
two men shot dead by Miami-Dade Police on November 12.
Virtually anywhere else, the violent deaths of four unarmed
people by one police department would trigger headline news
and federal investigations. However, in 2007's Miami-Dade
County, the deaths have not been tied together by the media
or even elicited any public statements by elected officials,
not even the Black ones. The shocking silence of the elected
officials and the unwillingness of the media to ask questions,
speaks volumes about the state of Black people in this part
of the United States.
However, in a real demonstration of people power, the
Haitian-American and African-American communities, along with
people of good will of every race and nationality, are
joining for a single rally for justice for all victims of
police brutality. This rally might usher in a new day in
communities fighting injustice together, rather
than separately.
Islamic Law and Women
Saudi Arabia Violating Islamic Law: Punishment for Raped
Woman, Welcome for Gen. Musharraf, killer of Jamia
Hafsa Women.
Saudi Arabia's regime is openly flouting the Law [Shar'ia] of
Islam. According to al-Jazeerah, on November 19, 2007, a
Saudi court raised the punishment it had meted out to a woman
who had been raped, from 90 lashes to 200 lashes plus six
months in prison. The prison had complained in public that
she had been unjustly punished while her rapists got light
sentences. Her "crime" was that she was "alone" with a male
who was not related to her.
The Saudis are ignoring Islamic Law [Shar'ia] which is
supposed to be the law of the land. Here it is in
plain language:
-
According to the Hadith of Muhammad, pbuh, a rapist, after
being proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt, must be
sentenced to death and executed in public.
-
The raped woman is to be considered innocent.
-
A woman traveling alone is discouraged for reasons of security
and the restriction applies only if she is traveling for
THREE DAYS AND NIGHTS. It has nothing to do with traveling
in a well ordered society on a daily basis. There are
numerous Hadith which show that Islamic women often traveled
alone. Among these were many of the women who did Hijrah
from Makka to Madinah. Thus the Hadith about not traveling
alone is a recommendation, not a Law.
-
A proof that it is not a Law but only a recommendation is that
there is NO punishment in the Qur'an or the Hadith for a woman
traveling alone.
Now let's go to the second issue:
On November 20, 2007 General Musharraf arrived in Saudi Arabia.
He was given a warm and personal welcome by King Abdullah
himself. (See photo in the Philadelphia Inquirer of November
21, p. A3. The two have their arms around each other.) Before
meeting King Abdullah, Musharraf met for SEVERAL HOURS with
Saudi "security officials." The meeting was secret and
details were not revealed but our analysis is that the
General is alerting Saudi security to cut off the support
between the Islamic people of Arabia and the Islamic people
of Pakistan. The Saudi rulers claim to be "custodians of the
Two Holiest Cities of Islam" but consider these facts:
-
General Musharraf attacked the Red Mosque right in the capital
city of Pakistan known ironically as "Islamabad." This is a
FIRST in the history of Pakistan: a country's army attacking
a mosque in its capital!
-
Musharraf's Commandos, trained by the U.S., blasted their way
into the Islamic women's university, Jamia Hafsa, slaughtering
hundreds of young Islamic women in hijab.
-
The General's troops used phosphorous against the people in
the mosque, burning alive large numbers of worshipers,
including shaheed Abdul Rashid Ghazi's ailing and
elderly mother.
Islamic Law [Shar'ia] does not permit Muslims to show the
slightest respect to or cooperation with a person like
General Musharraf. Before arriving in Riyadh, he suspended
Pakistan's Constitution and cracked down on the Rule of Law,
dismissed the Chief Justice and the entire Supreme Court,
and beat up and arrested several thousand lawyers and
journalists who protested.
When such a misguided person is welcomed and honored by the
Saudi King, there can be little doubt that the Saudis are
openly and brazenly violating Islamic Law, just as they
violated the Shar'ia about rape. [The name of the woman who
is being punished is censored by the Saudis.]
