PERSONAL: The editor is mourning the passing away of
Dr. Mohamed Awad, a founder member of the Islamic
Society of Baltimore [ISB]. A man of great Islamic sensitivity,
he was one of the very few elite Egyptians who were concerned
about the suffering of the blind Shaikh,
Dr. Omar Abdel Rahman.
He also had the courage to call on the Muslims of Baltimore to
boycott the Jewish Zionist paper the Baltimore Sun
which was very abusive of Muslims. May Allah forgive Br. Awad's
sins and give him al-Jannah. Ameen.
Good stuff on this web site from Dr. Wilmer Leon.
It is now linked to New Trend.

There are some good interviews there, Dilip Hiro, Dr. Clarence
Lusane, Greg Palast. Just click on show schedules and the list
of shows is there.
AFRICA:
June 16-20: Islamic forces which took over
Somalia's capital Mogadishi and drove out the
U.S.-supported war lords have advanced out into most of
the rest of Somalia, welcomed everywhere by the masses.
Two of the warlords have taken refuge in U.S. warships off
the coast. One war lord has repented and accepted Islamic power.
The U.S. is alarmed and immediately called an international
meeting in New York to blunt the Islamic thrust.
More ominously, the U.S.-backed regime in Ethiopia has started
massing large numbers of troops on the Somalia border,
apparently at a signal from the U.S.
SUDAN Draws the Line:
June 19. Omar Beshir, the leader of Islamic Sudan,
has declared that as long as he lives, he will not permit
UN intervention in any area of Sudan. Instead, he thinks
African troops already in Darfur should be reinforced. Most
of the Darfur rebels want peace now. By contrast, the regime in
Chad, which was being used by Israel against Sudan, is
facing ongoing upheaval and can no longer damage Sudan.
NPR PRAISES SALMAN RUSHDIE BUT ....
What Liberal Berkeley did to David Irving
Dear National Public Radio [NPR]
What a quaint story you carried on June 19, 2006 about
the problems an alternative bookstore in Berkeley is
facing. Your reporter was nostalgic about the "historic"
visit to the store by Salman Rushdie and then moralized
about the hole put in the store by, probably,
Muslim "extremists."
Owing to some kind of journalistic amnesia, you forgot
that the leading historian of the Second World War,
David Irving visited Berkeley too. Your "alternate" crowd
of "progressives," Sparatacus League, etc., physically
attacked Irving's meeting, smashed, trashed, destroyed all
that they could and roughed up Irving.
These Berkeley "progressives" and free speech proponents,
created such a threat-laden situation that the police
refused to let Irving hold any more meetings on the plea
that they could not ensure his safety.
So much for "progressive" book stores and Berkeley's
"alternative" crowd!
Sincerely

[We urge Muslims to donate to help the oppressed
Muslims of America. Political prisoners need money for

Starbucks Using Exploited African Labor
As part of our campaign to boycott businesses which support
Israel, the following note is of urgent importance. In a
discussion of RWANDA, NBC mentioned in passing, on May 19,
2006, that "coffee beans for starbucks" are produced by
Rwanda's laborers.
National Shoora Meeting
Inshallah, on June24, the National Shoora, Consultative
Committee, of Jamaat al-Muslimeen will meet in Greensboro,
North Carolina to consider policy decisions about the crisis
facing the Muslims of America.
Delegates have been confirmed from New York, Pennsylvania,
Maryland, North Carolina, Texas and California. Observers
are confirmed from Virginia as well as
Philadelphia, PA and York, PA.
Oppressed Islamic Intellectual Seeks Employment in
Southern Florida: Highly Qualified
June 20, 2006. From an exclusive interview with New Trend
Dr. Kifah al-Jayyousi, Palestinian American was
released on bail about 5 months back. The case against him
is bogus and there is little chance that the government will
be able to smear him with any far fetched claim.
However, Br. Kifah, as Muslims call him, is not permitted to
return to his home in Detroit till the trial is resumed
[which is being put off again and again]. The judge has
restricted him to southern Florida. As a result, his
resources are steadily running out. His family is facing
an economic disaster.
The best help you can give is to find him a job in
southern Florida. He told New Trend:
I appreciate any job referral in the South Florida area
(Fort Lauderdale to Miami) in the project and construction
management arenas. I am able to work in mangerial or
engineering design positions, but I will entertain other
positions, Insha Allah."