Muslims in America
Prof. Abdelhaleem Ashqar Sentenced to 11 plus Years in
Prison for not Collaborating with Israel-USA Against
Innocent Palestinians
Read this official reporting of the fate of a decent,
non-violent Muslim in a court of American injustice. Then
read New Trend's analysis.
CHICAGO (AP)— November 21, 2007: A former professor accused
of providing money to Hamas terrorists was sentenced Wednesday
to more than 11 years in prison and fined $5,000 for refusing
to testify before a federal grand jury.
Abdelhaleem Ashqar, a former associate professor of business
at Washington's Howard University, showed no emotion as U.S.
District Judge Amy St. Eve imposed the sentence. But several
relatives wept openly in the courtroom.
Ashqar was convicted earlier this year of criminal contempt
and obstruction of justice for refusing to testify before a
grand jury investigating the Palestinian militant movement
Hamas on June 25, 2003. But he was acquitted of taking part
in a racketeering conspiracy aimed at bankrolling the
terrorist group Hamas.
Before being sentenced, Ashqar delivered a nearly two-hour
passionate statement describing the suffering of Palestinian
people under the Israeli occupation and saying he would rather
go to prison than divulge the secrets of Palestinian militants.
"The only option was to become a traitor or collaborator and
that is something that I can't do and will never do as long
as I live," he told the court.
After sentencing him to 135 months in prison, St. Eve ordered
marshals to take Ashqar into custody immediately, saying that
it wasn't clear that he would not flee to avoid serving time.
A co-defendant of Ashqar, Muhammad Salah, was sentenced to 22
months in the same case after being convicted of lying under
oath in a legal document. He also was acquitted
of racketeering.
ANALYSIS by New Trend: Abdelhaleem Ashqar is Innocent
but Refused to become a tool of Zionism.
Facts about Prof. Ashqar's case:
-
He was opposed to Israel. This and this alone was his "crime."
-
He has never broken American law. He never abused the
hospitality America offered him.
-
Accusations of sending funds to Hamas were disproved.
-
When nothing could be proven against him, the puppet
"justice system" wanted him to talk about the Palestinian
community and to help incriminate and trap other Palestinian
opponents of Israel.
-
In the jargon of the American injustice system, this refusal
to become a collaborator is called "criminal contempt" of the
court and [don't laugh!] "obstruction of justice!" This is
how the Zionists hide tyranny behind a facade of
legal terminology.
-
It should be noted that Hamas is NOT an anti-American movement.
It has been labeled "terrorist" purely to please the terrorist
entity known as Israel. Hence any attempt to punish a Muslim
for supporting Hamas is actually an Israeli move.
-
Israel is striking at Muslims through the American
injustice system.
ASHQAR's GREAT SACRIFICE SHOULD BE A RALLYING CRY FOR THE
MUSLIMS of AMERICA:
-
For two hours the professor spoke to the court highlighting
the suffering and sacrifices of the Palestinian people. Only
ONE LINE of his speech was reported in the corporate media.
[See AP report above.]
-
Thanks be to Allah that Ashqar did not claim like Prof.
Al-Arian that he expected the American justice system will
do him good. For all his attempts to extol America, Prof.
Al-Arian is still in prison, even though he
accepted deportation.
-
American power structure's crimes against humanity must not
be forgotten or forgiven. This is a criminal system whose
targets are Islam and Muslims. Remember that one of the
GREATEST SCHOLARS of Islam, Dr. Omar 'Abdel Rahman, is being
held in solitary confinement in an American prison, though
he is blind and diabetic.
-
We must move UNITEDLY to condemn the injustice against Prof.
Ashqar, Imam Jamil, Shaikh Omar, Ahmed Abdel Sattar, Daniel
Maldonado, Masaud Khan, Jose Padilla, Dr. al-Jayyousi,
Abdullah Hasan and ALL innocents held in the American gulag.
This is ONE UMMAH. It is not only a strike against Ashqar.
It is a blow against all of us.
-
No more cooperation with the Zionist Jews! No more cooperation
with the power structure! Anyone who does so must be isolated
as a renegade from the Muslim Ummah! CAIR is at the top of
this list of renegades, unless it asks for forgiveness and
returns to the fold of Islam.
-
Collection of millions of dollars for pro-government "mosques"
and banquets must be stopped. The whole world is a mosque.
[Hadith].The money is badly needed to fight for the rights
of Muslims in America, be it in the courts or in the media.
-
The Muslim world should take note of the great injustices
being done to the Muslims of America. Don't listen to the
puppet "imams" and the "native deens/deals" being sent out
by the State Department.
-
Islam in America is in agony. The oppressors want the entire
community to become agents and snitches. The political
equivalent of Iraq is being carried out against the Muslims
of America.
-
Stand against tyranny with all legal and peaceful means
available. Imam Warith Deen Umar has given a good example of
such resistance.

Cyclone Sidr, a Category 4 cyclone, hit Bangladesh's
south-western coast on Thursday 15 November. Heavy rains
were experienced throughout the country, including the
capital Dhaka. The cyclone hit offshore islands in the Bay
of Bengal at approximately 6:30pm local time and made
landfall across the southern coast from Cox's Bazaar to
Satkhira. The cyclone has affected 3.2 million people and
latest reports from the Government of Bangladesh indicate
that more than 3000 people have died. Thousands are missing
and injured, a number likely to increase substantially to
exceed 10,000.
The greatest need is for food and supplies due to the
destruction of much of the rice crop from the devastating
winds. Shelter is also a great need due to the destruction
of thousands of homes and shelters from high winds, debris
and trees which have fallen on homes. Hundreds of thousands
have been displaced and are in need food, shelter and fresh
water. Cyclone Sidr comes after months of repeated floods
resulting from one of the worst monsoon seasons that
Bangladesh has experienced in years.
Al Imdaad aid consisting of canvas family tents, plastics
tarpaulins, blankets, kitchen sets (UNHCR Approved),
collapsible water jerry cans, etc leaves Dubai today
(20-11-2007) for Bangladesh.
Further medium to long term requirements are as follows:
1. Rebuilding of homes
2. Medicine
3. Sanitation
4. Supply of seeds
5. Rehabilitation
Help us rebuild the shattered lives of the victims of this
disaster by forwarding your contributions to the Al

India's Muslims Speak: 125,000 Strong
Historic March by Muslims in Calcutta Condemns Oppression
in Nandigram and Calls for Expulsion of Islam Hater
Taslima Nasrin
[Thanks to Urdu Times, Mumbai: Excerpt.] [Several other
reports confirm this report.]
Mujtaba Farooq of Jamat-e-Islami, Mumbai, who is stationed at
Kolkata after a visit to Nandigram, told Urdu Times that CMP
workers have been armed with weapons and they are committing
atrocities and violence in the area which compelled 25000
locals to migrate from Nandigram and there is an acute
problem now for their rehabilitation. Mujtaba Farooq declared
that National Organizations like Jamiat-Ulama-e-Hind,
Jamat-e- Islami, Jamaate Ahle Hadith, Milli Council and
Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat have formed a joint platform known
as Milli Unity Parishad to start a movement under its banner
to protest against Nandigram violence. He further told that
for the first time in the history of Kolkata on November 15
more than 1.25 lakh Muslims gathered on the roads to protest
against this barbaric violence which shocked the citizens
of Kolkata.
This gathering discussed about taking action against arrogant
Taslima Nasreen and Rizwanur Rahman's murderers. This was an
obvious warning to the state government to change its
tyrannical attitude otherwise the Milli Unity Parishad will
start road blocks and mass arrest movement and will march
towards Nandigram on November 24. Milli Unity Parishad
condemns the West Bengal government and warns it not to spread
violence for its Vote Bank otherwise there will be no
difference in CPM and communalist Parties.