AFRICAN-AMERICAN IMAM SPEAKS OUT: Message from Warith Deen Umar
An Islamic Leader Stands firm Against
Government Terrorism and Intimidation
Imam Warith Deen Umar, outstanding Imam and Islamic leader,
has written to New Trend as follows:
"Dear believers and friends of Islam: asalaamu alaikum [peace to you].
Enclosed are copies of three search warrants issued and used to
harass, intimidate and persecute me as a Muslim practitioner of
the religion of Islam. President George W. Bush made the statement,
"Freedom is On The March." What he meant is that the government
is gaining freedom to come after citizens, march into their
homes, disrupt their lives and persecute them with no reprisals
from the citizenry. As you can see this was a fishing expedition.
This isan outrage! Even my well experienced lawyer said "wow!
what is this?" When he asked the opposing government attorney
were their any charges other than the one count of possessing a
legal unregistered rifle in New York City, the answr was,
"...No, we couldn't find any other violation of the laws."
Six NYPD policemen trashed my apartment in New York City after
lying to a judge about their suspicion of me soliciting for
murder???, having explosives, being against Jews,
gays & Lesbians, etc.
Two weeks later, they went to another judge and told the same
story to give them authority along with the FBI, the ATF and
local police [12 in all] to travel 150 miles north to Albany
County to confine my wife and daughters in our home for five
hours while they ramshackled through our residence and
confiscated our personal property and possessions such as
personal papers, files, writings, books, cameras, computers,
etc. They even took our children's computers. No arrests were made!
To this date I have been indicted for one count of possession
of the unregistered weapon. The government has not returned our
belongings and have violated my and my family's civil rights.
Join us in our outrage. Be against this oppression in your
heart if not openly."
[Imam] Warith Deen Umar
We urge Muslims and all good people to support the Imam.

CANADA: by Jamaat al-Muslimeen observer
Bush Clone Silencing Muslims, Encouraging Muslim
Bootlickers & Hypocrites
The silence of fear has descended on the Muslim communities
of Canada. None dare challenge the outrageous charges of
"terrorism" brought against 17 decent, pious Canadian
citizens who have harmed no one. Their "fault" seems to
be that they have Islamic beards and their women wear
burqas and on top of it all, they are "colored."
Prime Minister Harper has made it very clear that he has
already decided that these citizens of Canada are not only
"terrorists" but were out to attack 'our freedom' and
"democracy" itself! It would seem that Bush's clone has
appeared in a form more vicious than that of "Great" Britain's Blair.
The Canadian government invited carefully chosen bootlicker
Muslims to visit the halls of power and to condemn the
accused Muslims. CAIR is playing its usual role of "lick
spittle." Good ol' Gamal Badawi, Shima Khan etc have shown
that when the pressure increases CAIR's "grassroots"
"Movement" rushes to do sujood [prostration] in front
of the White Master.
Tarek Fatah is crowing like a cock on his dung hill,
prostituting himself to the enemies of Islam, doing the
bidding of the master. He is the new star of the
Zionist hate machine.
We urge the Muslims of Canada to unite against the oppressors.
Remember we are ONE UMMAH. If the oppressors hurt one of us,
they are hurting all of us. Understand the basic tactic of
the oppressors: Whenever a case against Muslims is filed,
the government tries immediately to divide the Muslims into
"moderates" and "extremists." Unite, dear Muslims, unite!
Juneteenth
An End to Slavery in Texas: An Important Anniversary
often Forgotten by Americans
by Nadrat Siddique
As-salaam alaikom/Greetings/Hotep!
Juneteenth Greetings!
Juneteenth is a uniquely American holiday, which--unlike Father's Day,
Mother's Day, Valentine's Day, and all the commercial holidays--is rarely
mentioned. There are no Juneteenth sales at Saks Fifth Avenue, nor
fireworks (with rare exceptions) for Juneteenth. Juneteenth is the day
that the last state to accept the Emancipation Proclamation, did so; thus
it may be regarded as the date of the final abolition of slavery. If
Juneteenth were discussed, it might open a national dialogue of the
genocidal beginnings of this country, which the "victors" have attempted
to sweep under the rug. As my sister, the pschologist, has told me many a
time, unaddressed trauma is handed down through the generations. I doubt
anyone in their right mind would claim that the horrors of slavery were
ever addressed. And, she reminds me, not only the perpetrator, but the
victim, is affected by the victimization which has occurred. In other
words, both oppressed and oppressor are diminished by the horrors of
racism.
For an excellent discussion on this, see White Racism (Feagin)
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0415924618/qid=1150772361/sr=2-1/ref=pd_bbs_b_2_1/103-4186749-8261450?s=books&v=glance&n=283155
So, Juneteenth could be a step toward national healing.
On the other hand, even many in the struggle for Afrikan liberation don't
talk very much about Juneteenth, and I often wonder at the reasons for
this. Is it because of lack of awareness? Is it because we are busy at
Carnival or at the beach in Jamaica? Or is it because they regard slavery
as extant--albeit in the formulation of the prison-military-industrial
complex--and thus the holiday as mute?
Many in my own (Indo-Pak) commmunity don't talk about Juneteenth, because
they have not bothered to learn even the most basic of Amerikkkan history,
despite living here for years, and have accepted the Hollywood version of
Black-White relations. But we must awaken, because, in the words of Clyde
Bellecourt, brothers and sisters, you will be the new Indians..."

-Nadrat Siddique
Excerpt from the first link:
On June 19, 1865, Major General Gordon Granger stood on the balcony of
Ashton Villa in Galveston, Texas, and read a special order from President
Abraham Lincoln:
The people of Texas are informed that in accordance with a proclamation
from the Executive of the United States all slaves are free. This
involves an absolute equality of rights and rights of property between
former masters and slaves, and the connection heretofore existing between
them becomes that between employer and free laborer. The freedmen are
advised to remain at their present homes and work for wages. They are
informed that they will not be allowed to collect at military posts, and
they will not be supported in idleness, either there or elsewhere.
Instantly, June 19, or Juneteenth for short, became a day of
celebration and family reunions in Texas.
President Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1,
1863. It seems hard to believe that it took two-and-a-half years for the
news to reach Texas. An old folktale explains that
President Lincoln sent the news from Washington by a Union soldier who
rode all the way on a slow-moving mule. According to some
historians, many slave owners in Texas were aware of the Emancipation
Proclamation but refused to tell their slaves about it.

I believe in life.
And i have seen the death parade
march through the torso of the earth,
sculpting mud bodies in its path.
I have seen the destruction of the daylight,
and seen bloodthirsty maggots
prayed to and saluted.
I have been locked by the lawless.
Handcuffed by the haters.
Gagged by the greedy.
And, if i know any thing at all,
it's that a wall is just a wall
and nothing more at all.
It can be broken down.

Critical Responses to New Trend's Analysis of the
Assassination of Al-Zarqawi
Assalaamu Alaykum,
I don't know how I got on your mailing list, but please take me off.
While the US invasion and occupation are unjust, reprehensible
acts of aggression, supporting people like Zarqawi is unacceptable.
He made a mockery of our religion by twisting Ayahs and Hadis out of
their context and by making the blood of innocent people halal.
In addition, your stereotypical thinking which lumps together all
members of a particular confessional or religious background and
condemns them because of the actions of some is patently
irrational and leads to the kind of actions that perpetuate
violence and injustice. The Muslims will be only be liberated once
we learn to think critically and to adopt tactics and strategies
which weaken the Imperialist forces while building our base of
support. Zarqawi and his ilk did none of that; they played to
sectarian prejudices and have provoked a civil war in the place
of a unified intifadah against the occupation. He has given the
US every excuse it needs to stay while ensuring that opposition
is confined to a minority population and is thus easily dismissed.
Until we get beyond our petty sectarian prejdices, we will never prevail.

Editorial response:
Wa alaikom as-salaam.
Our apologies--we will remove you from the list immediately.
If you choose to respond, please explain:
1) Which ayahs and hadith you believe Z twisted out of context;
2) Why you attribute the civil war to him, rather than to
occupation forces, which have been shown to have a clear link
to the death squads currently operating in Iraq--similar to
death squads operated by the U.S. in El Salvador during the
Salvadoran civil war--inciting sectarian violence.
Peace,
NT Volunteer Staff
More on Al-Zarqawi:
1. Can you tell me if you endorse the killing of Shias
in Mosques on the basis of them being collaborators?
[i.e. use of fiqh concept that makes their blood halal]
2. Can you tell me if collatoral damage is an Islamic concept,
Re: killing of wedding party to get an intelligence officer in Jordan?
Salaam,
Shoaib

PS: Thanks for the informative article about Umm Darda.
It would have been nice if you had put the actual names
of the two people, rather than the name of their eventual offspring.
Chief Editor's comment on both letters:
New Trend's Position on the wars we analyze.
1. New Trend rejects and condemns attacks on all places
of worship. Also, we will never attack or be opposed to
Shi'as or anyone else in their totality. However, our analysis
is meant to put things in context, not as academic
expression of ideals.
2. We proposed years back that the U.S. should pledge
that it will not attack masjids. Such high moral ground
would create certain standards for warfare. Instead we see
that the U.S. violated/destroyed ALL the mosques in Fallujah
and in 5 other Sunni cities.
[See our summary of an American general's report
on the destruction of Tal Afar.]
3. While the U.S. was using WHITE PHOSPHOROUS in Fallujah,
Ali Sistani was cosying up to the U.S. military. No Shia
leader opposed the U.S. violation of hundreds of mosques.
Those are simply the facts. Within that context, many in the
Islamic resistance consider the Shias non-Muslims.
4. We have looked carefully at information on the Amman
attack. There is no evidence that the martyrdom operators
wanted to hit the wedding party. It was collateral damage.
5. We are against war and against violence and for peaceful
change. Our analytical tools find that King Abdullah
of Jordan has closed all doors to peaceful change. He is an
illegitimate ruler, suppresses opposition with brute force
and routinely tortures Islamic people.
6. The Shi'as, most of them, are supporting the U.S. occupation
of Iraq. They also supported the U.S. in Afghanistan. They
follow their leaders blindly, not on the basis of the Qur'an
and Hadith. So if their leader, like Ali Sistani, is working
with the U.S., all his followers support the U.S.
7. To reader Luqman, we should point out that Shias
are not the majority in Iraq. If they were, the U.S.
would have published evidence of such majority before it
carried out the fake "elections" there. The armed mujahideen
are estimated at 15 to 30 thousand. Several million people
would be supporting them for the resistance to survive in
the face of a superpower aided by Shia collaborators.
War News: from our Media Monitor
IRAQ:
The U.S. is mourning the death of two [of 3] U.S. troops
killed in Yousufia allegedly by Al-Qaida. Reports
indicate that the two were decapitated. U.S. media say that
killing of U.S. troops is "terrorism." A Jewish writer,
Podhoretz of the New York Post, said that al-Qaida "is
terrorizing U.S. troops." One report says the new leader
of Al-Qaida in Iraq personally killed the two soldiers.
Two more U.S. troops were killed in Ramadi [June 21]
bringing the U.S. death toll to 2505 with 18,500 wounded.
Baqubah, June 20: The U.S. air force bombed a poultry farm
killing 3 Iraqi children, five Iraqi women and 5 men.
Al-Zarqawi wife and child: Only very brief notice
was taken by the media of the reports that Islamic leader
Abu Mus'ab al-Zarqawi's wife and little child were killed
in the U.S. air strike. His wife was Iraqi. Observers say that
tens of thousands of Iraqi women and children have been killed
by the U.S. occupation forces in Iraq. Neither the UN nor U.S.
media give any coverage to these war crimes.
PALESTINE:
The Israeli air force killed 2 Palestinian children and a
teenager in an air strike in Gaza. [June 20]
The Israeli air force killed 3 Palestinian children and 2
Palestinian women in an air strike on a refugee camp in Gaza. [June 21].
The Palestinians are unable to hit the Israelis owing to lack
of modern weapons.
Hamas, the elected government, is under intense pressure to
accept a 'two state' solution, which means an implicit
recognition of Israel. Hamas is also under pressure from
King Abdullah, Egypt's Hosni Mubarak and the Muslim
Brotherhood [ikhwan] in Egypt [which is working with Mubarak].
Islamic observers say that no one has the right to recognize
Israel. If Hamas does, a new, more radical, Islamic movement
will replace it. The only answer to Israel comes from the
Qur'an itself: "Drive them out from where they drove you out."
AFGHANISTAN:
[The Diane Rayme show announced, June 20, that NATO carried out
340 air strikes on the Taliban. This number is not correct.
Wire services, Fox News as wellas the Baltimore Sun have noted
730 air strikes.]
In latest claims the U.S. says 13 Taliban were killed in an air
strike in Paktika and 5 in Oruzgan. The 10,000 man NATO
juggernaut is now in the Taliban heartland but is unable to
kill any Taliban.
The Taliban blew up a NATO tank near Kandahar, only 2 miles
from the major U.S. air base, killing one Romanian soldier and
wounding 3.
In Farah province, Taliban hit Turkish contractors working for
NATO killing one Turk and 3 of their guards.[Both items,
Fox TV, June 20]
Near Kandahar, the Taliban wiped out an armed convoy of a
brother of a U.S. supporter elected to the Karzai "parliament."
Thirty Karzai supporters, heavily armed, were killed. [Wire services]
